  1. If you don't remember, about a year ago there was a thread on how to remove Windows Messenger. I made a very basic utility that removed it but just recently a made an advanced .exe that removes it. It also has a feature for downloading the new MSN Messenger which it does itself and then runs it so that you can install the new version on your computer. I am most impressed with it and i have tested it countless times. Anyway, here is a link to it:

    New Version 1.1

    http://www.angelfire.com/electronic2/megas...redirection.htm (119 KB)

The actual location of the file is here but angelfire doesn't allow downloading directly from other sites so i had to create the above link that redirects you to the file.

Any comments would be nice including suggestions. Thank you for taking a look at it if you do.

  2. That happens to me all the time when i view lage sets of avi files totaling several gigs. I get the dialogue saying that explorer has crashed and whether it would like me to send a message or not send(clearly not send anything to Microsoft), but i notice that explorer hasn't crashed, so i simply move the window off the screen and continue working. Apparently explorer is confused about whether or not it has actually crashed.

Remember kids, if explorer crashes, ctrl+alt+delete ---> end process (explorer.exe)---> run ----> explorer.exe and you are good as new. I call it a pseudo reboot and it works well because none of my other running programs are affected.

  3. I had several black widows in my hose reel. I took these pictures a few years ago with my old camera so they are out of focus but you can get the general idea. I also took a movie its movement as it walked through the jar. Their bites can be deadly, so if you are bitten by one of these you probably want to go to the hospital. If you have an allegic reaction or are a child, their bites can result in death. In the picture of the black widow in the jar, you can see her fangs and they are huge. They call them black widows because once they mate with the male spider, they sometimes but rarely bite them and eat them, hence the name the Black Widow.

The Black Widow here appears gray in color because i sprayed poison all over it, so the gray stuff on it is poison, my way of saying thanks for being poisonous.

  4. Yeah Lorain, i installed Red Hat on my Dell computer. It had a dual boot and was able to load both Windows and Linux. I had two drives. One drive was an 80GB and was my primary Windows boot drive. The second drive i had was a 200GB drive that i partitioned into 15GB for linux and then i used the rest as a slave drive for windows. It booted fine, the only thing that made me mad was that i couldn't default the boot to windows, so if i didn't pay attention and quickly select windows XP, then the boot loader would automatically boot linux which i didn't use much because they didn't have good drivers for my sound card and my printer. That is my story. So to answer your question, yes, it is possible to create a dual boot on a Dell system. I would know. I have done it.

I bet there was a way to default the boot loader to windows but i just never figured out how.

  5. I think you are thinking that it is difficult to build a computer. Dnas, it isn't. I have built three computers and it isn't hard. The hardest part is installing the OS and getting it to detect the hardware. That is the hardest part. Took me a week to get all the OS bugs worked out. It wouldn't detect my SATA drive and i finally found a program that enabled the OS to read it. For parts i would use:

    http://www.newegg.com

    My second choice would be:

Both have excellent prices and product selection. I bought all my parts from newegg except my processor. Newegg delievered it to my house in less than 24 hours from the time of order and didn't require a signature even though it had about $800-$900 of computer hardware in the box. :P

Do you know what kind of computer hardware is good? You said you are clueless so i am assuming not. If you have any questions on what to get, IM using MSN. My contact email address is in my profile.

I can help you pick out the parts and will work with you. I can also answer any hardware questions such was what is ECC, PCI Express, what is the difference between the different processing cores, do Mhz matter, and what is difference between SATA and ATA and other questions like that. I won't bother answering them all now since I will have to type up an essay and i don't know what you already know. Gladly help. B)

  6. It depends. There should be an uninstall program in the program files folder. If you already deleted it, to clean the registry delete the registry keys that are associated with the game located in:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software

There should be folders in there that were made by the game. They might not be the game. For example, i have Medal of Honor installed but the registry key that is associated with Medal of Honor is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EA Games\Medal of Honor Pacific Assault

It is in EA Games because that is who made the software.

The other place to look is for applications that start up in the when the computer boots. These can be edited by clicking start -->Run --> msconfig.exe

Once you run this, click the tab that says "Startup". Don't mess with the others. Once you are in there be careful. Some of the applications that start up are drivers. Look at the directory of the application that is started. If you see an .exe and you don't know what it is, google it and see what it is. I have a neat program that scans processes for possible spyware or viruses. If you are interested, IM me on MSN or PM me here. It would be easier to IM me on MSN though. My msn email is in my profile. Good luck. B)

  7. What did we learn? To be honost with you, i don't think we learned much. The only thing we learned was that it is bad to commit genicide. What we already knew was that a war is a great way to jump-start an economy. I hate to be bold, but it's true. The war started as a direct result of the Great Depression and Europe, the U.S., Soviets, and Japan turned into war machines to create a war that jump-started their economys'. Once the war was over, the U.S. had a new labor force (women), Europe/Soviets also had a new labor force (women), Europe now could build new factories and warehouses and the factories used to make war equiptment were now used to make other things. The Japanese needed more resources which they got but lost. It seems to me that the world just wanted a quick and easy way out of economic depression and hardship and that is exactly what it found, a shortcut to economic success. How do you motivate a country to industrialize and work extremely hard? Easy, you tell them that if they don't work hard, they won't win the war and they will be killed or they will be forced into supression by other countries. That motivates people. The Soviets used this technique in addition to their 5-Year Plan. I hate to be bold, but it is the truth. B)

  8. The easiest way would be to open it in word, (I have word 2003) and then to save it as a new version. Under save options, Word can save it as:

    Word 2.x for Windows

    Word 4.0 for Macintosh

    Word 5.0 for Macintosh

    Word 5.1 for Macintosh

and many others including DOS versions of Wordperfect and such.

