And to see a human face to Sauron would probably be the most difficult... Yet, I wouldn't render him as a large being. I would see him better as someone with a normal height, only very charismatic and seemingly somehow powerful. In fact, I would see him not black, but actually blond, or maybe brown, really pleasant to someone's eye, only having deep and fugace eyes.

quite agree with you, but I think Sauron as a Human should be the most beautiful human being that can ever be seen ... an angel's face with an evil spirit ... B)

Well, in the long run, I think we'll have two types of people ... those who will always think that LotR was only a film (Gone with the Wind? B) ) ... and those for whom the film will lead to the books ...

But the craze has really gone down ...

because it is the global language

Well, where does this need of having global things come from? Globalized economy, globalized language, globalized culture, etc ...

The world is turning into a globalized world with only one type of economy, one language, one culture, one leader, etc ... why?

Although I am strongly in favour of teaching English to very young kids in France, Germany, Belgium, (I am myself an English teacher), I think that it has come to a peak.

When you learn a language, you also learn a culture, a way of life (American or English) ...

The spread of English and its culture all over the world has totally shadowed other alternatives (Esperanto for instance) ... I know I won't be able to change the way things are, but I don't think that having a single leading culture/language is good for Mankind ...

and true, this thread is getting OT B)

Yes, New Orleans and the whole of Louisiana was French until 1803 ... and the selling of the whole Louisiana to the US, by Napoleon to fund his Napoleonic Wars ... (the greatest mistake of Napoleon's ... anyway ...)

Canada had already been English for a while ... I am sure there were Quebecois people who went to Louisiana, but overall, they are now two different people ... even in their speech, Cajuns fron Louisiana speak a very different French than those in Quebec.

You have to imagine that Louisiana went from the St Laurent river down to New Orleans ... it was a massive piece of land ...

Now, Confederate Cavalry ... the French see the Americans as the most arrogant, slimy, hypocritical people and good-for-nothing sleezy balls in the world ... and yet, they are the most conservative people I know ... :P

Maybe the Americans can't bear that some countries are trying to challenge their own arrogance :P (I know there is going to be an American Vendetta, but I couldn't let him say that ... B) )

Well, maybe Europe has learnt its lesson a little (still, I am skeptical), but the world has not ...

We tend to forget (the we is the world in general) ... more than the war, it's the holocaust that has to be remembered ...

Now, I will be expecting very excitingly the 60th anniversary of Japanese defeat ... and maybe some excuses to the neighbouring countries? (China, Korea, Philippines, etc ...)

Well, exactly ... Napoleon wanted to revive the greatness of Roman times ... he was fascinated by Rome, but not by Charlemagne ... and France had just had a Revolution a few years ago that stopped the enormous power of the Church in the country ... so, Napoleon humiliated the Pope in obligating him to come to his coronation, but not letting him coronate him ...

Charlemagne was the first King in Europe to be put to power by the Church ... from then on, Kings would not be holy as they stand, but they would need blessing from the Pope/Church ...

Ah no Titus ... I cannot let you say that ...

I believe that some rights of Muslims (headscarves, if I'm not mistaken) have been restricted in France, already.

In France, the Muslims' rights have not been restricted ! In fact, headscarves are allowed for Muslims EVERYWHERE in France ... why forbidding it???? Yet, within school, there is no room for religion ... All religious symbols are prohibited ... including Jewish Kipas, Christian crosses, Sihk turbans, Muslim scarves, etc ... if you have a belief, you keep it for yourself ... that's why teachers as well as students must hide all religious beliefs ...

Well, not only Loonis ... that's what people see from the outside of it ... but the English Reformation was deeper than that ... the divorce issue was just a pretext, as much as Edward VIII's divorce was a pretext to have him abdicate ...

Henry VIII wanted to get rid of the Pope's power in Europe ... Popes could make and destroy Kings ... Henry VIII managed to put an end to the Pope's power at the time ... it's not about religion. It is about political power :)

True Sukkit ... married Catholic priests could be found until the 14th century ... Then, in THEORY, every Catholic can become Pope ... man, woman, cardinal or simple farmer ... but of course, this is theory ... However, there were women who were Pope ... maybe 2, IIRC ...

And the main concern of the Roman Catholic Church is not to become too similar to the Protestant Churches ... if you look at the Church of England, it has nearly no difference with the Roman Catholic Church ... the only notable difference is that women can become priests ...

Well, you cannot deny that all Western countries were built on Christian values, although some deny it (France ... ;) ) ...

Even a very (very) anti-religious country such as France was built on Christian values acquired centuries before ...

that's why Western-style democracy does not work outside this circle of influence ... that is to say mostly in Africa ...

Having a "base law" (you could call it Constitution) implies using the traditions ... you need some kind of "base" ... call it the Bible, Quran, Torah, tradition, animism, whatever-ism ... ALL societies in the world were built upon a religion ... and those which broke ALL links with religion failed (Communism).

Now, about multiculturalism ... although our Western societies are said to be laïques (i.e. religion-free), they are still Christian influenced ... Why is it immoral to beat your wife? Why is it allowed to eat pork? Why is it forbidden to burn your wife when you die? etc ... because our societies, unconsciously, tend to keep the religious track ... So, I understand the difficulty of accepting people who do not share your beliefs (socially speaking) ... It takes decades, even centuries for a minority to be fully integrated in a society that is not the same ... (Jews in France for instance who have been in France for centuries and are well accepted in France, with a little break during WW2).

Human beings started worshipping their ancestors, and then Gods millenia ago ... it must be stuck in our DNA somewhere ... It is necessary to find these beliefs in the society you live in.

Anyway, sorry not to explain my view a little more, but I have fever and I must go to bed at once. :)

As said previously, I agree with Mithrandil, but I totally disagree with Drashkurz and Radagast ...

the Gollum/Shelob issue cannot be seen as follower/god ...

Gollum does not believe in anything ... except maybe in the punishment he will receive from Sauron or Shelob ... He only sees Shelob as a mighty animal ...

  12. (:)

Well, that is precisely what I don't want to do :)

I want to write deep articles that go to the very depths of Middle-Earth ... but I understand Ardaquenta needs more "barebones", so I may just sacrifice and do that ;)

  13. (:)

Well, Malte ... I am very very much in favor of the EU and European integration, but I am not really in favor of the European Constitution ... in France, we are going to have a referendum on May 29th and I am in the process of reading it ... there are some articles that suit me, but others are really not my poin of view ... so, when I have read it through, I will weigh the pros and the cons :)

The Constitutional Treaty is not about the EU ... it is a vision of Europe with which I share some views, but with which I do not share others ... ;)

  14. (:)

Well, I am deeply sorry, but at the moment, I don't have time to write in Ardaquenta ... when I write articles, I want more than just the basics ... I would like to go deeper into it ... and I can't spend that much at the moment ... but I may in the coming weeks :)
