  1. I think Erik was just stereotyping for fun, not seriously. That's what this threat is about anyway. It's always good to be able to make fun of yourself or your country, atleast if it's not meant too seriously. Maybe I've been used to that too much, living close to the Netherlands, where they make fun of Belgians constantly
  2. Well, I welcome everyone to laugh with the Belgians, I'm the only one here and I like laughing with my own people
  3. Regarding the fries, why it's called french is somewhere on that site. In Belgium we just say frieten (fries), and in the Netherlands they say patat (potatoe). Yeah that guy must have too much time on his hands, but we Belgians are proud of our fries
  4. Yeah it is, read all about it on: http://www.belgianfries.com/
  5. And if it's weren't for Belgium there wouldn't be french fries
  6. Lol, been watching naked women all my life, some friends and my parents are naturists/nudists, and I have a gf Yeah I meant the US, but there are many countries where guns are accepted as normal and sex not.
  7. Quite a lot: - barman - table cleaner at a restaurant - DJ - worked in a slaughterhouse - worked for a butcher - worked in a food distribution center - baby sitter - vacation guide - a few jobs at home, for example cleaning out huge dung pits (), demolishing buildings, feeding animals (5000 chickens ), collecting and sorting eggs - web designer - hosting resller - some stuff for wfg and dgdn That's it I think
  8. It's forbidden in Belgium, just as in the Netherlands. I'm glad it is, strange world it is when kids are allowed to play with fake guns but forbidden to watch naked women on tv.
  9. Hmmm, I don't really know about Belgians, but if you want a negative one about Flemings: self-centered, racists
  10. That beerdrinking isn't a stereotype, it's the truth! But, yep, I totally agree
  11. Yeah, I think the stereotyping isn't a good thing. The show is just laughing with it, but I wouldn't take it so seriously. In any country you'll find people that know absolutely nothing about the neighbour countries, doesn't mean every single person in that country is like that.
  12. I heared about this show a while ago and it was said that it's made because Americans make jokes about Canadians. Anyway, guys, no hard feelings for eachother! The Dutch and Belgian constantly make jokes about eachother, and they aren't always nice, but we're the best friends out there In Belgium we always say the Dutch are greedy and arrogant and in The Netherlands they say Flemish is a French dialect, that we are a conservative farmer's nation. There's always a little truth in those jokes, but they are meant to laugh, not to cause anger. And I'm pretty sure the Dutch people around here like the Belgians despite the jokes, and the same thing goes for me. Regarding that France vs US thing. From what I know, and I live close to France, the French are not constantly laughing with Americans, I think most French people don't care much about it. If there's one nation that should feel offended by the French it's certainly not the US. My nation and people have a lot more reason to despise France, although we don't. It's easily forgotten, but in the north of France there's a region that once belonged to Flanders, where people spoke Flemish. The French forced the people there to speak French, they "brainwahsed" those Flemings that Flemish (or Dutch) is a peasant's language, the language for the lowest of the lowest. Of course that happened in the past and has fortunatly stopped the past 20 years, but if you Americans feel angry about some criticism you get from France think about that first.
  13. I don't exactly know : - 3 sheep - 1 dog - 3 fish - a bunch of chickens, somewhere between 15 and 20 - in a few weeks a few geeze (sp?) probably
  14. I'm not really a sports fanatic/lover. What I did see was all the beautiful football stadions (or is it stages?) that are built. Some look very impressive!
  15. Well I'm not studying ATM so for about 6 months I'm working. Half of that work is web design stuff, the other half physical labor at home. We have some old barns and since my dad is retired (as farmer) and doesn't need them anymore we're demolishing them. We don't want to spend any money on machines for doing it so most is done manually (except tearing down the concrete walls). So basicly I work out 4 hours a day But other than these 6 months I only ride my bike, usually 30-45 mins a day.
  16. Hey, if Tim can call me Klaasy, Zezar can call him Timmie
  17. Scientific historical books, historical novels, fantasy, literature, cultural books, political books, etc. Well as long as it's not pulp (detectives, love stories, etc.) it'll suit me
  18. My homework is helping my gf with her exams right now, but since she's studying languages I can figure out everything about maths and science for her (since she doesn't have much of that), and she can handle the language stuff herself perfectly
  19. @Matteo, yeah I could have done that but I didn't. I remembered it because I once had to write something about Italo Svevo, so Joyce and Trieste are always involved when writing about him @Eken, Yeah culturally Europe is very interesting. But like Matteo said, if you want nature the US is a lot more interesting. We do have very beautiful regions here but it doesn't come close to what you have in the US. Flanders for example is sometimes called one big city. Wherever you are, the next village is only 3 miles away and the next city around 15 miles. And next to that Flemings build there houses alongside the roads, so even if you're not in a village center you'll still see houses.
  20. ok, the site of my bourough: http://www.maldegem.be/ For some toerism stuff: toerisme -> first link -> the 4 links under 'Bezienswaardigheden' Oh they have it in English too: http://www.maldegem.be/toerisme/welcome.htm
  21. What's the name of the cloister Curu? You made me interested @Jeremiah No, actually I don't. We were part of the Netherlands, but never Holland. In 1830 several regions wanted to form Belgium, Zeeuws Vlaanderen, Brabant and Limburg among them. But during the tumult between 1830 and 1845 the Netherlands annexed Zeeuws Vlaanderen and parts of Brabant and Limburg.
  22. Lol Jeremiah. Yeah people in North-Brabant are bit like the Flemings. Quite normal of course, the Netherlands stole if from us @Matteo Do you happen to live in Trieste? (Balkan, James Joyce, regional parliament made me think of it).
