I'm just playing around with stats. Nothing is set in stone. Hopefully soonish (within an alpha or two) the way farming works will be completely different than it is now. -
My feeling is that the maps would need to be very large in order to accommodate "realistic" terrain features.
-
What if we used these kinds of "realistic" maps for a "battle" game mode? Something like Total War multiplayer where players choose their units and upgrades and fight on a battle map (no construction or bases).

[Discussion] Blacksmith

I don't think the game will have "ammo." However, what if the blacksmith researches faster if you garrison some citizen(-soldiers) inside? -
Walls and wall tower actors are oriented the wrong way

A lot of times, a player will just build a stretch of wall and not a complete circuit. In a case like this, how would you determine what is "inside" and what is "outside"? -

I like the canvas campaign map. And I admit that offering 0 A.D. in a Steelbook would be cool too. -

[Discussion] Blacksmith

Town Phase. 200 Wood, maybe. Figured we could keep the siege techs in the Fortress. -
Design Committee Thread here: http://www.wildfireg...showtopic=17311 My thoughts: Some have suggested and I like the idea of adding a Blacksmith structure for most factions. Basically, every faction that only has 1 barracks structure would get the structure (all except Persians, who have a Stables, and Carthaginians, who have multiple Embassies). The technology tree for the Barracks then would focus on Train Time, Health, Speed, and Basic->Advanced->Elite upgrade, while the Blacksmith's tech tree would focus on Weapons (attack) and Armor. I've already prototyped it (with a generic placeholder building model) and I like it a lot. What would be needed are: 1.) A blacksmith building model Hellenic civs (Athenians, Macedonians, Spartans) can share the same model, just with different civ-specific shield props. Celtic civs (Britons, Gauls) can share the same model and props. Iberians can use their current "barracks" model for use as their Blacksmith, while we model a new barracks for them. Romans may need to revamp the barracks a bit, since it looks a lot like a blacksmith, but it won't be too hard. As mentioned above, Persians and Carthaginians wouldn't receive a blacksmith. They already have to build a 2nd structure. 2. A "Blacksmith" structure portrait. A hammer and anvil would look nice. We can reuse the "metalworker" tech portrait for now. 3. Custom "structure complete" and "selection" sound effects. 4. <SpecificName> for each culture's blacksmith. Romans: Armamentarium (means: Armory). Rename barracks to Castra, which is more accurate anyway. Greeks: Khalkeîon. Iberians? Celts? Mauryans? Ptolemies?

Yeah.

I think Lordgood's fortress looks too much like the Persian one, IMHO. I like Enrique's. lol As for the houses, I was thinking 5 pop size (Mauryans) instead of 10 pop (Persians) to help balance out the number of civs who use the different sized houses. But maybe we can see some different ones and make a decision.

Rome 2 Total War Factions

Just have to point out that, of course, once again the Spartans are completely inaccurate for the period... lol Better than in RTW1, though. -
Don't use the Elephant Archer for now. It doesn't have any animations or props (or even a skeleton with prop points). Just have to wait for Zaggy to get on it.
-
Well, the Greek ones aren't ideal either. I'm liking the backgrounds now. I don't think the female looks like a man, but her hair style isn't anything like the Carth females in the game--they generally have black hair and an up-do.
-
maybe the backgrounds could be slightly less busy? I was also thinking a different color for each unit type (slinger, spearman, cavalry swordsman, etc.).

Why do all the shields look like they tossed black ink all over them?
