  1. I like what hbruno has done with Atlas. It's great. Thanks for that. @Lion. To make skirmish maps, it's about the same like making regular maps. You just have special entities (type 'skirmish' in the entity search to see them, they're in a separate folder). Those special entities are "dummies" and get replaced when the actual game starts. Like if you put the skirmish CC on the map, it looks like a Greek CC at first. But when you start a game as the Mauryans, the CC gets transformed into a Mauryan CC immediately. You can make your own skirmish entities if you want for your mod. They just contain a definition by what they should be replaced. When you save the map with Atlas, you need to save it under the "skirmish" directory to let people choose their settings. In Atlas, you can also disable some player settings (like player faction) to get a more default view (defaulting to random faction, 300 wood, food ... unrevealed map ...).

  3. One idea is to, instead of having a settlement, having specific buildings which indicate what that mini-civilization is best at (and besides, having a settlement as a building is a tad strange). For instance, if a mini-civilization is renowned for its woodcrafting and archery, then its specific building could be an archery range or lumber mill, which would allow recruiting their archers and researching their arrow upgrades. This specific building could either be capturable or (as I would rather suggest) have it be usable by a player if he has units close to the building (perhaps this could be limited to special units, such as heroes). This would work more or less like neutral buildings (i.e. Goblin Laboratory) did in Warcraft III.

  4. Am I the only one that follows up closely FeXor's work? I think this is work will create the biggest change to RTS style of games ever. At last realistic terrain is coming!

  5. I found a page with some really good info about early Norse history: http://robertlyn-schultz.newsvine.com/_news/2010/10/19/5315813-viking-historical-timeline-of-the-norse-people-part-18000-bc-to-ad-900

  6. pesapower, I've looked over your website and cannot find anything regarding how your service works. How does it detect malicious users before they try to brute force? What exactly is the service you're offering? Is it just an IP blacklist? These are things you should be open about. Looking further, I don't see any API documentation. I see documentation about a library, which I cannot download until I register for your service. But nothing about the working of the API. Also, since you're in the business of security, I find this little part of your documentation very interesting: One thing that I also wonder about: how do you warrant privacy for 3rd parties (the customers of your customers)? Your privacy statement talks about a person's personal privacy; what about their users? Since I cannot access your library and do not have any API documentation, I can't know exactly -what- is sent to your service, but there is user data sent along with every API request I'm sure. What happens with this data? What is stored, where is it stored, how securely is it stored and what is it used for? While I think everyone here appreciates you offering your services, I honestly don't see it happening with the current tidbits of information you have provided. Especially not in exchange for advertising space. I thank you for your advice about the Wordpress problem though. I have remedied the issue.
