  1. Wasn't impressed. The blood and sound effects turn me off big-time.
  2. A video of scenario editing sounds like a very interesting idea. Although, the editor is in an extreme early build at this stage, a video of my (or CheeZy or someone else) building a map would be the kind of video all of us have wanted other companies (like Ensemble Studios) do to show us exactly how user friendly their game is going to be. Not a bad idea for a future video Impeached.
  3. Click to view an uber high resolution screenshot (1600x1200) from the upcoming in-game video release. The final video will be 640x480 in resolution, but we decided to release the high resolution shot for your visual enjoyment. The final video release should occur within a day or two. Thanks to everyone for sticking with us!
  4. I'd think if you could get a computer that at least runs AOE3 on medium settings, then you can run 0 A.D. on high settings.
  5. It's not just the driving distance. Read my whole post.
  6. Minimum requirements are always in flux, as we are still developing the game. Needless to say, the more powerful the computer the better. But to give you an idea, you'll probably need a processor that's 1.4 GHz or faster and at least a Geforce 6 series/Radeon 9 series or higher graphics card to get the game to look close to our screenshots. Although, the game will have options for lower spec computer (no self-shadowing, non-reflective water, etc.) that will allow a computer with a Geforce FX to run the game reasonably well. That's what we're looking at at this stage. Keep in mind, minimum processor speed will probably go up as we implement more high level and low level AI and pathfinding, as those thing eat up processor bandwidth like nothing else.
  7. We've decided to release hereto previously unreleased Roman unit concepts by our own B.W. Keough. This is a thank you to the community for its patience and dedication as the WFG team finishes and polishes a special short gameplay video for release sometime this month. The three concepts are of the Super Infantry Extraordinarii, the Spearman Basic Triarius, and the esteemed hero Marcus Claudius Marcellus. We are working diligently to bring these historic warriors to life and will feature them soon in an upcoming Showcase. Enjoy! And don't forget to leave your comments and suggestions!
  8. The "problem" with America, is that it's almost like its own world rolled into one really big country. We are relatively isolated here across the pond. For generations, there was really no need for Americans to learn about other cultures - other cultures came to us (and still do), then we turn around and export the melting pot back out to the rest of the world. When you're the exporter of culture (for better or worse), there's no need to learn about other cultures. Europe on the other hand, one could drive for 6 hours and cross into 4 different countries. There was/is a need for Europeans to learn about other cultures. Since the beginning of time they have been assailed on all sides by each other and other invading cultures. Americans havent had any of that. Two World Wars started in Europe - not America. It's like Europe is piled up on top of itself - different cultures and regions competing with each other. Again, as diverse as America is, we are a united country, with one melting pot popular culture that binds us. For generations there was no need for the average American to learn about other cultures as has been the necessity in Europe.
  9. Around here an apt averages about $650 USD.
  10. I'm sure I could go to Europe and convince everyone that 1.) George Bush eats unborn babies for breakfast. 2.) There is a McDonalds at every corner 3.) Everyone shops at Wal-Mart for everything 4.) The Salem Witch Trials are still going on 5.) Everyone in my family drives an SUV
  11. If someone in the community makes a 0 AD or Wildfire Games myspace, we kindly ask you to not take the www.myspace/0ad or www.myspace/wildfiregames custom URLs. We'd like to use these in the future.
  12. Looks cool. The mask is sweet. Let's see. $2000 x 140,000 troops (In Iraq) = $280,000,000. Not a bad investment considering 1 B2 Bomber runs $2 Billion.
