erik_hobag
How big will the maps be? I thought that AOE 3 and AOM the maps were too small. In relation to the maps on AOE 2 how big will the maps be in 0 A.D.?

Mythos_Ruler
Unknown at this time. As big as we can make them with minimal lagtime. Hopefully AOK size. Edited August 10, 2007 by Mythos_Ruler
erik_hobag
That's great to hear. I like REALLY BIG maps. Space to move without bumpin the enemy
c0d3::M0nk3y
i like big maps too... gives you time to actually build up your economy and "get a life" before bringing out the big-guns
MrBlack103
Also creates lots of "wilderness" instead of the entire map being a blob of buildings
MrEmjeR
but you have to remind that bigger maps also requires more memory! but that idea about that lots of wildernis is realy cool!! then you can chose good battlefields or do steal attacks! Villi
Will the maps be square or circular?
Mythos_Ruler
Square. But keep in mind "circular" maps in games like AOE3 really are square maps with the corners blocked off. So, it's apparently not hard to do. We'll think about it some more later.
Apomonomenos
What'll happen/look at the edge of a map, will it be like in AoM were you can see into the land (part of mythology saying the Earth is flat, incase no one noticed it), or will it be foggy, like in AoEIII. Also, what happens if a soldier gets to close? I know it seems obvious, but it just doesn't seem realistic for a guy to stop there.Maybe it could be shaped into an outlining of a map, and not just plane square. MrEmjeR
I don't get how u want to do this!do u mean that the figure dissapear if he's close the the edge? like a sort of falling from the worldwith all games (rgp, fps and rts) u figures stp if they reach the edge. thats normal

Not to mention all the spelling & grammar mistakes you've made.Spell check is only a right click on the misspelled word away. MythicRuler
AoM can have really big maps if you have the upgraded editor. Havent you played the good World Maps before?
MrEmjeR
srry for the off topic but what are 'the good World Maps'@ Alexanderthegod - srry about the spell mistake, but I'm Dutch and just learning enlisch. and above that i'm a dyslexion guy. and I don't see any spell control button in the post screen.Maybe it could be shaped into an outlining of a map, and not just plane square. this is an suggestion not an question. and i just asked, how u want this to work. Apomonomenos
I had a question above, so I thought u meant that. What I meant was instead of a Square or Circle, the map is shaped like a country, for example, Greece & the West coast of Turkey, outlining the edge of parts that were part of the Trojan War, and take out everything else. Justinian
It's an interesting idea. So, like Mythos' idea of cutting of the edges, just not so the map was a circle?

Justinian
It was your idea, I was just throwing around a suggestion of how to implement it.
Apomonomenos
I was joking, did you not hear "Aside from the Jokes", or "OK, now I'm serious."
MrBlack103
I'd probably like irregularly-shaped maps. Just like a random blob of terrain.
MrEmjeR
I think that would be hardly to make that in the game and gives a lot of trouble with random map scriptsand what Mythos_Ruler said before, It becames just a square map with black shaped edges where nobody can come. u anly lose a lot of space.another option: in random maps the edge of the world can be filled with trees, mountains, sea or an other space filler, so u can't see the edge. MrBlack103
Ok, my idea was a bit insane. However, you can't go wrong with a good old diamond-shaped map.
MrEmjeR
indeed, ur rightbut it's better if u choice between square, diamond or circular.
