Good question! @Dakara
I think that to really use the funds effectively, we would have to develop a common vision for the project, and then that would serve as a basis for the budgetary process.

I am wondering if the system requirements need to be updated for A24?

Hello!
I'd like to replace our dedicated server again. Our current server is having weird slowdowns, which I can attribute to harddisk problems. Ideally, I'd have the datacenter replace them both, but that's a hassle that takes up a lot of time and downtime. Plus, we can get a little better hardware for a little cheaper price, 58 euros per month instead of 60 for server with a little newer CPU. No setup fees, only extra costs are maybe around 30 euros because we'll be paying for two servers while I migrate (rougly 2 weeks).
Can I proceed? :-)
I vote in favor.
What do you think, @feneur?

As you can see in the graph 0ad owns approximately 35k euros. There was 865,.28 euro in a Flattr account, but that got absorbed in the bigger SPI account we have.
About 35k USD which are about 32k Euros.

In the interest of transparency, the Wildfire Games team would like to report on its finances as of 2020-01-01. In 2019, 0 A.D. had funds in two places:
- A legacy account on Flattr, a Sweden-based microdonation provider.
- Funds earmarked for the project and held in trust by US-based non-profit organization Software in the Public Interest, Inc. (hereafter “SPI”);
Flattr Legacy Account
In the beginning of 2019, we had 865.28 EUR as well as approximately 2 USD in our Flattr account. At our request, SPI helped us withdraw the portion of funds that were in EUR in 2019-02. This portion of the Flattr funds is now part of the SPI earmark for 0 A.D. (see below). Only the latter portion, that was in USD, remained on Flattr. Since sums under 10 USD cannot be withdrawn from Flattr, and the balance is not likely to reach that threshold anytime soon, the Treasury Committee decided to delete the account and let Flattr take the remaining funds. This completes the consolidation of 0 A.D.'s assets and prevents problems down the road. The Flattr legacy account is now closed.
SPI Earmark for 0 A.D.
As of 2020-01-01, the 0 A.D. earmark is USD 34,970.84 USD (Source: SPI Treasurer’s Report). This grand total includes the Flattr funds, which made up about a quarter of the income for 2019 (926.61 USD out of 4384.99 USD). Taken together, this represents a small increase in 0 A.D.'s assets from previous years, and shows that the project's finances have been stable over time.
Concluding Remarks
The 0 A.D. project finances are managed by the Treasury Committee: Erik (“feneur”) and Aviv (“Jeru”).
We need you! We invite members of the 0 A.D. community to volunteer on the committee and help us put the funds to good use.
We also welcome your questions, comments and suggestions.

QuoteWe're having some hardware issues with our server for Wildfire Games (again). Best option is to rent a newer one and migrate. Shouldn't cost more monthly, but there probably will be some one-time setup fee of around 70 euros probably.
I vote in favor of approving a one-time setup fee of up to 100 euros.
What do you say, @feneur?

I approve as well.
I will forward this request to SPI as soon as possible.

Please see the discussion here.
TL;DR: We work with a fiscal sponsor called "Software in the Public Interest" (SPI). That makes life easier for us in many ways, because they handle bureaucratic matters for us (e.g., taxes). But we can only accept donations in the ways they specify. And Liberapay is not part of those.

That is happening regardless however.
Then that is a matter for the team to decide how to regulate.

For 0 A.D. to receive recurring donations via Patreon? I need confirmation from SPI that this is an acceptable way for them to handle donations for 0 A.D.
I can ask, but I must warn you that the answer will probably be: "No, we will only accept donations using the methods detailed on our website."

For 0 A.D. to receive recurring donations via PayPal? Nothing. This option is already available.

@Jeru Can you ask SPI whether a monthly income is acceptable ?
I think it is, because if you click here:
http://spi-inc.org/projects/0ad/
And then on "Donate," you get a form with an option that says "Make this a monthly donation".

QuoteApologies for the delay. I'm working with Flattr to verify the account so we can withdraw the funds. I should have this done in the next few days.

I discussed Patreon (and Liberapay) with @Jeru: the main limiting factor is SPI's ability to handle the money when it comes in frequent and small amounts. The one-time donations we get already take a lot of time to get to us, so we can't overwhelm SPI's treasury with frequent transactions.
IIRC that was Liberapay's problem with its own payment processor;
My concern is that SPI doesn't work with Patreon (yet). It can accept small (and perhaps recurring) donations through PayPal, for example. No problem.

I would actually suggest that individual developers set up semi-official Patreons themselves, that way it wouldn't complicate things for SPI, and it could probably help make it more apparent that the patreons would be helping an actual human being and not just a faceless organization =)
It simplifies matters in one way but complicates matters in other ways. It can easily turn into a competition between developers for funds.
I don't think this bodes well for cooperation and collaboration on this project

In HTML there is a way to wrap in-line opposite-direction phrases in markup to get everything look the way it should.

If it is made online it should be in a wiki, either on the existing Trac system, on Github Pages (e.g., Jekyll docs) or on Read the Docs.

SPI Earmark for 0 A.D.
As of 2018-01-01, the 0 A.D. earmark is USD 31,283.40 USD (Source: SPI Treasurer's Report). Unfortunately, more recent data are still unavailable.
Other Accounts
On Flattr, we have EUR 885.28 and USD 1.96 available, which are approximately USD 1,025. We have asked SPI to help us consolidate these funds with the SPI earmark.
Total
In total, we have approximately 32,308.40 USD.
Concluding Remarks
The 0 A.D. project finances are managed by the Treasury Committee: Erik (“feneur”) and Aviv (“Jeru”). Earlier this year, Adarash ("MishFTW") stepped down from the committee after almost four years of service. Thank you so much for your contribution, Adarash! It's been a pleasure and a privilege to have you on the committee.
We welcome your comments and suggestions on the management of 0 A.D. finances.

Thanks for noticing and letting us know. We hope to make a new website soon, which will provide less detailed information about the factions and be easier to maintain.

Today I sent SPI another reminder about this task. It's been over a year since my original e-mail.

Unfortunately there is a USD 22 charge for outgoing wire transfers charged by SPI's international payment system, so it is best to minimize the number of transfers.
I suggest we reimburse one participant for the FOSDEM expenses and that person would then transmit the money to the other participants with their respective shares.

Will 0AD be released on steam?
in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Posted
SPI does work with a law firm but I don't know if they will help us in a timely fashion. (My experience has not been good in this respect.)
I'm not sure I would handle this using legal means anyway.
I would just write Steam and ask to take it down, and see what they say. I doubt that Valve would want to keep the game on their platform against the creators' wishes. That would be an unnecessary legal and PR risk on their side.