  13. RSS feed has been discussed. Possibly implemented in future. Others will answer your compiling questions.
  14. Achilles - If you've felt offended by our remarks, then we apologize. Offense was not our intention. What we are giving you are replies that are hard-nosed, for sure, but we are being realistic. I don't feel that we've filled anyone's head with delusions that the game is "almost done" or even that we have a concrete date set for release. Frankly, you should know this. We have been plain that we don't have a concrete release date since the inception of the project. Your comments regarding "information" about the project kind of astounds me as well. No other project has been so open about its progress that I am aware of. No other project can you actually SEE progress that is made each day (revision log) on its main web portal ( www.wildfiregames.com/0ad )! We post regular screenshots of our progress. We post showcases regarding the design of the game. We've posted interviews that give open and frank answers. We've posted music tracks and videos. The game is making progress and we let you guys know that monthly or even weekly. I just don't know what kind of information will satisfy you and others. All I can say is what we've already told you. You keep asking the same questions which naturally beget the same answers. You're obviously a passionate fellow. If you have any modding skills, I implore you to fill out an application to join the team. Please do not take offense to direct and honest answers. We dont know when the game will be completed, only that we are reaching Alpha (playable 2 player with 2 full civs). Soon we'll be releasing a gameplay video that I think you'll enjoy. In the meantime, check out the new items on our main page, the revision log, and ask some new questions on the forum for some new answers. Stick with us, bud.
  15. Achilles_Knee - while we appreciate your stance, I have to say we've given our fans more than simply "rumors" for over 2 years now. We've released dozens of quality screenshots showing progress, showcases, music tracks, interviews, and videos. To be completely honest with you, at this stage, people that visit here should be those that are most interested in game development, rather than the end result. If all you are waiting for is the end result, then you're going to be continually disappointed until we've reached beta stage (we are nearing a fully-playable alpha). But if you are someone who enjoys game development and watching something grow until final fruition, then this is the place for you. Again, thanks for your patience. I hope you continue to stick with us and enjoy the progress we make each month.
  16. One of you is right. One of you is wrong.
  17. Especially for a traditional RTS. BfME2 used formations, but they dissolved rather quickly into a mosh pit like every other RTS (from the gameplay vids I have seen).
  18. You are correct MAXDARK. There is a specific order types of units go into when tasked to a formation. Ideally, one would only task one type of unit into its own formation, but when a mixed formation is created, generally cavalry goes in the front/flanks, melee infantry in the middle, and ranged units in the rear. Some formations are specific to unit-type. For instance, 'wedge' is specific to cavalry only; 'phalanx', 'syntagma', and 'testudo' are specific to melee infantry only; etc. etc. Oh, and a phalanx will "dissolve" once the number of units falls below the minimum (usually killed) - resulting in the loss of the bonus the phalanx provided. This goes for most formations.
  19. We're actually cooking up something much better. Details forthcoming.
  20. Elephants will have a "damage frenzy" where they run amok when injured. Luckily for the player, they may be healed even in this state.
  21. I disagree. I always thought it was stupid in the cartoon "G. I. Joe" how tank crews and helicopter pilots always "abandoned ship" before their vehicles were hit by missile fire. Very unrealistic. However, your point is moot, as we don't have any kind of APC or its equivalent in our game.
  22. lol... The units don't have fingers either. It comes down to game performance. We'd love for each unit to have 4,000 polygons and distinctive facial geometry, but it's just not feasible with current technology and not needed for a game of this type. RTS games aren't supposed to be zoomable to the point of needing facial geometry. To zoom in that far would lose the player the ability to command the battle effectively. Having said that, a few heroes might have some custom "cinematic" heads and meshes for cut-scenes/cinematics.
  23. The most tedious micro, we hope, will be lessened for you. For instance, if a bunch of units construct a storehouse, they'll immediately begin attacking the nearest resource. Farms will reseed as long as you have a unit there to harvest it. Standard RTS features will be implemented. Units will keep going after resources until no more are within LOS, etc. However, micro such as you described (units within an APC get wasted if the APC gets wasted) is realistic and needed within the realm of RTS. In 0 A.D., the player will need to micro his units effectively in the thick of battle in order to emerge victorious. Not only will there be a web of paper>rock>scissor counters, but there will be formations available to the player, each with specific bonuses and weaknesses, necessitating additional battlefield micromanagement prowess.
  24. This topic has the most one-line replies I have ever seen.
