feneur
Sorry for the slightly rushed screenshots this time - please ignore the vase sticking out from one of the boats! As always, I have a question for the devs – Both the Celt and Hele docks are in pmd 3D format, is there a program that can convert these into dae or a more widely compatible 3D format? Some really nice screenshots there regardless of what you say about them The Celt dock is obsolete, will be a new one in the next Alpha which should be out very soon unless something unexpected happens. For converting files, see: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13290

Is there anything Ykkrosh can't do!

Aldandil
Sweet screenies, Pureon.
Mythos_Ruler
The Celt dock is MUCH better now, Pureon. Don't you worry. Cool boats man. Did you make them or port them over from AOE3? They looks kinda like the canoes for the natives.
Pureon
Lol, ok I'm reassured Not a canoe - it's an ancient Greek boat, modelled and textured by myself.
Mythos_Ruler
Nice. Any chance we can use it? I'm thinking maybe the blue parts would be player color? We actually need a few odds and ends modeled and textured, but the last time I asked the community to help (the savanna trees), it fizzled out with no result. Pureon
Yep you can use that boat, if you think it's useful - it's fairly low-poly and the texture is 256. Edit: Great news - my greek/roman boat is now in Alpha 2! Edited October 17, 2010 by Pureon
plumo
Please keep the old docks in the editor as well: I want to make a celtic village on the waterside.
Mythos_Ruler
New dock -> old dock
plumo
1. Its definitely an improvement, Mythos. I cant find the old dock in the editor though. Would be nice as eyecandy / house on water. 2. Would it be possible to make a new prop ( or more) by using the wooden 'bridge' of the new and old dock ? So we can make docks with longer piers, or a village on water etc...Thanks

But keep the old one too, they look nice together!
Shield Bearer
i was just thinking, if 0AD had ages then the old dock would've been a perfect Age 1 dock and the new one for later ages
Mythos_Ruler
Yeah, I think Amish and I could make some piers for you.
plumo
Now that we 're talking about docks When i look at the Veneti ship , and read Caesar's description there are some differences."For their ships were built and equipped after this manner. The keels were somewhat flatter than those of our ships, whereby they could more easily encounter the shallows and the ebbing of the tide: the prows were raised very high, and in like manner the sterns were adapted to the force of the waves and storms [which they were formed to sustain]."I dont know whether Caesar is correct or the existing model should be adapted... Mythos_Ruler
Yeahhhhhh, the Celtic ships will be going through a revision too.
Pureon
What would Celtic ships/boats have looked like? Just being curious...
Mythos_Ruler
I'd think to put in easy terms, kinda "Viking"-esque, but heavier. With iron banding, heavier rigging. Thicker oak hulls.
SMST
Wait. A. Minute. You are not going to sacrifice the historical accurate "coracle" ships for "viking-esque" ships?
Mythos_Ruler
I didn't say that. A coracle is fine for a FISHING BOAT.... but for a large troop transport and combat platform? I think not.
SMST
Okay, you have a point there. Just don't make dragon boats or something.
Mythos_Ruler
Right. No dragon heads or any of that.
plumo
@SMSTCoracles were useful in calm waters like rivers etc.Veneti (modern Morbihan bay) built ships in which they sailed to England for example : Atlantic ocean: not so calm. So: raised prows and sterns: against heavy waves. Cassador_Chris
A question concerning the new Alpha 2:It mentions on 0 AD's website that the new alpha has basic formations available, and I see the new controls for setting formations, but my soldiers only take up the default formation. I've tried all the other formations, but none of them work. Are some of them supposed to?

They are greyed out to help you realize they're not active, but there because the area looked a bit empty without the icons.
