  1. Well, that would make it limiting. I think that it would be better if you had to dig wells, do irrigation for crops, etc,... then you would have people bring the water from the stream, river, brook or a well to the town centre. The more units you have, the more water you need.
  2. That sounds a bit like what the "borg" do in Star Trek. I think that just forcing them to gather resources would suffice. You could have it so that if you don't guard them though, they will try to flee to their home faction.
  3. That figures. Maybe though, you could have an on and off function. I do think that the soldiers in the phalanx formation should naturally just attack that way and have no other option. One thing I do recommend is having formations like the testudo, wedge and phalanx become less as effective when they are on hilly terrain due to the fact that the formations could kind of collapse. As for another idea. I mentioned before having animals have a primitive social kind of organization, (like wolves being in packs, lions in prides, maybe even having wildebeests migrating in herds.) but I think that it would be really cool if the animals hunted, grazed, and reproduced. My thought is just having it like a life-cycle. For instance, a pack of wolves are prey on the deer (It would be really neat to have them interact realistically when they hunt by surrounding and ambushing the prey.) and begin to stuff themselves and do a lot of reproduction until the deer are next to extinction, then the wolves almost die out because of starvation, but the plants are now thriving, being so, the deer begin grow in population...... You could make it where trees reproduce, but are burnt in forest fires, trampled, and struck by lightning. That way, nature would always change, but would not grow take over. You could also have some animals like coyotes raid your stock perhaps.
  4. I have never heard of that. Will You fill me in? The reason I was suggesting it is that then you could more easily do a kind of war of attrition tactic on your opponent, a very common thing during the ancient times. (Fabius was known for this, but so was the Persian general Mardonias.) I also think that it would be neat if the archers had a slightly slower firing rate and less effective accuracy, but a very long range and pretty devastating attacks. If you do archery, you realize that it doesn't just take about one and a half seconds to fire an arrow. It actually take more like three or four. The bow can also really surprise you with it's range. I think that it would also be pretty neat if the leaders would holler random things like "Get back in your positions." or "Charge!" etc... in their native language of course. It would also be neat to see the leader actually brandish his weapon as he would do this. Are the Persian heroes done?
  5. In the trac/wiki, it says that when soldiers are their opponent's territory, they will rapidly lose hit points until a timer runs out. My idea is that to make it so that to restore hit points, you could send in a supply wagon and it would restore several units hit points until it runs out of supplies and must return to the civic centre or market for more. Perhaps they could also boost morale for a short period of time too.
  6. Thanks for the info. This is one recommendation for sharks though. They should be more attracted when a unit is wounded and would be more active at night.
  7. Well the reason I brought it up was this, gazelles for instance, can run at forty mph. That is about the top speed of a racing horse. The point is that it will be hard enough to catch up with the gazelle on horseback and you still have to hack it to pieces. I am just saying that it would seems to me much more logical. How many times does a hunter hunt with a sword or a hand-to-hand spear? This is another idea, probably not for the next alpha but perhaps for the one after the one after that, but I think that it would be neat if animals functioned realistically. For instance, wolves could stay in packs and would raid stock and protect their territory. Will camels produce milk? Maybe you could shear some domestic animals to gain gold as an alternative to having them be milked.
  8. Saint George was the patron saint of England. Saint Lucy was the patron of the blind. (She is the source of the song Santa Lucia.) Saint Nicholas is well.... oh never mind. Michael is the saint of policemen. I will have to look into that a bit more though.
  9. That's interesting. So is it just by chance that they looked that way?
  10. These are some ideas I have. I think that the cavalry being capable of hunting makes sense, but I think that it would be more realistic if they could hunt with javelins and maybe could hunt birds. I think that at least some time, it would be neat to make it so that cavalry knock down infantry when they charge. I also think that adding in a unique death for fiery arrows would look pretty awesome. (kind of like the deaths in rome total war.) Other wise, I would like it if the farms would not partly vanish when put on hilly ground. (That was something I saw in the first alpha version. I haven't installed the second alpha yet.) This is just a question, but in the video showing two individual units fighting against each other, they had blocking animations. Will all units fight this way?
  11. These are just several notes about angels. There are elect angels, angels that care for churches. Messenger angels are important in their own way and could actually do pretty cool stuff. (Look at the story of the announcement of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.) Seraphim were dedicated to worshiping God. They are known to usually have six wings. Cherubim are by the way quite similar to seraphim as in they have six wings, but their function in the classes of angels is dedicated to protecting the holiness of God. They should also be depicted as very fiery. (Their name actually means "fiery".) They are also depicted with four heads in Ezekial chapter 1 and riding in a chariot. Actually, Lucifer was a cherub. Angels could do incredible feats such as striking entire armies with sickness and could move very massive rocks. The thing that I would emphasize the most about their overall physical characteristic of being very bright. Their flight pattern by the way, was described with only flapping one pair of wings. (Isaiah 1) As for heroes, I would suggest saints such as Saint George. The main problem with him though is that he is English.
  12. What is the Biblical reference for the Pentagram god power? Where is a hell hound in the Bible? There are actually hundreds of amazing things that the Bible mentions that you could consider a god power. For instance, let's take the siege of Gog and Magog. There are two potential god powers there. #1 God, rains down fire on the bad guys and #2 Satan causes the world to supply him with a massive army. (it is described as having the number of the sands of the sea and having magnificent armor and horses. I am not saying that they would have to be that big, but you could perhaps summon a fairly large army.) What about the Trumpet of death? That caused millions of horsemen to come over and slaughter over 1/3 of the earth's population with fire, sulfur, and smoke? (excepting Christians) As for Biblically accurate myth units, what about Seraphim, Cherabim, leviathons, chariot angels, messenger angels, demons that can posses humans and animals, kill humans, torture them, etc,... As for the reason for conversion giving favor instead of the shear existence of Christians, may I remind you of the parable of the Prodigal Son or the shepherd finding the lost lamb. Angels do rejoice when a person is converted according to the Bible and Jesus commands Christians telling them to go out into the world and spread the Word of God. Christians are commanded to convert other people not just exist.
  13. This is my suggestion for the Christian factions for gaining favor. They convert people. I guess if you didn't want to make it be like Age of Empires, you could simply make it so that when they convert a unit, they do not fight as hard against you because you're fellow Christians. Another idea is merely changing them to being neutral. As for god powers, the seals, trumpets, and bowls of judgement would make incredible god powers.
  14. When do you to finish all of the formations for 0 A.D.? I wouldn't mind if was completed in even a year, but do you have any actual estimate of when it should be done? Alpha 5? Beta?
  15. Yes, of course. Mythology is the study of myths and myths are misrepresentations of the truth
  16. I guess that this is just me, but I think that many people will be offended by seeing Christianity, Islam, and Judaism being depicted as myths. How would you like Atheism being featured as a myth in this mod?
  17. I am just wondering because the fairly old battle video of Demetrius fighting against the celtic video showed blocking animations. Will people fight much like this in the game?
