Well, obviously, China has no real direct threat ... but they are way closer to Iran, Pakistan, North Korea (although they are supposedly allies) than the US ...

So, why banning China of buying arms? is China a threat for the world or is it a threat to US hegemony in the world ...

I am not in favour of lifting the ban, because obviously China wants to invade Taiwan ... but at the same time, I don't see any arguments against it except that one ...

I think that Russia is at the moment turning in a new USSR and may be far more dangerous in the future ...

And the EU as an economic power wants to sell arms to China ... simply because the EU is not a political power ... States within the EU still have too much pride to let a federal governing body decide for them ... but as soon as they can make money, they know how to unite!

@ Klaas ... yes, I know a very good hotel ... but not in London ... 30km from London ... it is called "at my aunt's house" ... ;) it is free for me :( ...

No, seriously, as I always stay at my aunt's house (or at my cousin's house), I have no idea of any hotel in London ... but if I can give you a piece of advice, here it is:

find an hotel far from London, but on the Underground line ... I don't think you can find an hotel in London for less than £ 60 ( € 100) ...

Near London Bridge and London Bridge Station, I know a little sandwich shop held by Italians ... they are very popular for lunch time, so I advise you to go quite early ... it is a shame to go to McDonald's in London! try to find something else!!!!! there are little placesd in Chinatown too, which are quite cheap!

    have some imagination man! :)

    Here is my pick ...

Morning take the Tube to Liverpool Street Station ... from there, head to Leadenhall Market and The Monument (monument in rememberance of the Great Fire). Then, walk to The Tower of London and Tower Bridge that is just close ... then, walk to London Bridge and cross it ... (you can take great pictures of Tower Bridge from there). Then, when you have crossed London Bridge, turn right to Southwark Cathedral ... walk by the River Bank past the Globe Theatre and in front of the New Tate Gallery. Then, when in front of the New Tate Gallery, cross the river on the Millenium Bridge (for pedestrians only) and go to Saint Paul's Cathedral ... that's about it for the morning ;)

Then, have a lunch in the little sandwich shops around Saint Paul's Cathedral and near the Temple ... then, after lunch, go to The Temple, you can visit the actual Temple with the Knights Templars (very popular at the moment) and you can see some nice places around ... from there, go to Temple Station to take the Tube to go to Westminster or simply walk to Westminster if you feel like it ... You will see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament ... then, you can walk to St James's Park and Buckingham Palace ... walk around and walk to Trafalgar Square. In there, you can get into the National Gallery (it's free). From there, you can either walk or take the tube to Picadilly Circus. From Picadilly Circus, you walk to Leicester Square and walk up to Tottenham Court Road ... arrived at Tottenham Court Road, you can go to Chinatown or to the British Museum that is very close ...

I did that with my wife in August last year ... it is quite a walk, but it is nice ... and at the end of the day, you are exhausted :)

London is quite a small town (in surface) compared to Paris or New York, so you can do a lot of it (the historical centre) walking ... I hope you will follow my path ... enjoy :(

Beren, it is not about what you prefer or like ... it is about what Tolkien wrote and thought to be the best ...

Christopher Tolkien clearly states that his father eventually thought that Orcs originated from Maiar before the First Age of the Sun and from Men after they arose ...

not much to discuss here, methinks.

how about posting some advertising on other websites? theonering.net , tolkienonline.com (or whatever dot it is) ... etc ...

and on local Tolkien sites and forums ...

maybe that would bring some people over ...

or maybe those who said they joined didn't understand the concept of a Reading Group ... they maybe thought you just had to read and nothing else :D

Good Lord ... that is an enormous sum of money !!!! Does everybody have the ability to pay for such an amount? Thankfully in France, Universities are (supposedly) free and you only pay for the administrative part ... which varries between €60 and €120 ($70-$140)

I see the Great Eagles as Pre-First Age Orcs ... that is to say, Eearthbound Maiar who lost their ability to return to a spirit shape ... and able to mate and procreate. Similar to Melian, the Balrogs, etc ...

The Third Age Eagles are probably descendants of Maiar in the First Age or Pre-First Age. But, what is their status? I know not.

Well, on this point, I am with you too :)

Were there students' protests in 1995 in Italy? There were some in France ... and I joined as well ... I was in first year University at the time.

Anyway, my point was: in December 1994, it all started and by the beginning of March 1995, the protests had spread throuhgout all social classes ... and government had to step down some (really) stupid laws ...

I quite disagree with you guys, and my view is more like Yiuel's.

In France, students' strikes have always been the first move towards a more general discontent (May 1968, 1980, 1986, 1993, 1995, 2005) ... the students seem to have an advance upon the rest of the population. Governments know that, and they are scared of it ... especially if there is an election to come :)

That's why I think students' strikes can be useful.
