auron, even if everyone and their cat voicing their opinion on the forum is tiring (maybe even exasperating!), it's not enough for being harsh with people as you just were (especially towards new community members). It's not the first time I read yell-ish and quite disrespectful posts from you, btw. Please calm down and edit your previous post, especially the last sentences.4 points

I kind of agree with Auron's sentiment. I only skimmed this thread, mind you, however there are few things that slightly annoy me. First off, if you're going to criticize the game, which is a totally legitimate thing to do in my opinion, then be courteous about it. Everyone who comes into 0 AD definitely comes with their ideas and past experiences. You can indeed contribute your thoughts, ideas and past experiences to discuss certain aspects of the game. However that does not mean that you are right (or wrong) and that the game should be developed how you say it should be. You are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to join the forums and (somewhat aggressively) criticize the way things are done. Pathing and coding is being continuously worked on by marvelous people who spend their free time and utilize their skills to help the game. It's unreal that anyone would work on something so hard for free during their free time; this is why you must worship them and not criticize their work, which isn't finished anyway. Similarly, the game design is being worked on. Anyone is free to come and contribute their ideas on how things you should be. The right attitude is to come in and discuss things rationally, using things like in game experience and past RTS experiences to back up your claims. The wrong attitude is to join the forums and tell people that what they're doing is wrong. It's somewhat insulting to those who have been working on this game. This may seem a little rich coming from me since I have been very vocal about a lot of things concerning 0 AD in the past (counter system, tech pairing, what have you) however I've always attempted refrain from forcing my own ideas too much (i back up what i say with lots of arguing). It's also very difficult for a single person to design the game from ground up. That post at the top of the thread was a just bit condescending. I understand some of the issues that that person is bringing up but he's not being very polite about it, so to speak.3 points

Don't we have a read before posting thread ? Adressing those issues there would allow a single link posting instead of tiring members don't you think. Moreover the first post was not that nice either and this game is a part of each member of the community.2 points

I recently made some steam grid images for 0 A.D. How it may look like: Standard size for stream grid images is 460x215. How to use a steam grid image?1 point

Hello! I've been studying some bases of Sanskrit so that I can contribute to Mauryan voices. As a first step, here are the translations I made using the Monier-Williams English-Sanskrit Dictionary. Some grammatical mistakes might be present, so if anyone has some knowledge of Sanskrit they can voice their opinion. Some forms may be a bit long, so maybe it's better to change some strings (for instance, saying "Fisherman" instead of "I will fish" would probably be better). Thanks in advance!1 point

Hello, I play 0 A.D. since Alpha 15. But me and my friend stopped playing since of a very annoying bug, that always occurred, when the joined player (not the hosting one!) build walls which had more than one segment. We waited for Alpha 16 and Alpha 17 but non of those versions fixed the bug. After deeper search it looks like we are the only once with this issue. We both opened up port 20959 and disabled our firewalls and anti-virus-programs. And we tried Build 15843 on Windows (both). 15849 on Ubuntu and Arch. We also tried to mix the Builds (one player on Windows and one on Linux). We tried it via the lobby, via the main menu and that even with Hamachi. Today I tried to reproduce it with another friend. We were able to do so. But only I disconnected when he was hosting. Not him when I was hosting. I attached both log folders. He (xeramon) was hosting. I connected and build a long wall. Got disconnected and exited the game. (tried to keep the log files as short as possible) Take a look at the different length of the commands.txt. In my log file the action of building a wall was not even named. Hope the log files help. Another issue we have is, that a friend can not join my mp-game. Instead of the Map image he sees the 0 A.D. logo. and no information about anything (other users, map) or even the chat. He can write something in the chat and I can read it. He can set his status to ready. When I start the game I joined and was able to play. He stuck in the empty "prepare screen" and could still write via the chat. (Messages even appeared ingame on my screen). He tried disconnecting and rejoining, but no luck. However, I was then able join HIS game without any problems. But sometimes the problem also occurred when I tried to join his game. It's wired and I don't know how to describe it. Thanks in advance. yannick_logs.zip xeramon_logs.zip1 point

This is somewhat interesting. If I may, I have been toying around with the idea of doing a total and completely new unit set for a bit now, mostly for playing around with different types of counter systems. I decided not to do it since it would be a lot of work and I don't feel like bringing to the table a completely new unit set while Scythe and his testers are actively working on something else. My own unit set would be made from scratch though and made in a way so that units are designed to have a fill a role rather than being just numbers; I understand this was alpha123's original idea. I played around a bit in the map editor while doing this and the results I obtained were interesting to say the least, I had fun with the units I created by modifying their stats. The idea was to eliminate counters almost completely: only the bonus that spear infantry have against cavalry would remain (for realism AND because cavalry play a different fundamental role in my new unit set). A simple example, archers vs skirmishers: Don't you criticize Age of Empires 3. </3 !!! it's an excellent game in so many ways1 point

I believe you're not very well-informed about Scythe's Balancing Branch (not surprise branch), Qwerty. It has been tested over a couple of months by a couple of skilled players (not me) (but I believe you will find them in the SVN lobby rather than in the A17 lobby). Nonetheless I think it would be a good idea to revive the Design Team (which seems to be rather dead since Michael and Alpha123 left). That team doesn't need to consist of the best players (although competitive player input is a must) around but rather with of the guys with good and clear ideas.1 point

Have you checked the commands.txt file that already gets created in each game? Look in the wiki in GameDataPaths to find the files. Is that what you need?1 point

Another Indiegogo could work (having money and not spending it is not a big issue), but my problem actually lies on contributors not receiving the perks. It has been a year now, and I haven't received my perk. It would be hard having another go if the last one's promises have not been fulfilled.1 point

I'd say, Citizen Soldiers are one of the key elements that make 0 A.D. unique. New players complain about it as they expect a distinct soldier and citizen unit. Not a combination of the two. That doesn't mean there is no room for refinements but I think the idea itself is good. (Also gameplay-wise)1 point

Just a remark, this feature was one of the main reasons which inspired me to download this game about a year ago. This is both realistic and interesting. And i tend to believe that 'defined roles' in other games can be induced by complicatedness of implementation of switching roles, not only design decisions.1 point

Hello, I find this project really interesting so I spent some time to be a part of it, and so I made a new icon for the game. Hope you like it! I also made a new logo, not sure if it's 100% ready. Apreciate any feedback! (too dark? it looks different on darker backgrounds...) I have also started on a logo-animation, but it's far from finished and I don't even know to what it would be used, so I think I will wait with finishing it. I can't upload the project files (.blend). Any ideas? I see this contribution just as the beginning, next thing i'm interested in is the UI, and that in a broader sense, not only in terms of GUI but also how you select units, give orders and so on. I also have some ideas for gameplay changes, but they are so extensive that I would probably have to make a seperate mod to implement them in (and that might be too much work). I got experience with 3d editing, video editing, some 2d graphics, music and even some programming (very little). Looking forward to the future of this project!1 point
