  1. So, there might be plans to phase out the Nubian bow, what will it be replaced with?  I've heard cretan archers, but I'm thinking not a merc, because having one of a faction's starting units being a merc is kinda brutal economically.  I was thinking just a native egytpian archer, because the Ptolemaic made massive use of native ranged "auxiliaries."

One could also say the converse (for example swordmen can defeat easily a ram and not a spearmen)...

So I guess everything is fine ;-)

Counter siege! Hadnt thought of that!  Well, I guess that gives them some utility.;)

  3. Shouldnt this be balanced or something?  I mean if you look at the stats:

    Swords:

    Health; 100.    Armour: 5 hack. 5 pierce 15 crush.

    Attack: 5.5 hack 0.75 sec

    Spears:

    Health: 100.    Armour: 5 hack. 5 pierce.  15 crush.

Attack: 3 hack 2.5 pierce (adds to 5.5) 1 sec. 3x against cav.

That's the problem there, they do the same damage against infantry because infantry have the same armour against pierce as hack, but spears have a 3x multiplier against cav.  I'd say swords need a damage buff.  But that's just me.

  4. So, I tested 40 Egyptian pikes with Ptolemy IV (not in the fight, he was off to the side) against 30 bronze shields and 10 silver shields (all level 1) and the Egyptians lost.  Now, I replaced 10 Egyptian pikes with 10 Seleucid silver shields (as a place holder for the Royal Agema) and the Egyptians won.  @wowgetoffyourcellphone has already put them in Delenda Est, and they round out Egypt nicely.

Could I possibly get some discussion, I want to hear your guys' opinions!  :P

I think the code is not there yet. At the moment just manual definition in the actor of which of the walk/jog/run variations the unit will use when moving. Charging is just moving the units faster to the enemy which would just trigger the run_ready variations until they get to a position where they can reach the enemy to start the attack animation or back to idle_ready if the charge does not reach the enemy.

Okay!  What I had in my head was kinda like a roman infantry charge in Rome II.  If there are still plans to create alternate fires (hastati throwing pila, etc) then the really cool run, to short skip, and throw, to charge would be amazing.  I'll see if I can find a good example on the internet.

EDIT: I know this is a crappy video, but at 6 seconds, what the Triarii on the left are doing is what I'm envisioning, IMHO.  It looks really cool.

  7. Do we already have code that will differentiate between idle and ready anims?

And are we planning on having charge anims?  Like ones that combine the ready run and an attack?

EDIT: These look AMAZING by the way.  Nice work!
