This thread is for sharing and discussing information on architecture for the Han China civilization. While I'd like to see them included in the public mod, I think it's important they're based on reliable sources, and stark anachronisms should be avoided. (I had a quick look at the ROTE subforum, but didn't see a discussion on this specifically, hence why I'm starting a new thread.) Before posting whatever turns up in a quick search, please verify it's actually from the Han dynasty, and not from some later period: c. 1600–1045 BC Shang or Yin c. 1045–771 BC Western Zhou 771–481/403 BC Spring and Autumn 481/403–221 BC Warring States 221–206 BC Qin 202 BC–AD 9 Western or Former Han AD 25–220 Eastern or Later Han ... 618–907 Tang 960–1279 Song 1271–1368 Yuan (i.e. Mongol) 1368–1644 Ming 1644–1911 Qing (i.e. Manchu) Also, unless stated otherwise, all names are in hànyǔ pīnyīn, not in Wade-Giles or some other transcription system.

We're going to focus on the archaeological references for standard and hero helmets. And I see that the Chinese influence is present in other cultures. Defining what is a hero helmet in 0 A.D? It would be defined as a helmet that craftsmanship goes beyond the standard design for a simple soldier. by the way, this art is of excellent detail, even the skin reflects the intensity that a soldier should be in the Han dynasty.his face is burned either by the sun or by the intense northern weather. https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?796470-Han-Dynasty-Era-Armor I will leave a link with a backup copy on the web. In case anyone wants to read more. http://dragonsarmory.blogspot.com/2016/08/han-armor.html?m=1 Mirror TWC thread. https://archive.is/Hbjxn a movie that has an acceptable visual reference is "Red Cliff" Until middle of Han period, there seemed to be a general lack of helmets for the massed infantry. Despite the fact that most of the Chinese are familiar with the legacy of bronze plate helmets from as early as the Shang Dynasty (1600BC-1040BC) One explanation was that due to the fact that the Han engaged in an endless struggle mainly with steppe nomads who wore little to no armor, as such most of the combat would be of skirmishing nature~ thus most of the incoming harm would come from arrows rather than blows of halberds and spears as it was in the ages before. Mid- Late Han Commanders. As chariots became obsolete by the 1st Century BC, the armor of the officers became more flexible and also more voluminous, as they are more and more expected to wade in and fight in cavalry melees. Elaborate scale aventails began to appear to protect the general's neck and chins, pauldrons became longer in conjuncture with mailed sleeves, plate helmets began to appear as well (though the Chinese always had plate helmet as early as the Shang dynasty.)

The Council is both happy and proud to announce a brand new release!!! What is it?Rise of the East focusses on one faction the Chinese, during the Han Dynasty to be precise. With it's fancy theme this is surely one to mark! As a release name we've chosen Jīngzhì. This word means refinement. We've chosen this name because this mod is coming closer and closer to it's final state. What is new?The new release features a new building: the 'Government Center'. (modeled by Stanislas69) (See the big building in the top image) This buildings comes available in Phase III and features some technologies unique to the Han Chinese, to give you an edge to your opponents. The tech icons are made by niektb: Current features: - One playable faction: Han (No worries, the civilizations from the main game are still playable) - 2 Custom Random Maps: Loess Plateau and Gobi Desert (made by Spahbod) Who are we? The Council of Modders was formed up of two small modding teams and a few newcomers: Aristeia (about the bronze age) and Millennium A.D. (about medieval times) CoM aims to create a umbrella for all wannabee modders and help everyone needed and of course create their own projects, one of them is Rise of the East. Rise of the East was added to the project list in early-2014 after an agreement with Scion's lead Rob Kimball. That having said: We owe a large one to them for having paved the road for us to continue in their absence! How to:1. Unzip the download but leave the inner archive intact. 2. Place the unzipped folder into <installationdirectory>/binaries/data/mods. You'll see another folder there called 'public'. 3. Launch the game and enable the mod in Options>Mod Selection. Press 'Start Mods'. 4. Enjoy the mod! Download: Help needed! In the last few months some members retired leaving us shorthanded. We are currently especially in the need of artists. The Council is both happy and proud to announce a brand new release!!! Rise of the East What is it? Rise of the East focusses on one faction the Chinese, during the Han Dynasty to be precise. With it's fancy theme this is surely one to mark! As a release name we've chosen Sun Tzu. This person is renowned for writing The Art of War. We've chosen this name because of the huge changes with regards to the army (check the What is new? section). What is new? With the help of some Chinese historians we (especially Stanislas69) have turned the Chinese Army upside down. A lot of armors and helmets are completely reworked or brand new. This was because the old ones where not historically accurate. Also the balance is updated towards Alpha 18's standards. Some examples (note that these won't be visible during standard games as promotion is disabled in Alpha 18 and those new armor variants are mainly for advanced and elite units): Current features: - One playable faction: Han (No worries, the civilizations from the main game are still playable) - 2 Custom Random Maps: Loess Plateau and Gobi Desert (made by Spahbod) Who are we? The Council of Modders was formed up of two small modding teams and a few newcomers: Aristeia (about the bronze age) and Millennium A.D. Place the unzipped folder into <installationdirectory>/binaries/data/mods. You'll see another folder there called 'public'. 3. Alpha 18 requires one additional step to play the mod due to a packaging oversight: In the public.zip (which is in the public folder) there is a mod.json. Copy it and put it just outside of the zip file. (so you have 2 files inside the public folder: public.zip and mod.json) 4. Launch the game and enable the mod in Options>Mod Selection. Press 'Start Mods'. 5. Enjoy the mod! Download: han_china.zip mirror: http://www.moddb.com/mods/rote/downloads/sun-tzu-18 Help needed!
