Ah, thanks, okay. So, if I create a template file called "template_unit_ship_warship_greek_penteconter.xml", I have to set the Entity parent to <Entity parent="civ/athen|template_unit_ship_warship_greek_penteconter">. Is that right?
-
The Athenian penteconter file (called ship_bireme.xml, even though it's not a bireme) has the entity parent "civ/athen|template_unit_ship_warship_light". Where do I find this file? Is it the usual template_unit_ship_warship_light in the templates folder that other ships use? Then what does the "civ/athen|" mean? The Spartan penteconter (also bireme.xml) for example does not have "civ|spart" before the template file name. Can I just ignore the "civ/athen|" part? I hope you understand what I mean.

[A26] Wardog flood on Magadha, 1v1 vs Petra Very Hard
Vantha replied to richelbilderbeek's topic in Alpha 26
Interesting... I've tried wardog rushes in the past, but never really succeeded. For this approach, against a human player, you would probably have to micromanage the dog attacks more, as human players would not send single units to attack the dogs. -
I think mercenary champions are a great idea. In my opinion, it's a bit boring that all champions have the exact same damage, resistance, and price. I think it would add variety to, for example, increase one champion unit's damage and decrease its resistance. Maybe decrease another unit's price at the cost of making it less powerful. Or (like with mercenary champions) just change the price to make one unit cost only metal, or no metal and more food and wood. This would allow for more strategies and build orders. But that's just my opinion. What do you think?

I agree, I think there is a theater in Sparta, but it was built at a time as Sparta was already part of the Roman Empire. The Spartans should not have a theater in the game.

I think he's talking about adding one new template berries file, putting the description into it and using it as EntityParent for all the different berry files. Or am I wrong and it doesn't work like this?

I'm sure there are people on this forum who will find this very interesting. No foreknowledge is needed to understand the texts. Anybody reading and giving feedback would be much appreciated.

i managed to install the mod without crashes, but everytime i play with AI, i get lots of errors. (the same error again and again) Here is my log file.interestinglog.html

I personally like to have the crossbow champions trained at the siege workshop. It's very unique. Their crossbow is just a smaller version of the bolt shooter, so it definitely makes sense. And it doesn't make a big difference when it comes to gameplay.
-
The Macedonians had far more advanced siege engines and used them way more than most other civilizations. I suggest to give the Macedonians one expensive late game research tech (additionally to the ones all civs have) to increase their siege engines damage. Also, in reality the Helepolis (Macedonian siege tower) could fit hundreds maybe thousands of people inside. I suggest to increase production time, garrison limit and damage.

Everytime I open the .pyromod file with 0ad, it crashes and does not correctly install the mod. Any ideas why?

Is this mod for A26?

Optimize / speed development via GPT
Vantha replied to Stev's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I guess it could do that, but it has no memory and can't directly search or remember quotes in ancient texts. It would just google it which you can also do yourself. -

@ChronA I would love to hear your thoughts on Chatgpt plugins. From what I've seen they are not as useful as they seemed when they were inteoduced, but I don't have Chatgpt plus and you seem like a person who has tried them out. Cheers! (just kidding) -

Really? No way, I was about to ask wether Gpt 4 wrote that second response. It seemed very suspicious to me. But the first one ... I didn't notice anything. Haha, I like that -

That's something I've also noticed. I still prefer Bing Chat just because it's free and good enough for what I need it for. That's a very interesting idea... and from what I can tell it actually worked pretty well. You probably have a good reason to do it like this, but isn't that task perfect for something like autogpt? Also, I might be wrong about this, but doesn't Chatgpt Plus use the exact same browsing mechanism as Bing Chat? That's true, he can't and there's no way for him to tell whether I'm lying. I just personally have a clear vision of how I want the texts to be like and therefore write all texts myself. Also, I like doing research myself on these topics, so having Bing Chat or Chatgpt do everything would cut off the interesting and fun part for me. -

The problem is that many people have only tried the free version of Chatgpt. And to be honest I don't really understand to hype around Chatgpt. Yes, it is good at creative tasks, but that's it. When you try to do research with it or ask simple logic questions, it completely fails. So, yes, it is correct, you totally shouldn't use the free version fo Chatgpt for anything serious. But, Bing Chat and Chatgpt Plus are miles ahead of the free Chatgpt. They use Gpt 4 instead of Gpt 3.5 like free Chatgpt and can browse the internet. This makes them 10x more useful than basic Chatgpt. Now, I know people will critizise this, but I personally use Bing Chat every day for doing research or troubleshooting. And when I say research I don't mean asking it for information, because all it does is checking the first few search results, which I can also do myself. Asking it to explain complicated texts or connections between topics has actually helped me a lot and saved me countless hours. I don't have Chatgpt Plus but it's said to be similar to Bing Chat. @Stev asked if Gpt could be used to help with coding and while I haven't tried to use Gpt 4 for coding, I have to say Gpt 4 with internet access is very good at helping with troubleshooting, that's why i think it should be able to do basic bug fixing. Still, after all, you are right, it's best to help in other ways if you don't know how to code. Btw, don't worry I haven't used anything Ai related for the encyclopedia. -

I guess you could help with bug fixing. Have a look at some tickets and paste the related code into GPT, ask it what the problem is and to fix it. I don't know how well this works but you could try. -
Also, I opened a pull request for Spartan champions, infantry and cavalry. It would be nice if someone could look over it and check everything.

So I can't just edit the version number in the mod.json file to run it in A26? Ok.

I installed the mod, when opening the structure tree I get lots of errors, it can't find icon png files. Did I do something wrong in the installation process?

asked ChatGPT (collection) - answers correct?
Vantha replied to seeh's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Of course, this "translation" I described is not really translation. That's why I put it in quotation marks. But the concept of computers following commands in human language is a very important idea/purpose behind Large language models and everything they can do in general, not just programming. (In fact, when training an LLM you can't really prevent it from learning how to code) Right now, yes, but there are already the first programs that can code (very simple) apps or websites for you. And these tools will just get better and better in the future. LLMs (or programs that use LLMs) will eventually become powerful enough to write very specific and complicated pieces of code and even be able to code entire programs like 0ad from one simple prompt. -
Strange things going on with the Roman army camp
Vantha replied to Vantha's topic in General Discussion
That does make sense. I just thought the only way to get units of higher ranks is to have them fight.
