  1. I think we'll be focusing on objects which the TLA campaigns will use. We'll have general nature objects but stuff like chairs which are not going to (or at least as far as we know at this time) be used we will not concern ourselves with yet. We already have a lot to model and texture as it is.

  2. While I do understand and agree with what you're saying, I don't worry about it that much. True, there will be fewer true tolkien fans like ourselves, but if once the movies hype are gone the books will remain. I don't think the movies will stand as long as the book, mainly because the special effects will become old and it'll be like Casa Blance is to me. What will happen is that all these movie fans will grow up and when the new generation is around, they'll give the books for them to read because the new generation won't be interested in the movies. Thus we are, in a long term goal, multiplying the book community... lol, that took me a while to think up

Seriosly, I'm not concerned because when it comes down to it, anyone who argues with me against true-tolkien visions I can show them the books. And while I do realize why you are all upset, I love the movies and even if they do more harm than good to the purist community, well, at least it gives me more people to teach about true-tolkien ;)

  3. Just to make it clear, I do like the Matrix series alot!!!! While everyone says Reloaded was a dissapointment, I don't think so. I just think people are judging the first part of a story as a full story. Just so that no one thinks I don't like the other trilogies listed (just that there's little comparison to me).

And, yes, you prolly guessed it. I'm not too fond of Star Wars (not even the originals), just never got into it. Not bad, just not great in my opinion.

  4. Ok, first let me point out I loved the movie, and even though I'm sure we may not agreed with parts, in the whole I doubt any of us could have done a better job. Now that my PJ praise is over, let's complain:

    Fellowship of the Ring

1.) Arwen/Glorfindel - I understand why they did it and am glad that the Arwen woman warrior rumours were not true but I still think it's the biggest problem with the movie.

2.) Barrow-Downs/Bombadil - I understand why they didn't have Bombadil and this part, but it's still a shame.

    The Two Towers

1.) Helm's Deep - While overall I liked it, the elves were a huge mistake. And even though some changes seemed appropriate (Eomer/Gandalf and not Erkenbrand) others were horrific (elves!). And as my instinct tell me, it seems the Aragorn's Rangers won't make it into RotK. In this case I wish instead of elves showing up when they did, it were the Rangers. Then it would be more appropriate and it would play nicely with RotK.

2.) Faramir - Flawed portrayal. It just wasn't him. It wasn't exactly a Boromir clone (he did have his own temptation and acted differently than Boromir) but it's obvious his character felt forced in order to show off Osgiliath (maybe because they made the set and wanted it in the Theatrical version) and as soon as it was shown he returned to a more Famarish state.

3.) Haradrim - Adam had pointed me out to this flaw before the movie came out and once I realized it I couldn not stand it. Thanks Adam!!! j/k Seriously, I hope people won't be pointing out mistakes like these about TLA!!

But that's my final point, maybe they just didn't realize the magnitude of these mistakes when they were being made. But then again, 300 million and a team that size should have no excuses.

    Let me comment:

    4) Theoden's exorcism *ahem*

I actually thought it was ok, I mean. To be realistic they should have had him sleep or something and then have him normal again but for general movie goers that would just confuse or not be noticed.

    7) Sam's speech at the end

I had no problem with that. It seemed fitting, though I don’t particularly like Sam (but that’s a problem between me and Sean Astin ;))

    9) minor quibble - the Easterlings arrived from the wrong direction at the Black Gate

Lol, that made me laugh so bad!!!

    11) Elves leaving Rivendell for the Grey Havens (!) along w/ Arwen

Well, I’d rather not totally trust my eyes on that one. It may just end up being a vision/dream of someone. That is one thing they managed to capture the mixture of reality and dreams of memories in elvish places (though it should’ve been from Lorien).

Well, whats really bothering me, exept from all you said, was that there were freakin 300 men, insted of 3000! Well, im maybe wrong tho..!

Well, the thing is the other 2700 are elves… or so it seems in the battle when the orcs breakt through. Not that it excuses it!!

    The Wargs!

