I currently have a 5/0.5 MBit connection because our ISP has some technical problems and all customers therefore have been set to the highest connection speed, and the daily disconnect after 24 hours has been disabled :) This gives quite a comfortable feeling - downloading a new Debian image? 19 minutes... Estimated time for a Gigabyte download? 28 minutes... :D I love it.

    I sorta know how you feel - my ISP gives me around a 3/0.3 Mbit connection, so downloading 700MB or even 1GB files doesn't take too much time at all, probably 30 minutes max. I'm able to download stuff I wouldn't even dream of downloading over dial-up B)

    Yes, it says i uploaded 36 billion byes which is roughly 36 GB and i have downloaded 31 billion bytes which is roughly 31GB.  YUM,  I love my $40 internet connection.  I get my money's worth out of it.

    I assume Sharaza.exe has something to do with this? B) Wow, I'm surprised your ISP hasn't capped your bandwidth yet - you must be using one of the few that don't have a formal bandwidth limitation.

    ISPs hate users like you :)

  3. Texturing problems can *sometimes* indicate a hardware problem (emphasis on the 'some'). Are you doing any overclocking/modding on this card?

    It's odd that the new drivers fixed one problem but introduced some more. I assume you have the 5.2 Catalyst set? (Oops, apparently there's an even newer set (5.3) available... ATI sure is faster than they were a couple of years ago on the driver front, eh?)

    You could try the third-party "Omega" drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/) to see if they help. Be warned that I've never tried/used them myself, so I make no warranty claims :)

  4. Alright, I've finished this section. Various things that stuck out to me are:

    Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible; and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works, or of the kinds of writing that they evidently prefer.

    The most critical reader of all, myself, now finds many defects, minor and major, but being fontunately under no obligation either to review the book or to write it again, he will pass over these in silence, except one that has been noted by others: the book is too short.

    Other arrangements could be devised according to the tastes or views of those who like allegory or topical reference. But I cordially dislike allegory in all its manifestations, and always have done so since I grew old and wary enough to detects its presence. I much prefer history, true or feigned, with its varied applicability to the thought and experience of readers. I think that many confuse 'applicability' with 'allegory'; but the one resides in the freedom of the reader, and the other in the purposed domination of the author.

    I agree with this - a lot of people would tend to think that LOTR is an allegory of various things (including Christian theology), but this is not the case: it only seems so because the stories are so applicable to other things. Yet another example of how deep Tolkien's writing is.

    A complete index, making full use of the material prepared for me by Mrs. N. Smith, belongs rather to the accessory volume

    Out of curiousity - anyone know what this is referring to, or who Mrs. Smith is?

    To them, and to all who have been pleased by this book, especially those Across the Water for whom it is specially intended, I dedicate this edition.

  5. Wow, where do you get the images for those automatical updates from? I'd love to have something like that on my desktop - in fact, I've been searching for earth pictures like this for some time already, but didn't find anything remotely as great as this one (I didn't search too intensively, though :)).

    Me too, I'd love to have a pseudo-live satellite image feed on my desktop :) Do tell where you found this!

  6. Frank has two very good points: there's a good chance it's either burned incorrectly (the Windows XP burning util will *not* do it correctly - you need something like Nero, or my favorite free burning program burnatonce), or your computer is not configured to try booting from the CD drive.

    Try eliminating those two possibilities. If it's still not working, then something very interesting/odd is going on B)
