  1. My sole solace is that the prices are pretty low. If people can't be bothered to Google something before buying, say to make sure it is a good product and find out where else it might be available, they deserve to be fined a few pounds sterling. As long as we keep offering 0 A.D. for free, nobody is going to make a real killing. It is kind of hard to compete with free.
  2. We on the 0 A.D. development team have just learned that copies of 0 A.D. on physical media, such as CDs and DVDs, are being sold on eBay, by independent stores, unrelated to us. This is probably perfectly legal under the GNU General Public License (GPL), which 0 A.D. is released under. The license clearly states that people are free to make copies of 0 A.D. and distribute them for any price or no price, as long as they meet certain conditions, such as including the source code or indicating where it is available. (We have not inspected these CDs/DVDs closely to verify they do meet all the conditions. So the distributors might be operating under the GPL, or not. We don't know for sure.) However, in either case, we wish to emphasize that 0 A.D. is available for free download and always will be. You do not have to buy it from anywhere. The latest version to date is Alpha 10, available here. Alpha 11 is due within a few days. Thanks for listening!
  3. Steam seems like a great distribution platform for 0 A.D. when it is finished. Right now, however, Putting 0 A.D. on a platform like Steam at this stage may create the impression that it is a ready game and disappoint many players. (We already have received many complaints about lag, for example, and we would rather sort that out before inviting the whole world to play.) In order to improve the speed and quality of development, at this point we would rather attract game developers than members of the general public, and that is how we are focusing our marketing efforts. To appeal to this crowd, for example, we try to release often and show steady progress in development, and publicize 0 A.D. in relevant niche blogs, such as the SourceForge blog. We are interested to know if the community has any ideas how to further support this effort.
  4. For the release announcement: What do you need to do to switch them on?
  5. Lion.Kanzen, that is what the "report" button does.
  6. Rest assured we are aware of 0 A.D.'s performance problems and seeking ways to alleviate them. Performance suffers particularly from the pathfinding and AI components of the game. The AI is under active development and will show some improvements in Alpha 11. Unfortunately, pathfinding development has been on hiatus for a few weeks, but we hope to have better news on this front for Alpha 12.
  7. Hi, KingMoo! Welcome! Thanks for your kind words. They are such a pleasure to read. You are welcome to stick around and perhaps make some friends to play with
  8. "Serene" is a good word for many parts of the Netherlands! But there were also vibrant, exciting parts, especially in Amsterdam.
  9. We had a great time too! Thanks for hanging out with us and showing us around. And you are always invited to Israel, Egbert. You might find this website useful.
  10. Hi Luis! Thanks for your kind words! We will definitely try to keep the G+ page updated.
  11. These words are music to my ears. So great to hear this from a new(-ish) contributor. Two years ago we were afraid what might happen if key contributors would disappear but now we seem to have built a more durable system of development.
  12. Hi, Peter. What kind of documentation contributions did you have in mind for 0 A.D.?
  13. Back from the NL, had a wonderful time. Egbert/Eggbird promised to upload pics to this thread. Watch this space...
  14. It combines the best of both. A full answer will be included in the Alpha 11 release notes.
  15. Having such a great time in the Netherlands. Going to het grachtenhuis today.

I remember some members of the Wikimedia community were talking about moving the Wikimedia servers out of the U.S. in the wake of the SOPA/PIPA bills to a "more free" country, but they reasoned that the legal situation in the U.S. is actually quite convinient for free culture. In the worst case, if someone says "you used a large deal of my textures" then development can continue as we replace some textures. I remind you that the codebase, the models, the music etc. are all original works.
  17. I did it for you, apparently only moderators can edit titles. (I think that is silly.)
  18. Some foods from the plant kingdom, such as soy and quinoa, have complete protein; You can also achieve complete protein by combining legumes and nuts. (Source)
  19. (The correct title is "This is how the game actually looks like." )
  20. I agree, switching between songs would be annoying. So I think you should stick to one song, but just make sure to change between shots based on the beats of the song. I think this video may help explain the idea. Even if you use a different video editing program, here is a good example from 1:28 onwards:
  21. Very pretty and well done! Way to go! I would like some more shots that are further away from the ground, because that is the usual POV of the player in 0 A.D. I would also cut the video shorter, and try to time the transitions between shots to the music. Also, I suggest using pure music tracks, without sound effects.
