  1. Happy Birthday, Tim ! I guess you are 17 now ? Well, one more year until you can get a driving license
  2. Hmm. Hard question, and I do not want to offend any team... but let me say it in this way: I'm Forumer at Tsunami and like their community, though they are a little too AoK-based IMO. DGDN has made some nice releases in the past, but I don't know anything about their community. I don't know Woad and SCNNET very good, so I can't say anything about them. In the AoM Community, there are several new and little teams who try to get into the top design team group, but I don't like many of them, as their releases aren't very good (most times IMO, did also see some good ones) and they have no community. In German-language area, there's only one design team - my famous MWD That's a lot easier
  3. Hmm, those ideas are all great , but I doubt we will get the possibility to create such a user-customizable GUI. Perhaps things like minimizing the GUI or activating a big minimap are possible, but as we are a non-professional development team, this modular layout will most likely be too hard to code (or if not that, we need to concentrate our resources on other parts of the game, since we want to get it done some day ). Sorry, but I doubt that we can make things possible that not even ES managed to integrate into their games
  4. I probably might be able to add some minor articles about the Roman Army later - my new book has quite interesting informations about the army in it But for now, I have no time for that and also need to read the whole book before I can write anything
  5. Meh, just wanted to upload my "Fire Giant"-Avatar from AoMN.de (little exclusive Admin thing ), to finally win this contest Anyway, my current one is nice, too I'm not yet voting, because I can't remember all the avatars used around here and first would like to pick my favourite
  6. Hmm - sorry, but in that point, I really have to disagree. I personally hate the EE GUI and think it is one of the most weird interfaces out there (one main reason why I didn't like EE and stoped playing it after two weeks). If you'd like to have a less screen-cluttering UI, I would favor the AoM-Method, which lets you "minimize" the GUI by pressing a key (Ctrl + Arrow Down in AoM by default). Then you won't have the whole GUI but only the important buttons like training or building icons.
  7. Well, I guess this one goes into my responsibility area, too - so I need to take the time to answer. We first had the idea of a quite innovative GUI with lots of new and cool features - but soon we saw that this would be too far away from the quasi-standard set by the "age of"-series of games. I guess the old GUI has never been publicized, and therefore I won't post any images So we stepped back and started to redesign the GUI up from the basics - this time sticking to an Ao...-like layout (with stats window, build/train/research area, minimap, top resource trays and so on), but keeping some of the "better" or more important features and ideas of our first design (like dividing the research/build/train/command-area into several "tabs"). Acumen did a great job on documenting and designing the new GUI form. We are actually starting on making artwork for this new design - and already finished some things (like Jeru's brilliant tab buttons that already were in the news). But due to the fact that we are all quite busy, we slowed down a little in the last weeks. I'm sure we'll get back on speed when we have some nice visualisation ideas and RL things don't occupy us as much as they do now (primarily speaking for me). But I think I can already say one thing: We will be quite close to the AoM GUI (at least in-game), because we all somehow like this interface - it's intuitive but still powerful
  8. Thanks, added you (*angrily deletes MSN-Connection in Trillian just to realize that didn't help either...*).
  9. http://wildfiregames.com http://www.aomn.de (ok, self-praise ) http://php.net http://www.wdg-hamburg.de (my schools website) http://aom.heavengames.com (ofc) http://sitepoint.com (too)
