The color player is saturated, the resources are darkest colors, terrain is desaturated.

Yep, do dis. Also, players colors should be more saturated overall (and contrasty). Here are the player colors for my mod:

@wowgetoffyourcellphone: that's more of a rendering issue and I indeed think that the render order should be different (since apparently mines are also covered by trees often)

And actually, I don't want the player colors to be thát saturated. That's way too neon-like IMHO.

But how about the resource color change I proposed? (pink was the color that was used for metal in Empire Earth)

@Lion.Kanzen: these are the color changes I mentioned, I know what the AoK minimap looks like

At first I had the dark orange for the bushes, pink for the metal mines and limegreen for the animals. Would that be better?

the problem is the users can relate to pink to metal, and we can't use gray.

I know the thing to be creative but we need try to be use common language, in mostly of RTS metal/gold are golden Rod or Gold.

the problem with orange is the players were familiarized with that and the color player.

is very perceptive

On the other hand, since yellow is the most visible color of all the colors, it is the first color that the human eye notices. Use it to get attention, such as a yellow sign with black text, or as an accent. Have you noticed yellow fire engines in some cities?

According to surveys in Europe and the United States, pink is the color most associated with sweet foods and beverages. Pink is also one of the few colors to be strongly associated with a particular aroma, that of roses

But Empire Earth does use (some kind of) pink for Metal (or Iron) and it works very well for them IMO.

yeah im sure of that, because they have stone(gray), gold(yellow) and Iron(pink). in others words isn't the first choice.

Metal represents in 0A.D

  • gold
  • iron
  • silver
  • cooper

So?

Gold looks to much like the yellow player (or too much like dirt terrain in a darker version)

Silver looks too much like stone

And copper is a lot like the dark orange we have right now... (a bit more brownish, but that again is going to look a lot like dirt terrain)
