Each civ gets 2 Super Units. These are much like the "Unique Units" each civ gets in the game Age of Kings. Since the Celts and Hellenes have sub-cultures, each sub-culture also gets two Super Units.

*parries HistoryGuy's Gladius thrust* Pericles, what about the Hellenes do you think will make them special in-game?

lol, me too. -
You should check out Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut. Apparently it put's the original theatrical cut to shame and is what everyone says should have been released in theaters - it would have performed better at the box office.

The emphasis is on the Mediterranean / Roman Empire. The civs are those that have directly involved the Roman Empire from 500BC - 500 AD.

October 1 - The 2337th Anniversary of Gaugamela
Mythos_Ruler replied to Paal_101's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, a measly 1,000 years off. -
It's definately something we've discussed. Not to get your hopes up though. We have certain issues, like security for the engine exe. For example, if we release this dev packet, even with a stripped down engine, could that invite hacks and other security issues down the road even before we launch the game? So, it's not just a matter of slapping together our tools and voila! But again, it's something I support. I'm not sure there has been a final word on the subject yet. Stay tuned!

October 1 - The 2337th Anniversary of Gaugamela

A really sweet battle. Stone's portrayal of it in "Alexander" was nearly SPOT on... even down to the charge of the hypaspists and the oblique line the Macedonians took. The coolest battle scene shot was when Alexander makes the quick left turn. It's like at that moment you knew they were going to win (although we already knew who wins ahead of time). -
Right now we are in the process of finishing the Mediterranean Biome, so most of the screenshots for the next few months will feature Italian / Greek-ish type settings. Once we start to complete those biomes you mentioned we'll start to show those off as well. We have enough assets for a desert or snowy shot, but they won't be representative of the finished look of the game. I think from now on I will try to show you guys screenshots that will be representative of how the game will end up looking.

I agree. And unfortunately, the Mayor of New Orleans boasts that there will be no city planning for the rebuilding of New Orleans! "The Market" will decide! *pukes* -
Hey guys, what Greek units do you think we'll have?

Lets just say, and I am guessing how things will end up when its all said and done, the game will look more like AOM/AOE3 than Rome:Total War. A platoon of Elephants actually trampling through a formation of infantry is something a little out of our scope. The bonuses will be there, but the animations most likely won't. However, I am not an animations guy. And of course, if we can't implement certain features for 0 A.D. Part I (1.0), we can always attempt to implement them for 1.5 or Part II (2.0) or some future update to the game. -
Mod Announcement - For Honour and Glory
Mythos_Ruler replied to Belisarivs's topic in Game Modification
Just dropping in real quick to say these mod announcements and discussions are pretty cool. I really want our site to become a sort of nexus for this type of thing, especially since our game is aimed at modders and the online community. -
Just want to say that dude's arm is looking pretty harsh. Wouldn't his right (exposed) arm look that way instead though?

I like that trailer. I love at the end when 'Alexander' flashes on the screen you hear, "you will always be remembered!" echoing in the background. Nice touch. I remember seeing that trailer and peeing my pants. I couldn't wait to see the movie. Then, I was slightly disappointed because the flick wasn't what I wanted it to be. I suppose I went in with a closed mind in a way. You're right, the piece of music in the trailer is awesome. Unfortunately I have no idea where it's from. It kind of reminds me of the choral piece in the first Lord of the Rings trailers - "Gothic Power" or some such. PS: Paul, look over my comments on the 300 board and let me know if they are true http://imdb.com/title/tt0416449/board/nest/52627572 -
We have quite a few Greek maps planned - all mountainous, some with lots of islands. I think you'll be pleased. We are doing our best to make each map look authentic to the biome or area of the world they represent. We've poored over hundreds of images of Greece, Italy, and all over the Mediterannean in an attempt to replicate these areas accurately. Sometime towards release I might do a few showcases of different kinds of maps.
