ZeZar
Will there be a couple Uniqe (i dunno how to spell that one, (like in RoN)) or will all civs have different units, like in Empires: DotMW!?Or maybe all units are the same!? Wijitmaker
Unique units? All the units for all the civs will be unique. Not like AoK with their Japanese knights that look like they just walked out of a castle in France
Black Op
I think he means a unique unit type, like an Aztec Eagle Warrior or an Persian War Elephant. Then again, I'm only familiar with the AOE series.
The_Avenger
Well, for 0AD, think of Starcraft. Or even AOM.
Wijitmaker
Yeah there are what you would call unique units. I think we are actually calling them 'super' units. But they will have unique traits that are only availible to those type of units. For example... the Persians have:Immortal - which is a good lightly armored unit with strong attackIndian War Elephant - Slow moving unit with lots of hitpoints... little skimmishers on the back throwing spears. Each civ will have 2-3 super units. ZeZar
Unique units? All the units for all the civs will be unique. Not like AoK with their Japanese knights that look like they just walked out of a castle in France So civs will have units the other civs dont have?? Thats what i ment!?
Marcus Petrius
I think it's a good thing you're moving towards the 'every unit should be unique' idea. And that might also take away the need to use colours on the uniforms of the units (well, you might add colours to the shields), which I think isn't really nice to see for some colour values. ZeZar
YES! No colors, just uniforms, couldnt have the same civ tho, but anyway!
Marcus Petrius
You could actually, it would just be hard to see which units are yours. (excluding the possibility of a standard bearer, because that really does nothing when your units are all engaged in 1-on-1 combat)
Ulysses S Griffin
colours are still needed imo, they just have to be shown in the right way, like instead of having obvious colour bands on the buildings you could have flags on the buildings with the colour on them, or have less obvious coloured things, like a painted cart or pottery next to the buildingbut i dont think "no colour" would work well with units, you just have to put the colour in the appropriate places. AoK and AoM are perfect examples of this. the colours were all put in the right places which made them easily recognisable, and didnt spoil the art of the units with too much blue for example. Marcus Petrius
Isn't the healthbar normally green yellow or red to indicate the health level? I think colouring it in a different colour would make the selection of healthy units less intuitive.
Ulysses S Griffin
man you replied fast (i edited my post a little, changed my mind)theres only one game that ive seen the health bar change colour when they get hurt, thaat game was RoNi prefer it like AoK where the green bar just gets replaced with red when units get hurt
Marcus Petrius
You're right, if the colours are right it can be done, but I don't want to see Greek soldier wearing bright pink tunics.
Mythos_Ruler
I love the Persian "immortals" unit. My Greeks hacked those "immortals" to pieces in every land battle of the Persian Wars. Muahahaaha.
Ornlu
Actually, "immortals" was a corrupt version of "companions".In Persian: Amrtaka = Immortal, Amrtakga = companionGreeks corrupted it so it got "immortal" instead .
Marcus Petrius
I was under the impression that they were named immortals because the units were never empty. As soon as they died there would be new soldier waiting to replace them.
Ornlu
That's a recently proved false theory. "Immortals" is simply a greek corrupt version .

Mythos_Ruler
So, are we sticking to the popular misconception, or the more historically accurate name for the "immortal" unique unit?
Artaxerxes
I'm glad to see that the Immortals will be featured in an RTS game.
The_Avenger
Civilisation has Immortals.
Marcus Petrius
But that's not an RTS. Not real time that is.
Ornlu
Mythos_Ruler, I think you should stick with "immortals", because that's how they are known nowadays.
Acumen
Mythos_Ruler, if you mean "Amrtaka", currently that's mentioned as part of their rollover text/history, but the unit is currently listed as Immortal because as pointed out it's easier for the layman to remember. Of course, anything could change at implementation depending on feedback.