Finally, I’m not crazy!! I also did not like the wargs, neither their design nor their implementation in the film. I mean, they just seem nothing like wolves, more like oversized hiennas (obviously more fitting for orc rides, but still wrong) and they don’t seem to be as well implemented as the Balrog and other CG creatures. Maybe because of the quantity/action and speed in which they are forced into.

Galadriel is described as being the extremely beautiful. She's plainly not.

Come on, of course it’s up to opinion, but Galadriel never was supposed to be hot! She’s beautiful (which she is in the movies as well) but not attractive like Arwen.

  5. What if the Mouth of Sauron is Gothmog... he just remembered his name? j/k

I do think Sauron could possibly prolong the life of the man, didn't the other Vala prolong the life of the Numenoreans? Wearing one of the rings is also a possibility.

Anyway, I much rather have him be a BNumenorean for the game, since then there would be a Leader which would be fitting to lead their calvary (the non warg calvary)

  6. Well, the Hobbit just states the experience of Bilbo, who Gandalf never fully told eveyrthing to (mainly because Bilbo would not have understood). The Necromancer was Sauron.

Gandalf left two times if I am not mistaken... One was before they met the trolls and that was to look ahead and have a look around (I think either to check up on Rivendell elves and warn them they were coming or just general scouting - the latter more probable.) and the other time was before Mirkwood where he left to deal with the Necromancer.

He did leave Frodo near the beginning, to council with Saruman and so on. If he had not been tricked, he would have returned to Frodo in Bree and it would have seemed like he was 'teleporting' like he did in The Hobbit.

While I doubt he used magic to dissapear, he did use magic (let's just call it Powers) in both books. I think that in LotR he was far more cautious to use his powers because of the consequences it might cause. Maybe he was reminded the true purpose of his being on ME (to guide the peoples not to directly fight for them). But still he did use lighting, fire and other spells quite often even though they seem to be ignored: he used lighting/fire against the ringwraiths on Weathertop, he used fire/lighting (can't remember which) against the wolves in the Misty Mountains, he used his staff for light in Moria, he used lightning against the ringwraith in Pellenor fields. In the Hobbit he used his powers to protect their treasure, make a fire in the misty mountains I think, lighting in fighting with the goblins, blinding flash to rescure dwarves, fire to fight the wargs and maybe some form of power in the battle of five armies.

I think that if Gandalf was more linitate with his powers, then be remined that he was quite human and forgetting the importance of his own powers could possibily be a nice excuse.

  7. I hate clicking on TTT because of it's flawed mistakes (elves, faramir) but when it comes down to it I much more enjoy TTT than FotR (just like I enjoyed watching Reloaded more than Matrix) not because they are better, but because they are more fun.

But in quality FotR is far more polished than TTT (imo) since there are less plot changes and less drastric things (like the corruption of Faramir's character)

But I don't even want to guess on RotK. I hope it's able to blend the best of both films into one.

  8. I remember disscussing this with Adam. I remember we decided with him being either a Olog (elite higher skilled) or a Black Numenorean. At the time I was suspecious of a Black Numenorean (I knew little about them, or any of the evil sides of things for the matter) but now I see it's the most fitting description. I do think he is not a Wraith, Khamul would have been chosen if that was the case (as was pointed out). An Uruk is possible, but unlikely. An Olog is more probable because they could be fearsome enough to control the masses, but to control the catapults/ringwraiths and other special units I doubt they'd be efficient. A Black Numenrean is where I stand.

  9. It's the history of Arda, ranging all of the first age and I think some of the second age too (or maybe not, can't remember). Lord of the Rings was only 1-2 years near the end of the Third Age.

Well, I guess it's largely based on opinions. But if you like history accounts, Silmarillion is the perfect thing.

  10. "I'm not so bad, once you get to know me... erm, my friends"

If you play the demo for Lords of Everquest, you won't think WotR that much of a War3 clone. I mean, LoE is fairly good in quality but gameplay wise it's precisely (as far as the demo shows) a War3 clone. I'm hoping Blizzard makes a better job of entering Sony's territory than Sony did entering Blizzard's.

