  1. Well, let me see if I get your question right, you ask if we're doing this for free, making a full freeware RTS game, and as a hobby, and if we're few?

I can't see any money coming, and actually would refuse it if I would, so that's one.

Remembering what I read in the Desing Document and seeing how much of it already done, yes it's going to be a full freeware RTS game.

Hmm, I do have a real life outside of WFG, so at least for me it's a hobby. Can't be totally sure about everyone though, some people are getting things done at an amazing speed and quality

And while I don't remember everyones names I do know we're not many. Over the years there have been quite a few people working on this game though, so it depends on how you look at it I guess :(

Seems as if I can answer yes to all of your questions :P So now you ought to be impressed (y)

Actually I'm impressed with what we've accomplished so far too. (y)

  2. Well, as the game is not ready to be released anytime soon you might be good enough to contribute in texturing too :P

Thanks for the offer, and I hope you remember it when it's time to get it translated (y):( And yeah, we're hoping that the game will be translated into a lot of languages. Some languages might be covered in the team, depending on where the people are from, but we will have to rely on the community to provide the other.

  3. Welcome to the forums!

    1. Depends on what we got (at least I think so, but you'll have to wait for someone from the Art Department to tell more about that)

    2. DDS (but yeah, I'll let the Art Department talk about that, I just repeat what I've seen written)

    3. No, at least not at the moment.

We are about to make it easier for people to contribute to the games development however, so stay tuned on how you may be a part of this great adventure. :(

  4. We have something in the works which will make it easier for people to participate and help us develop the game, until that time you're free to post an application in our Applications forum which can be found at: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showforum=306 .

While we could send you an email just to find out who you are I doubt that it's a good idea. We are after all looking for people who can contribute to the game without having someone watching their every step, and being able to send in/post an application is as far as I can tell at least a better way to tell if someones ready to work for us than us making the contact. This does of course not mean that we won't make any effort to help you get started or in your work here if you'd join us, just that we need to have some kind of first step to determine if someone's ready to work with us. We're a small team and can't afford spending time getting someone started on the team unless we can be at least relatively certain that they will stay with us.

I don't mean to scare you away though, just want you to think twice :P Looking forward to a "real application" :(

  5. Hmmm, while I'd most definately say that everyone on the team is very talented I'm sure that everyone have learned a lot from the others and the time on the team. No one can be professional the first day they try to do something. Perhaps you don't know much now, but you can always learn enough to get started and then get a part of the team and learn even more. (Now that involves a lot of learning, which may sound hard/boring/not interesting at all, but it is :P )

As have been hinted at before we're planning on ways to get the community more involved in helping us make the game, and also providing possibilities for those without huge portfolios to take part (as if that's the only thing we're looking for even today :( ) But I won't tell much more as that would spoil the surprise for you all (y)

  6. How much is the game finished? Well, there are others who can/have given good estimates on that question, but one thing I do now is that you don't want to play the game yet. You might think you want to, but if you'd try and play it for a while you'd just get disappointed as it's not finished yet. For a while it's marvelous to see it in all it's glory, but when you look closer/encounter a bug you realize that there are things to do before it's finished, and while things are progressing there is no real way to know dates etc. Not only is it hard to know when people will have time (or when new people will come as people will move on from the project due to changed circumstances in their lives, like getting a job, a family, finding they have more interest in another hobby etc) but to make things worse :P most, if not everyone on the team are perfectionists. That will make the finished game better, but will also lead to the release date getting later as perfect takes time.

Hmm, that word soon is a perilous word. For example, Jesus said that he'd come back soon 2000 years ago, but though we are some Christians in the team we're sure not Christ, so I can promise it will be sooner than that at least :( And while I don't have any info on a alpha/beta I repeat what I've said before, we do have something on the way which will, well, without wanting to give away any details I can say that it will give a bit more insight into the game/developing of the game for a select few...

  7. You're most likely right, but since it's my birthday tomorrow (or today even, it's past twelve :P ) I'm going to be bold and suggest another alternative. I don't have any kind of proof nor much knowledge about this people and it's customs at all, but I imagine war can make things happen which wouldn't have otherwise, for example a shepherd marrying the daughter of a rich landowner.

Not as much due to his abilities as a shepherd of course, but rather due to what had happened during the war (unless the marriage was before, in that case I don't even have a hypothetical objection :( ) Perhaps he was given land/a title because of the things he'd done and then it wouldn't be as surprising an event.

