  1. Thanks for suggesting that we take a look at compression, I think some thought has already went into this, but I'm sure the programming department likes suggestions like this. I'll leave it to them to answer what we've already planned etc though as I don't have much knowledge about these things =)

  2. I think I've seen a similar answer to this question somewhere else, but I don't remember where so I'll say something here too.

While we're not aiming for many thousands of units we're sure going to try to have a significant amount, but as that will be depending on how much computing power the rest of the game will need we cannot give any estimates at the moment. (y)

  3. Hmm, not sure how to answer such a question. If I'd been able to look into the future I might have, but now I don't so I can't.

More seriously speaking though: It's a tough question, but unfortunately I guess it isn't too hard to answer. That the game won't be finished this year is most likely beyond all doubts, would require a miracle and the ability for everyone on the team to work full time on the game, so that's out of the question. And while we do hope and believe that a lot will happen next year I wouldn't promise anything. There are too many things which are uncertain, whether people will have the time, or motivation as people only have a moral obligation to do something for the game. Whether the number of bugs will be low, whether all practical stuff will work as good as they should, servers and ISPs etc. It doesn't take much to make the development take another extra week.

We're doing what we can though and hope you'll like our game when it's finished, we've spent "some" time at it already after all (y) (And the time I've spent cannot really be compared to those who have been on the team for years)

On another note, someone said something about not liking the title: That's not difficult to change, I would have done it a long time ago, but since it wasn't me who started the thread I've thought that it's not too fair to start to edit other people's text without telling them. But if you want us to change it we can do that, and it's just for the topic starter to go back and edit his first post if he wants to.

  4. I'm not sure I understand what it is you're talking about. Do you mean if we (WFG) have considered this, or if it's possible?

I don't think WFG will create any such content (at least not at the moment as 0 A.D. takes up a lot of time) apart from the already released Rome at War mod for AoK (Which can be found here: http://wildfiregames.com/raw/ ) But several of the team members have been (and perhaps still are to some extent) active in the modding community and I'm sure that you or anyone else who'd try to do such a thing could receive great tips from some of the great minds here at WFG (y)

As a matter of fact 0 A.D. started out as an attempt to create TC (as in Total Conversion, not The Conquerors :) ) for AOK, but ended up being developed as a game of it's own. (More on that can be found here: http://www.wildfiregames.com/0ad/page.php?p=6911 )

  5. Right now? Not at all as it's not done yet :)(y)

But to put it more serious: We're still developing the game, and though we're making progress every week it will take some more time before it's ready. I assure you that we will make it easy to understand how to play the game when that day comes. Unfortunately I cannot tell you when that day will come as we're doing this in our free time and as we cannot be sure how much time we've got for the game it's not possible to make any estimates.

  6. The game is going to be natively playable on Linux-based OSs, that's one of the core features (y)

Our aim is to have it natively playable on Windows, Linux and probably Mac too.

Since there are so many different Linux-based OSs we can of course not promise that it'll work perfect on all at release time, but we'll try our best to get it working on as many systems as possible.

  7. Not sure, but I'd say that it's kinda hard to learn the basics, as it doesn't really look like most other programs, but that it gets easier after a while. I'd suggest that you take a look at the excellent video tutorials which are available around the 'net as that gives a more visual understanding of what's going on. Pictures can only tell so much you know :(

Also, one thing which is important to understand regardless of which program you use is that you need some basic understanding of art, the program doesn't do everything for you. I hope you're already aware of this, but I know that it's sometimes easy to think like that.

  8. I'm sorry that we haven't done more to get it working, but I'm afraid we've had other things to prioritize. I don't know much about how to fix it, but I'll look into it someday soon unless someone else takes care of it, can't promise much though as I don't want to destroy anything. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge of how to solve this will have some time to look into it.

  9. If you're adventurous you can click "View New Posts" in the upper right corner and change "Get active topics for:" from "today" to "this year" and you'll get a listing of everything that has happened. I doubt that you really would like to do that but anyway =)

    Welcome back!

  10. Thanks for your nice words :P

I do have to disagree with one of the things you said though, while it's true that we're not paid I wouldn't say that there is nothing to gain from being a part of the team. Though I've just been a part of the team for a few months I've already learned a lot, and in some ways most likely grown as a person. So, while it's partly true that we don't have much more than the satisfaction of creating a wonderful game and being a part of such a great team :( there is a lot to gain on a more personal level.

  11. Well, while I'm not the best person to write about it I just had to say something :( The editor does already have some cinematic features AFAIK, and was used to produce the video released earlier this year. And while I don't know whether we will add some mythic units it will be easy to do so for anyone with the necessary skills. (More or less modelling and the ability to add some stats etc)

In general the game will be possible to turn into a completely different game by someone with the right skills, after all the other game project of WFG, The Last Alliance, will use the same engine as 0 A.D. for a game set in Middle Earth and with more RPG tendencies.
