Perhaps put it in the article about Meneldil, with a separate section that says "Royal Conspiracy?" or something.
-
I hope I am not being terribly ignorant here - so please correct me if I am wrong -
I've never heard of a master stone of Tol Eressëa - I even searched for it in Unfinished Tales' "The Palantíri" and couldn't find reference to it.
After the Elendili dispersed the stones throughout Middle-earth, there were stones at:
Osgiliath - Major Stone
Amon Sûl - Major Stone
Angrenost
Annúminas
Minas Anor
Minas Ithil
Elostirion
Perhaps you mean the stones before they were given to the Elendili? I recall elves from Tol Eressëa presented these stones, crafted by Fëanor to Elendil and his heirs.
The Istari were sent to Middle-earth in TA 1000, so that would mean that the seven palantíri would have been in the above locations.
Thus I don't think they were used to spy upon Sauron, especially since Sauron didn't have control of a Palantír until he took Minas Ithil.
Unless I missed something about this "master stone" of Tol Eressëa.
I would think that the Valar were certainly powerful enough to spy on Sauron through other means. Remember that the palantíri were elvish devices.
The Valar often had many messengers as animals, etc that could easily have infiltrated Sauron's locations.

Well by "studying architecture" I mean I am a student of architectural design, as in I actually design and practice architecture. With that said I think I can add a lot to the process of design of the buildings, because I can imagine how "fictional" architects would have done it.
But also I am a student of architectural history and theory, and so I study a lot about the cultural influences of architecture and how architecture and history are intertwined. And with many civilizations, mythology and architecture are also intertwined - for instance, temples, churches, etc. I do know a good amount about the history of architecture, history in general, and mythology, which I think is important to understanding Tolkien's motives for creating Arda. Thus I can apply a lot of what I know about how culture, geography, available resources, history, and mythology influence architecture, both high and low.
All this means is that in designing the buildings for TLA, you can bet that they aren't going to be designed whimsically, but rather with well-researched regard for the cultures that build them.
With regard to changing architectural vernacular, as you pointed out with the Noldor, this is also something that I study and something that I do care about in the game. In fact, the reason we split each civilization up was so that the Noldor for instance could be a slightly different civilization in each playable age. So you will see variations and progressions in architecture.
As for specifics, I'm not sure that I'm ready to answer all of these questions because to be honest I haven't researched enough about them. When we're closer to full-fledged production of the art assets for the game, we're going to be scouring Tolkien's works for such references in the hopes of creating a comprehensive architectural history of arda in keeping with Tolkien's comprehensive mythology and linguistic history.
And I like to answer questions that are this interesting Don't feel bad about asking.
If there's one thing I'd like to improve with the project at this point it'd be to make it more transparent to the fans, but it's hard to release everything we have all the time because it simply takes a long time, and also because a lot of things are always changing or being worked on and we can't release one thing and then change it because that means besides updating everything within our own team documents we have to update all of the public things.
PS - I made a mistake on the gallery address, so sorry about that:

Glad you are as excited as we are.
No, there currently is not topic on the man himself, since no articles exist on him. However, simply by making an article and then assigning it this category, you'd be able to automatically make the category itself.

You can use jpg files, can't you? So why don't you just use that?
That's beyond my current level of knowledge as the file names are hardcoded into the forum code. I simply overwrite existing images, I don't add new code.
I suppose it's possible, but at this point the skin is no longer my priority and a lot of time that could have been spent on game design was spent on this.
Like I said, the only changes I'll make at this point are with fixing errors.
Seems a lighter than the home page. Maybe darken certain bits. I prefer the slightly more contrasted theme of the webpage. This one's slightly hard to read. Maybe it's just my monitor. No, it is lighter. And when we redesign the website, it will also be lighter

I guess it wasn't clear enough - I thought it would be, so sorry to all who may have been misled by my statement earlier.
I was referring specifically to section 3.6 of our community guidelines.

lol I'd like to picture that:
"Today I will be reciting a short poem entitled "the Silmarillion" or the history of Middle Earth, so bear with me for a few hours"
Well if you lived in the dark ages with Anglo-saxons or in Tolkien's Arda with the elves, chances are, that's exactly what you would here. That's why we refer to anything massive and all-encompassing these days as "epic".
Even Herodotus's histories were recited live for several hours.
Before the printing press, and especially in the dark ages, the oral tradition of epic poetry and storytelling was communication and entertainment.
You can sit and watch a movie screen for three hours and our ancestors could listen to a bard sing the Norse Eddas for hours.

Only the reply buttons don't look so fancy...
That's because they are gif files and have indexed color palettes. We'll just have to put up with it.

I think a book is probably the only way
Or an epic poem.

I've seen this movie, and it is quite funny.

The Morning After (Thrillseekers Mix) - 8 Wonders [World of Trance]

I hope you'll all enjoy our new forum skin, which hopefully does its job of linking together all of TLA's community webpages.
If you find any problems, please let me know. I'm not going to make any major changes, however, I'll only be able to fix errors and such.
-
Looking forward to both of these.
By the way, for future reference - when doing articles on humans let's try to include birth and death dates.
-
I think if you search the forums you'll find them in a previous topic. Maybe one of the movie-bashing topics.
Anyways you could probably find them yourself.
As for me, my collection is about 400 miles away.

TLA is aiming for about a year later than 0AD's release date.
Like Bobby said, production will be a lot quicker once WFG has been through it once.
-
Yes, calc should be great fun. It is definitely a gateway to higher forms of knowledge.
-
Now all I have to do is buy unfinished tales.
Well then all you'll have to do is buy HoME

Yes, there was some inspiration from Tolkien in winter. That is actually a self portrait though. Self Portrait in Ent.
I guess the main reasons I detest that self portrait are that, first of all, it looks nothing like me, and the way I did it was to subdivide a photo into squares to "reproduce" a black and white photo. It took little skill or artistic invention to do. So it just is embarrassing to me on multiple fronts.
I was developing an artistic concentration on the integration of human beings in various environments - natural, artificial, etc.
Man vs. Nature - Winter
Man vs. Technology/Culture - A Culture of Excess
Man vs. Nature/Culture - Self Portrait in Spaghetti
Man vs. Nature - Truth
etc
I'll be posting things from my sketchbook and my architectural projects soon.
Glad that you enjoy them!

I'd say that the Lost Road (HoME V) and Quendi and Eldar may be better sources for linguistic research, but the Letters certainly contain some information.
The letters, however, I agree would be Carpenter's most valuable contribution. So much about Tolkien's academic interests, life, motives, etc can be gleaned from them. If one wants to try to understand the "spirit" of Tolkien's works, a good place to start is the letters.

It's going to be maybe 6 months before we start mainstream modeling.
One must remember that 0 AD was begun more than a year ahead of TLA, and besides that, they work more quickly then us

Well why don't you use "Mat" instead of "Matt"?

Your interest is most welcomed and celebrated here.
We're pretty close to releasing what Sukkit's done with Khuzdûl and Nandorin, so you can look forward to that.
As for me, I can understand a good amount of Tolkienic languages, and translate/speak/write a bit, but only enough to get me along as project leader Sukkit's been doing a great job, however, and I don't have any qualms about delegating my responsibilities when it comes to linguistics!
So welcome again -