Has anyone noticed a rapid decline in the quality of big RTS games. I mean, AoM was lacking in originality, Praetorians was lacking in hardcore fans and community and now a bunch of (IMO) pathetic RTS titles are coming out such as WotR and Lords. And even though I think War3 easily takes the top of RTS games out, it's not exactly an RTS... more of an RPG really. I'm prolly forgetting some, but as far as I can tell not even SSI's Empire : Dawn of the Modern World gets my interest.

  11. Anyway, they all have something that makes me want to play every single one of them, and I will!!! So Adam, you abandoned the Rohirrim for the Noldor? Were the Rohirrim not your favorite civ before? Or do you just like whomever you are designing models of

  12. It be cool if with currency you could do somethign neat with it. Like if someone gets enough currency (a lot so it'd be hard to do) they'd get to have some sort of inside sneak. Like if we had a forum were we post some of the progress which we plan to put on the website but not yet, then people with high currency would be able to purchase their way into these thigns, maybe for a limited days. Say I (not me but some random visitor) manages to get 1000 currecy (haven't read about currency so I don't know the scale of numbers) he'd be able to give it back to the Staff to get a week's access to the Sneak Peak Forum. Nothing big, but nice that he'd be getting something out of it. Probably hard to do, now that the forums are in use.

  13. Well, the was a biased look. It's true they are not as wise and generous as Noldor... but then not all Noldor were good. *cough* Feanor *cough*. So if you think they were mean not to help the dwarves, keep in mind that they were only Nandor and more -erm- human than other elves, they did not like dwarves especially if they would not tell what their business was and also their beliefs were different than that of dwarves. Afterall, the dwarves were not much more better. Remember the lack of help Bilbo got from them in his adventures with Smaug. And that's what's cool, in the Hobbit all the races are flawed. The Noldorin elves teased the dwarves and annoying them, the Silvan elves were suspicious and 'mean', the dwarves were greedy and may I venture so far as call them not-loyal. The men of Esgorath were easily persuaded and even Bilbo tried to keep the Ring and the Arkenstone for himself!! Even Beorn was not necesserily the best friend, in LotR everything is alot more black and white (except for Gondorians and Gollum).

  14. I dissagree that those elves are off from the true elves, as I said in an ealier post in a different forum, I think elvish moods greatly affect their actions. I do think you are right about them being Nadorin and that's why they share the petty dislike against dwarves, but I think they must be very happy and glad and gay when they feel like it. Just like we have happy and sad times, I'm sure they did too and that's why their art and culture reflects both sides. Bilbo was just lucky to see them mostly in their happy place.

  15. I think Tolkien does not say if they even have pointed ears. And that's why there's so many interpretations of elvish ears. The pointed ears actually come from a merge of Tolkien and previous Teutonic Myths. Ancanar, a ind film based and inspired by Tolkien's works for example has elves with normal human ears.

My personal opinion is that Tolkien elvish ears are not pointed, but rather more like men. But for general knowledge, since the foreign-nity of elves usually can not really be presented on illustrations/games/movies they have develped pointed ears. My reason for this belief is that Elros (Elrond's brother, am I mistaken in the name?) chose to be human. Do you think that his ears shrank, I don't. I believe his apperance did not change, but rather he was less graceful, more normal. It probably would be confuseble with an elf, but among elves they would be able to tell he was human (not based on any physical factor)

And I can go on into many of my own interpretations on elves and men and their difference. It may be that their fairness and beauty was merely the illusion men had of them, since the wisdom and cares and happiness of ages was present in their faces. A man who is the same age as another, but has suffered more loss and a worse life will look different. His face and the lividhood of it would show in his expressions. I myself believe elves to be exactly that, their image to men is only in the eye of the beholder. If they were solemn at the time, remembering sad times they would appear terrible and old, and wise with a sad bueaty. But if they were remembering glad times, they would seem fair and happy and beautiful.

Of, course I have no real problem with them having ears, since I don't remember Tolkien saying either in the texts, but personally (if it's the choice between the ears) I'd go with PJ ears.
