Thing is we already have temples, so another unique healing station while nice for eye candy will simply be redundant, also not really relevant to the function, a stronger fit is to tie a health bonus to the building because cleanliness means less disease so healthier people. Also they usually had gymnasiums attached. So a health bonus overall seems most appropriate. -

Fair point, but auras shouldn't affect that though since its just an effect attached to a unit. -

The game is not slow, 12 minute third phase is hyper fast, there is no reason to do anything in second phase beyond prepping for third phase. Average games last half an hour if you lucky. less than five minutes if you really unlucky and get rushed. -

Perhaps an often asked question, but why can't Army camps be built in your own territory when the siege walls can be? Like why the hesitancy to allow that? -

All good I am uncertain what a philhellene is, I am assuming its someone who loves all things Grecian. I like all things Roman, so yah Honestly most of the current game play feels like conjuring waves upon waves of levies lol. But I do agree I would prefer things that showcase their tactical brilliance, and not just for Rome either, while that will always my first civ of choice I do want worthy opponents and I do like to try new things as well when I feel the need. The burning question then is how does one showcase the tactical genius -

Auras would be a good feature to use more Roman Eagle standards -

Takes over whole of known world and holds it for half a millennia. I already accepted your earlier point, but I do not think I am overrating to much given their accomplishments. -

You could also give hastati a 1.5 modifier against other melee infantry. -

So I was thinking, why did Triarii never get put as the Roman champion infantry. Then I began thinking about how one might implement the change from Extraordinarii to Triarii. and in the same breath double down on emphasizing the humble Roman legionary and his sword. Firstly the regular spearman has to go, for two reasons, one that triari are highly valued veterans, two because this reliance on spearmen for every faction does not fit with Rome. So starting with the clipping of the spearmen we then must consider that now there is the issue with hastati having a metal cost. This is resolved by adding a second phase technology that removes the metal cost and makes it a food or wood extra. Now one is free to replace the Extraordinarii with the Triarii. To further add emphasis on legionaries one might add a second technology again in second or third phase that buffs hastati further. And as discussed a little back there is the centurion as well -

Funny thing is that when i saw a video from Invicta I think it was, on the Skiritai, it was truly underwhelming compared to the game lol. -

I am not disputing that at all, I quite enjoyed using them back in the day. I was simply pointing out that spartan champion swords men where different to the others -

Spartan champion swords where in a class of their own since they traded 2 hack damage for 2 extra pierce and hack armour, which ultimately made them far more useful against ranged blocks. -

oh, I did not know this, now I feel disappointed at realizing my champion isn't actually "Roman" lol Centurions for the win -

Greaves seems reasonable as officers could afford to pay for extra things. -

Very very nice -
Here is a simple idea to differentiate Roman swordsmen, they use scutum, which gives more protection from missiles, so increase their pierce resistance by 1 or something. Testudo, count it as a debuff such that archers that fire at it have a very low chance of hitting the troops in it. Gladius, give them higher attack speed since they where taught to use the point which is faster to administer than a cut.

Skiritai do standout, are unique, and do make Sparta unique. Spartiates as well. They may be generic units but the bonuses grant them that uniqueness. This is why I am frustrated that Roman siege bonus was cut down, it made the Roman generic siege units feel unique, and if you couple that with unique unit aesthetic you are sorted. I do not see anything wrong with a roman slinger, there are multiple factions with two ranged infantry units and some with three, Rome has been stripped of so much already and had nothing given back to it.
