Changes unit cost

I am opening this topic to discuss the cost of citizen units.

My idea is to standardize the cost of the units.

Citizen melee and ranged infantry cost: 50 food and 50 wood.

Cavalry cost:
Javelin cavalry: 100 food 50 wood
Archer, sword and spear cavalry: 100 food 30 wood 20 food.

The intention is to ensure that the infantry is on an equal footing across all factions.
On maps where you only have access to a metal or stone mine, slingers or swordmans can be a problem in late game.
Javelin cavalary is the cheapest cavalry, costing only food and wood.
The additional cost of gold for the strongest cavalry.
A ptolomeu camel spam rush becomes a little more difficult.
Spear cavalry can easily take down other cavalry at the beginning of the game, mainly javelin cavalry, so now it would cost a little gold, which in theory improves balance.

The intention is also that also about more metal and stone for the research of techs and also to facilitate the training of mercenaries and champions.

I would like everyone's opinion.

Tnx and have a good day!!!

For balance I think it it would be better to add small pockets of metal and stone mines across all maps because there is often a few large chunks of metal/stone and often times around the edges around the map that stay unmined untill the game ends because they are too far from the battlefield and "choke-points"

slingers should still cost stone to stay realistic - only thing that would make a bit more sense is to make melee infantry cost 60 food and 40 metal, and ranged (javelins and archers) cost 40 food and 60 wood - the hp difference where spears/pikes have double than ranged, and also more wood is used for arrows and javelins than on one pike/spear so it seems more sensible

It's arguably not really realistic. They used stones they could find on the terrains and didnt need crafting. There were crafted clay bullets and metal bullets too, but stone was just picked up from the ground.

Good point, thanks, I stand corrected then in that case make them cost the same as any other ranged

  • 60 food
  • 40 wood

Cavalry Spear

  • 100 food
  • 40 wood

Infantry Sword

  • 70 food
  • 30 metal

Cavalry Sword

  • 110 food
  • 30 metal

Infantry Javelin & Archer

  • 40 Food
  • 60 Wood

Cavalry Javelin & Archer

  • 80 food
  • 60 Wood

Infantry Slinger

  • 40 food
  • 20 stone (weak slingers) or metal (strong slingers; Balearic, Rhodian)

I agree with this on everything accept the sword cost - maybe make it like 60 food 10 wood (10 wood for the shield) - same for cav - because 70 food for sword might make roman and iberian start a bit more food heavy early on and slow their eco production in first 3-4 minutes, if there is just one berrie spot and low hunt those civs would have a rougher time

EDIT: I quite like the differentiation between weak and strong slinger cost - this would make it like weak and strong war elephants and make civs more diverse
