manowar
In Belfast we had a 0ad gaming session in a new esports cafe on Friday night. All newbie gamers so hoping some of them stick around. 9 2
leopard
This is a good Idea, I had this in mind but no idea how to make it happen in my place I don't know anyone
manowar
I am part of the local Linux user group and also know the guy who setup the gaming cafe so it worked out well to combine the two.
Norse_Harold
Hey, this is really cool. I'm guessing that the games only included players at the Internet cafe. I think it makes sense for newbies to have a sandbox environment for a while where they're not competing with skilled players. Later you can include people over the Internet in the games. It reminds me of the song lyric, "Here our soldiers stand / From all around the world / Waiting in a line / To hear the battle cry," from Manowar - Warriors of the World United. Before you try to make the games public, I think that some testing should be done with the cafe's Internet connection to determine whether it has carrier grade NAT, supports UPnP, etc. I can help with this if you provide advance notice.
manowar
Yes games were 1v1 using password protected games in the lobby. One issue we ran into was we could only register one user as registering multiple users on a single IP was blocked. We were lucky that one guy had 0ad on his laptop and we tethered the laptop to each users phone to register.

I think that the rate limit for registering account is one account per IP per hour. That's a good idea to use different Internet connections to register multiple accounts. Maybe using TOR would work, I use it to circumvent geoblocking; the slower speed shouldn't matter for registering.
Vantha
A last resort would always be to connect over the local network. With no nasty adress translations, enough IP addresses and close to zero network lag. Edited September 16 by Vantha
