myconid
It's telling you that your graphics card is too old to use the GLSL shaders, so you need to disable them in the config. You need support for at least OpenGL 2.1/GLSL 1.2.

fabio
It looks someone commited them by accident and them someone other reverted it. You can remove your changes and update from svn, it should work. The game probably should check if GLSL 1.2 is available before really enabling them, even if they are enabled by a user. Jeru
thanks but how i can change it?I did it for you, apparently only moderators can edit titles. (I think that is silly.)
feneur
I did it for you, apparently only moderators can edit titles. (I think that is silly.)Apparently someone has changed it since you wrote that, now it's definitely set as allowed (One do need to use the "More Reply Options" though, which might not be apparent to everyone)
creaker
Hi guys! The same problem here. The buildings, trees and units are invisible. Only blue selection circles...One time I noticed a message 'failed to compile shader' and googled it and found this topic.I looked at config file but these three options (preferglsl, gentangents, smoothlos) already set to 'false'.Can anyone help to fix this problem?0 A.D. Alpha 12 / Gentoo / NVidia GeForce GTX 550Ti / NVidia proprietary driver installed here. Thanks in advance.
Pedro Falcão
You card is actually pretty good. Have you tried downloading newer drivers? Generally it solves the problem. Also, check this thread here: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16709 (might not be useful, but just to check...) creaker
Thanks for reply!I've updated driver from v.295.75 to v.310.32 but it doesn't helped. But I noticed warning in konsole output : "NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (Permission denied)."I've changed permissions to 777 for this file. After that I got new message: "NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidia0 (Permission denied)."So I did the same trick on this file also (chmod 777).Now all the units and buildings are visible.May be this info would helpfull for someone else. quantumstate
That doesn't sounds very safe. You have just given full access to those devices to anything on your machine. It might be worth looking for help somewhere else like a gentoo help forum.
leper
Try adding yourself to the video group. Instead of changing those permissions to something that could cause other issues in the long run.
creaker
leper, I did checked it: user already in video group.quantumstateIt looks like something wrong in game itself because of game requires access to these two devices for other users than the owner and group.Initially permissions was 660 for both of these files. Currently I set it to 666 (read-write without execution for all)
leper
It looks like something wrong in game itself because of game requires access to these two devices for other users than the owner and group. In order for programs that use the NVIDIA driver to work correctly (e.g.: X, OpenGL, and CUDA applications), the kernel module must be loaded, and the device files /dev/nvidiactl and /dev/nvidia[0-9]+ must exist with read and write permissions for any users of such applications. The nvidia driver readme says different. Are the /dev/nvidia* devices actually set to the video group? creaker
Yes, for these devices owner is set to "root" and group is set to "video"User that starts the game also listed in video group. It should be enough regardless other (non-video) users permissions (i.e. 660 should be enough). But I have not a units and buildings this case.P.S.I've changed permissions to 606 (group "video" blocked at all, no read-write-execute permissions for group) and game is works fine. So I guess that the problem not depends on listed the user in the group "video" or not. Edited February 27, 2013 by creaker
