Quacker
And there are different ways to accomplish this motion graphic, I am sort of apprehensive about pointing out any because I will probably not be implementing them and I don't want to suggest something really implausible.I would like that motion graphic to appear on some parchment or papyrus.Tell me what you want and I'll tell you if it can happen. Quacker
Rough Cut 3Imagine a moment in time that never was(On-screen: Time axis animation showing somehow that 1 B.C. is followed by 1 A.D. and that 0 A.D. is being added artificially).when six civilizations were each at their peak.(On-screen: Map of the 6 civs on parchment as in the Facebook page. Fade to in-game shots of various building sets & biomes.)Imagine the freedom to learn from a game, change it and share your creations.(On-screen: Gameplay shots, with overlays on the bottom fading in and out. First, logos of Windows, Linux and Mac and the words "cross-platform"; Next, logos of GNU and Creative Commons and the words "Free, open-source software").Gain experience in game development.(On-screen: Shots of the actor viewer, wireframes of buildings and units and then their textured versions, a shot of the pathfinding visualization etc.).Visit play0ad.com to contribute. (On-screen: Find Out How to Contribute at www.linkhere.com, possibly with YT annotations)0 A.D. - History is yours for the taking.(On-screen: 0 A.D. logo & motto. Secondary logos: WFG and the other stuff like GNU, CC, the operating systems) Edited February 16, 2011 by Quacker
Jeru
Thinking about something like this, where the black stuff is an ornamentation. Everything above the timeline fades in expanding from the bottom up.(VERY ROUGH DRAFT. I am aware this is ugly) Edited February 17, 2011 by Jeru
Quacker
Thinking about something like this, where the black stuff is an ornamentation. Everything above the timeline fades in expanding from the bottom up.Nice pic When you say "fades in expanding from the bottom up," do you mean like a wipe from the bottom to the top? (more elaboration=better )
Shield Bearer
You know, something like a black cloud sweeping over the thing and then some footage of the game...like in LOTR... thats my idea, Jeru may have something else
Jeru
I had another thought, of perhaps zooming into a timeline. Between the marks for "1 BC" and "1 AD", some greek ornamentation fades in. The zooming in continues to an extreme close-up of the ornamented timeline. When the black timeline occupies most of the screen, the 0 A.D. logo fades in as well.
Jeru
My other suggestion is that if we open with a timeline or some other metaphor as the first shot, we need to cut as soon as possible to in-game shots, and not continue with another shot of a map on parchment. Kimball
I like the zooming in idea, but instead of fading to a 0 A.D. logo, we'll work that in to the timeline itself and fade directly to game footage once the screen is all black. Pureon
You guys could also use my faction map if you think it'll work in the video.http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w73/purepics/0AD/0admap4.jpg
Quacker
Aviv, can you send me that 0AD and timeline that you already have worked up in whatever art program you use? jquac809 at gmail That way I don't have to recreate something that's already made.oh and vector = better, if you have it. Jeru
I'm interested in Rob's idea before we commit to a particular metaphor. Can you draw what you mean?
Quacker
Regardless, they both use the same elements - the 0AD logo, the timeline piece. Changing it around is cake, but if you've already got those art pieces, I'll have something to work with given any idea or implementation. Quacker
Whipped this up quickly using the logo from a Google search: Is this the idea you were going for? The textured BG doesn't show up too well from the hammered h.264, but whatev. You get the idea.(aside: anyone remember ? I always thought it was the best...good ole Jason whipping it up, if I remember?) Edited February 18, 2011 by Quacker

Jeru
Yes, I would just change the scale to be more precise (2 B.C., 1 B.C., 1 A.D., 2 A.D. in equal distances to demonstrate the point).Nice job!

Jeru
It used to be "History is Yours for the Taking" but over the past 2 years or so we have been using "A Free, Open Source Game of Ancient Warfare".

feneur
Sweet. Would it be immensely harder to make the middle area go from nothing to the size it is now? To have it expand, so that it at first shows 1BC right next to AD1 and then, well, let me try to show you instead, a picture might not be worth a thousand words, but at least a few (Note, I'm not sure this is what Aviv et al wants, it's just an thought on how to emphasize things.) Quacker
Looking good Quacker! Thanks man.So, sticking with this basic idea, then? I'm gone till Monday, out of town. Keep the ideas flowing, and if we can get more visual mock-ups on these ideas, I can make them into realities like the timeline idea.
