  1. I play the Ptolemaics fairly well.  Two third of my infantry is pikes, the other third is Thureos spears.  Two third of my ranged are peltasts, the other third is archers.  I use lots of melee cav, with some archer and sometimes jav cav backup.  I use elephants.

Now, the Seleucids have the exact same units, and for substantially cheaper.....but try as I might, I dont do as well as the Seleucids!  Isjrhsksnfbfjsn!  Why?:P:bawling::self_hammer:

  2. More ideas:

Like Rise and Fall, an embark/disembark function for ships.  Basically, it just locks (or unlocks) a ship on the shore.  So when units are told to board, the vessel doesnt move, and make boarding difficult.

    Idea two:

Once necessary animations are done, perhaps we could have different rest and movement anims for different stances.  Example: AoE 3 infantry.  Once could tell if a unit was in defensive, standground, agressive, or patroling.

  3. Yeah, I did not update it, and I chose the replay immediately after the match.  A series of errors appears stating exhange error, player has no markets, and my units sit idle, while the comp players move as normal. Occassionally , a toop movement I did order would happen, then nothing.

Warning: ExchangeResources: player has no markets.

If you made a svn update at all any save or replay will not work period if it was played or save before said update.

    Enjoy the Choice :)

Oh.  I believe I tried to watch the replay immediately after the match, but I exited out to the main screen first.  But maybe I didn't....

It s the sample effect. For pikemen it s more homogeneous. Look at big armies and big battles.

So the xp may be more spread across the pikes...  I didn't look for that, you're probably right

Perhaps there should be some experience given for taking damage?

I imagine a commander ordering his troops to stand in archer fire to 'harden them up'. He'd be a bit of a loony but it'd probably teach the troops real quick where they should be holding their shields

of course with tank units like pikes, it's their most useful trait.

I do like that idea!  Because battle can become unbalanced rapidly, when one side with faster and more damage dealing attacks is against an enemy who just soaks damage.  Or possibly, experience is gathered by the amount of time in combat i.e. the time spent running the combat animation.  Therefore there is a guaranteed even distribution of xp amongst any unit type in combat, but not every unit gains xp, as not every unit can be on the front line.

  6. This is a prime example.  These pikes and thureos spears were grouped, fought the same fights, and I even had to replace about two thirds of the spears throughout the match, while I replaced no pikes.  After plowing through two medium Petra opponents, this is what they looked like.  There are a large number of level 3 and level 2 thureos spears, while not a single pike has leveled up to even level two.  They fought exactly the same enemies at the same time.

  7. So, this little pass (the south, north, and east) entrances into the middle of the forest battle map are impassable to siege equipment and elephants, making playing this map, a tad difficult, as the passes into the mountains are too small for them as well.  Was this on purpose, or...?  Is there a possible way to widen it a little?  In the screenshot, the pictured lithobolos couldn't get through, even after the game and towers were destroyed.

  8. So, it saved two files of a match.  One, was only part of the match, and that saved and runs fine, but when I run the replay of the full match, the comps run fine, but my civ does only some things I told it do to.

    So you're no king anymore ? :)

No, I'm going with my public "gamer" Name.  And, ya can't really name yourself "SeleucidKing" and play anything other than the Seleucids now, can you?  ^_^

Which is nice, because I find I'm better with the Ptolemaics....