If you need it converted i would use word. If you don't have it, then post it on the forum(if it isn't private information) and then one of us will gladly convert it for you. :)

  9. CrazyThumbs,

Contact me on MSN Messenger and i can help you out. If anyone has any computer problems, contact me on MSN. My MSN name is on my profile so you can contact me that way. If you do this, you are much more likely to get the problem fixed since i can help you in real time. My family lives on Long Island by the way.

  10. Dnas, I would not upgrade that computer. It has one foot in the grave. I would not do it because upgrading just isn't worth it at this point for a computer that is that slow and old (no offense). I would get a brand new cheap 300 dollar computer that wouldn’t have any conflicts with the newer operating systems, it wouldn’t have old hardware, and it would probably seem infinitely faster. Plus, that computer is so old, there is no guarantee that if you install more RAM or upgrade another problem won't arise. That is my suggestion. I hope you get the problem solved. :)

  11. Yes Desmond, that is easier, except that didn't answer his question :). If you need to upload anything other than a image, you can't do it on image shack and image shack has a 1MB image limit.

    Clodhopper

    1. Sign into you account.

    2. Click on the left where it says "Web Shell"

    3. You will see the shell come up and it will have directory trees.

    4. You can upload the images to the main folder, but i would personally add them to the folder called /images

    5. To add them to the folder called /images, click /images and then click right above it on the link that says Open right after the word "Directories:".

    6. The page will refreash. Now you are in the folder called /images. To upload a pic scroll down and find the box that is right below the text "Select a file to upload: (Learn More)". Then click browse to find the picture or file on your computer that you want to upload. Then click the upload button. It may take several min to upload based on the image or file size. Sometimes things that are large can take 10-15min to upload, so don't panic if it appears the page isn't refreashing. To upload multiple things at once, click the link titled, "Upload multiple files" which is located right under the upload button. There you will see 10 boxes with browse buttons next to them and you can select up to 10 files to upload to their server at once.

I hope that helped clodhopper but if you need more help feel free to post here or contact me on MSN.

  12. What is the registry key that contains all the information on what programs are currently installed and where their uninstallers are located? This key is used for the Add/Remove programs feature.

This should be easy for you registry people out there, like meh.

    :)

  13. I can get you past the passwords. By-passing passwords is so much fun. I totally h4xored some email accounts and other things with my password skillz. I have a special program that will bypass your problem Tim, the only thing is i have to know what OS you have installed on your old machine.

  14. This is a modification i found. I then made a more user friendly program that modded the registry. The mod i compiled and put together will edit the registry to allow your MSN Messenger 7.0 to accept all incoming file types. It will no longer give you those anoying messages saying that it automatically rejected a file that may be harmful, like those harmful .mp3 files and other potentially malicious media files. :) The program that you can download below will stop this microsoft anoyance. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as i enjoyed putting it together. :)

  15. I have done this before. Simply use the windows recovery consule. What you do is find someone with a winxp boot disk, it doesn't matter, then insert it into his computer and boot it. You should get an option to start windows recovery console. Using another computer copy the file ntoskrnl.exe to a floppy. Then insert the floppy into his computer while the DOS style recovery consule is running. Next type in:

    copy A:\ntoskrnl.exe C:\Windows\System32\

The floppy drive should make some noise and it should copy onto the hard drive. Then reboot the computer and if the only problem is the small application, then it should boot without a problem. This happened to me once. One of the .dlls was missing in the system32 folder and winlogin.exe refused to start without it. I then copied the same .dll from my sister's computer onto a floppy and did the exact thing i told you to do above. Once i did that my OS booted up and i never had a problem. It turned out an old program that i had installed renamed the .dll to something else and that is what cause the problem. Good Luck.

  16. Dnas, if you make a prime factorization program, please post it here, it would be most helpful for me as well. I also have a TI-83 Silver Edition. If any of you have any interesting programs for the TI-83 or other similar calculators, feel free to post them.

    Thanks guys :)

  17. Always use my browser to read my mail. There are no security risks when you use your browser plus it is one less excutable open since i just use a tab on firefox to view it. Hotmail doesn't seem to work with anything other than IE. I use that often but it is easy to navigate and nothing is actually downloaded to your computer. The best is how i can't get viruses because i have to click a series of links to actually download and then open the virus. This is quite the opposite of outlook where some viruses automatically run when you use the preview window to read the message.