  8. It isn't :D

Hmm, the biggest is hard to find unless you know it's there, but I'm sure that the smallest would be even harder, can't see them though so I guess they're not in. On the other hand I think they would be practically impossible to see in this scene, so I might be missing them :) :)

  9. Welcome!

And to clarify that last thing, it's not really the kick-off of 0 A.D. we're waiting for, that would have been some years ago when the first steps were taken. What these forums are waiting for is ..................

Hmm, not sure, but I'm certain there's gonna be a lot more life here when the game's released, it's gonna take some time 'til we get there. (After all we're "but" hobbyists and when you think of the actual time spent programming etc I don't think we've spent that much time. I read somewhere that a commercial game takes about 2,5 years to complete, I'm sure that number varies a lot, depending on the complexity of the game etc, but it's an ok example. That is with people working full time, and probably having a lot of experience, not doing it in their spare time and learning as they go. And I'm not wanting to criticise someone or turn down your expectations, 'cause this is going to be a great game when it's finished, but just want to encourage you to be patient :))

Again, welcome to our forums, and I hope you'll stay with us to the bitter end huge success time when this wonderful game is finished. :)

  10. We're aware of the problem and sorry that it doesn't work, we recently changed servers and that's the most likely cause. It's great to see that you keep trying, "endurance" and determination are some of the most important assets in a project like this :) , and if you don't get an answer soon please write here or perhaps even better, send an email to the Art Department leader, Michael aka Mythos_Ruler ( michael@wildfiregames.com )

  11. That was funny :):D A kind of an inside joke for all who are at least remotely interested in history (And well, that should be everyone in this community AFAIK)

But somehow it occures to me that that isn't exactly what he meant by personality :):D

  12. Of course you can make some banners, and as I said before we can't really stop you, nor do I think we would if we could (am I getting repetitive or what :D ) but on the other I'm not sure about our view on you using official 0 A.D. images in your sigs. :) As long as they're used to promote 0 A.D. and you don't claim that you've made them I can't see why we would not "allow you" to do so however. I'm not 100% sure about this though, so if you want to be on the safe side I suggest you ask nicely :)

  13. First, while I'm not familiar with TWC I'm fairly sure there is a big difference, a difference which really affects the amount of activity there related to the activity here: There are games to play and while there is a game in development here that's only enough to draw a small amount of interest. We're of course glad to have you here, and without your interest our work would sure be less inspiring, but we're not really surprised that we don't generate the same buzz as one/several already finished games.

Second, while we can't stop you (and I can't see why we would even if we could) from "getting more aggressive" :) promoting the game and community, I would suggest that you wait a while since we do have some small surprises up the road which will help draw more interest to the game and community...

As for whether we'll set up a "community PR department", I'll leave that for someone else to comment on.

  14. I don't have a clue about how to actually solve this problem, but one thing you might try is to put the file in the folder where the main program is. (C:Program\Photoshop or whatever it is) Hopefully someone with more Photoshop knowledge can help, but until then it's at least something to try. :)

  15. Not sure about whether it will be possible or not to turn off the display of the lines. And in ordinary gameplay I'd say they're really good to have, as there are a lot of factors depending on the territories, they're not as intrusive in-game either. In a static screenshot they certainly captures your interest though.

Scenarios and such might be different of course, but unless you have to be able to build Civic Centers (or possibly buildings at all since the number of buildings possible to build will be related to the territories, but I'll leave that for someone else to clarify) in the scenario it's just to delete all settlements in the scenario editor, as the territories are made up around them and thus: no settlements --> no borders :D

And of course, great picture Michael :) :)

  16. "Made the sky blue" :)

That sounds like quite an accomplishment.

(Why don't we take and paint the sky blue, if me can make a game we can do anything :D )

A bit more serious note though: It's sure interesting to see from where we're coming, the project has sure come a long way, though we're obviously not done yet. :)

  17. Thanks for all the kind words, and we'll work to get that forum back :)

There is no possibility to get it yet, and it would certainly be nice to be able to look into the future and know when the game is ready, not only to be able to answer you, but also be more certain when making plans and such. In reality it's unfortunately too hard to tell though, there are just too many things we don't know. (When people have time, and while it migth seem like a good idea to add an enormous amount of people that would most likely just take up a lot of time managing everything, so we'll have to let things take the time they do. When it's finished it's sure going to be a great game though, most people on the team are perfectionists, if not all :) Only problem with that is that it makes things take some time)

  18. Funny stuff ;)

    Keep them coming :)

( I hope I didn't sound to mean or something, if that's the case then I'm sorry since it was just meant as a fact :D We like that you're interested though, so don't let any dead ends stop you :P )

(And when it comes to software there are many good and free graphics programs, so don't let any don't-have-Photoshop feelings stop you, or something :);) )