  10. Tim, do you have an ICQ-Account ? Because my MSN doesn't seem to work (darned Trillian bug)...
  11. Huh ? I didn't check the WFG Community Forums for two days and a something bad happens Ok, farewell Swellick and see you again some time
  12. Well Tim, if you're interested, you can help me with the new MWD site... those other guys I assigned for webdesign don't look like they will ever get something done I can do all PHP myself, but it would be great to have a chat about design with you some time... but ok, yeah, finish the WFG site first Also, I'd like to have a little chat about AoMH and AoMN and other outside-WFG things some time - we'll see
  13. Hmm Ulysses... I guess that idea has not been posted in public here, but - at least I read TRD's post in that way - was one of the first things the game design department decided when they thought about borders
  14. Well - I'll make it short. Due to a lack of time and lots of thing I need to work on and finish, I'll concentrate my forum activities on the 0ad section and most likely not visit the WFG Community section every day - only twice a month or something like that. Our forums have really increased and there's lots of posts and topics to read and reply, which I can hardly do for all forums. Also I noticed that I didn't do much work for 0ad in the last weeks and so I decided to put my focus on the 0ad-work and not on WFG community for now. I hope you understand that, and it doesn't mean that I won't like to attend the discussions in the WFG general forums, but I simply can't manage all the things. Only some examples of my tasks: - Finish my schools website and code an admin area for it (approx. 20-30 h) - Read MWD-Forums daily (0.5 h) - Read AoMN.de-Forums daily (1-2 h) - Administrative work at AoMN.de (writing articles and news), forum administration (1-2 h) - Code a new DB-based Unit and Tech section for AoMN.de (10-20 h) - Code a fulltext-search feature for AoMN.de (3-5 h) - Read 0ad forums daily (0.5-2 h) - make some 0ad artwork (3-5 h each time I do something) - read and answer ICQ and MSN messages, and also emails (1-2 h) There's lots more - and due to the fact that I have homework and other RL stuff to do, I simply can't afford it to read so many forums. I already tried to cut down the time I need for all the stuff by kicking some not-so-important things, but all the mentioned ones are things I really need to do Please don't think that other things outside of WFG are more important to me - I try to cut down the activity there even more than I do here (by checking the forums only every second day and not taking any complicated new tasks). WFG will always be top-priority for me and I will try to keep reading and replying here until it isn't possible any more (may happen next year when I get into the final-exam stuff). So - don't be angry with me and if there's any important topic in the community forums, drop me an ICQ or MSN message or send a PM to me Malte / Fire
  15. Yeah, welcome back from me, too Hope you have a great time in Malaysia and I'm looking forward to your newest mp3 !
  16. Hehe DA... I like your current "member title" - but that "if (awake()) code();" wasn't bad either
  17. RTS and no other Though I sometimes play FPS or Simulation, but only for fun with friends...
  18. Well, I am one Admin, it's my job to get us guys going. Also, you have autumn holidays, haven't you (not sure, but I think Berlin has holidays, too ?!)
  19. Hmm, I'm not planning to get that demo in the next weeks. Why ? First, because I don't like the time period (RTS games have to be in ancient or middle ages for me) and second because I have quite a little amount of time available for gaming now (though I have holidays, but things like AoMN.de take quite a lot of my time)
  20. Hmm... maybe a little bit OT, but I just watched a nice film about life in imperial Rome on Sunday in the German television - maybe someone saw that, too ? My only problem with it was that is was quite critical about the Roman achievements (calling the empire an "empire of violence") - what I can't really agree with :-( Back on topic - I'm really looking forward to get the last part of LotR on DVD, because it would be quite awesome to see the whole triology in one night together with some friends But the other movies also sound quite interesting... For PC games, AoM:TT is my one-and-only for a couple of months - I just do not have the time to actively play more than one game. But perhaps we'll get some more infos about Rome - TW, that'd be quite awesome
  21. 24. October BTW, my post was more or less directed to the US guys, because they are the only ones who can actually buy The Titans and can play on ESO But I guess it's normal AoM then for a last time
  22. *agrees* That is just the problem I had when I wanted to upgrade the Compaq-PC of my brother... they even had some complex mechanic to fix the mainboard so you couldn't remove it (well, you could, but you needed to be brutal and destroy it...). Compaq tower cases are relatively good, but can't be compared with Dell or custom ones (Chieftec ). For three years now, I only use self-built computers and I must say that my self-built machines run much better then any company-assembled system, because I know what pieces should be from good companies (like the mainboard, which is often noname or selfmade in those company computers) and which ones can be less expensive ones
