  1. 1. The Valar do not feature in TLA. At most specific Valar will be units accessible only through the map editor.

    2. There will be official scenarios I'm sure based in Umbar, Near Harad, Rhûn, and perhaps the journey from Cuivienen, but if you're talking about Far Harad or the very far east, I'm afraid those will have to be user-made scenarios. We will release what Tolkien wrote, and since he didn't give us material for the very far east and very far south, we won't have official scenarios based there.

    But in terms of first age and second age - again, we're limited to what Tolkien wrote of course. We can have scenarios where you must travel west as the Quendi, and Morgoth's hunters and servants assail you, etc. Or we could do the human migration from Hildórien This could include the east. Perhaps a scenario in which you play as the Easterlings of Uldor or Bór and you have to cross Ered Luin to join your respective side. And in the second age there is ample material for Harad and Umbar to include the south.

    Gondor and Arnor are in the game as one civilization representing both. So for example in a random third age map you'd only be able to choose "realms in exile".

    However, a scenario designer can easily just use the realms in exile civ to make his own civ in the editor and call it either gondor or arnor (or for that matter he can make it even more specific and call it cardolan, rhudaur, lebennin, or ethir anduin!) and customize it for his scenario. So in scenarios you will be able to play as either gondor or arnor, and even more specific divisions of the third age Dúndedainic kingdoms.

    Well I think that implies we all would adhere to a specific religious code, which we don't. What is sin to you is not necessarily sin to others.

    I think everyone here has a sense of vision and 'civic duty' - by that I mean everyone here feels they can and should voice their opinions and make things happen for the community.

  3. That looks pretty nice. I'm not a fan of the trebuchets though, and I'd also suggest removing them.

    Remember that the walls were not perfectly circular until the 5th level of the city. For the previous levels there was a 'shoulder' of the city that connected to Mount Mindolluin. If you're not sure of what I mean I can furnish a drawing or something.

    Have you practiced a lot of texturing recently, Black_Hawk? It'd be nice to see this model textured. Then perhaps rendered in bryce with an environment (or a better program and then made into a composite image with photoshop.

    Yeah, nor the Pelennor fields. I've tried (fruitlessly) to help these people out at AoK Heaven by giving them maps, descriptions, chronologies, etc but they seem to not really care :/ (a negative aspect of the commercialization of Middle-earth i fear)

    My brother's AoK mod should hopefully allow designers to be more purist and think about the books before they design a map.

  5. I'll comment on this more, but it's known from one of Tolkien's letters that he and C.S. Lewis collaborated on ideas of 'fantasy tales' and that C.S. Lewis was to adopt "space travel" (not as in outer space, but as in simply physical travel :)), and professor Tolkien was to adopt "time travel".

    Also, if you've read The Lost Road (one of my favorite stories Tolkien wrote ;)) You'll see that Tolkien indeed writes of time travel and uses language as the 'time machine'. Middle-earth was never another "place", just another "time", a forgotten time, with forgotten languages, kingdoms, peoples, and legends....much like the anglo-saxons were.

    Um Prophet:

    Man muss "Ich will Deutsche sprechen." sagen.

    Um akya:

    Man buchstabiert das "Auf Wiedersehen"

    Wieder + sehen (again (later) + to see, so literally the phrase can translate to "Until we see again or something, hence "goodbye")

  7. Well "Noldor" is pronounced as it looks, but it comes from:

    Ngolo- wise, lore , and that Ng sound sometimes is written as Ñolo

    The Ng sound (one of Tolkien's favorites) was also written as n with the end of the 'n' looking like a 'j'. Kind of hard to describe. It's pronounced like the ng at the end of "King" or "Ring".

    So I guess it's proper to give "Noldor" that kind of sound given its etymological origin.
