Well, I quite agree with ZeZar about the issue of rich people being sentenced ... Simpson and Jackson are two well-known cases.

Anyway, I was outraged to see hundreds of fans outside calling for Jackson's innocence, as if he was over the law ... a disgrace, IMHO ... not only Americans, but also French, English, etc ... :axeman:

That's not true Curu, since last year MS is now selling winXP without media player, and they're paying a part of the fine now.

OTOH the EU is probably going to sign the infamous patent law, only the parliament can hold it back now. The EU is being quite hypocrite in this matter, especially thanks to our Irish friends.

Well, M$ said they would make efforts, but not enough according to the EU and M$ will have to do more or it will have a $5 million per day fine.

But apparently, M$ made their suggestions at the very last minute (June 1st) ... but you never know ... the EU said they will see if M$ complied, and maybe they will fine M$ after that ... :axeman:

Besides, M$ is not selling WinXp without Media Player at a cheaper price ... therefore, you have 2 choices:

    - buy WinXP without Media Player for €200 (price roughly, IIRC)

    - buy WinXP with Media PLayer for the same price ... €200.

Who, except a few nerds, would buy the first version? nobody ...

The EU is going to take new measures against M$'s monopoly position. M$ was compelled from giving out some source code regarding Media Player and they were supposed to remove Media Player from its Windows editions.

They agreed, but nothing has yet been done. The EU is planning to fine M$ the equivalent of 5% of its yearly turnover ... hopefully, that might oblige M$ to change things ... :axeman:

    Klaas and Matteo both :axeman:

Anyway, I agree with you Matteo about that distorsion ... the Polish, the Spanish, the British and the Italian peoples disagreed with Dubya, but the governments decided to follow the US into Iraq.

About the enlargement of the EU, I think the existing members were getting scared that Eastern Europe (the new EU members) may become within the sphere of influence of the US. Therefore, they accelerated the process and accepted 10 of them all at once. I think it was a mistake, but that is done, so we have now to cope with it.

    Just my € 0.0166 :torch:

I said a bloodier war in the 1800's *but of corse a European would forget that...*

    you exactly said:

Also, 800,000 people died in the Nepolianic WARS. Wars being the important word in the sentance.

I said find a WAR that was bloodier then the Civil War.

But we'll let it go at take a look at the deth toll divided by the years and get an average for each year.

Also, the US sufferd preaty badly in WWII just like everyone ells. INFACT: more American troops died in WWII then English, Dutch, and I think French.

Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God

Are you serious, or are you just kidding?

the USSR lost 20 million people both military and civilians.

China lost millions (the exact figure is not known ... probably around 10 million)

Germany lost 4.5 million people (including 1 million civilians)

    Japan, 2 million

Yugoslavia 1.3 million (including 1 million civilians)

Italy, France and Britain lost 500,000 each

the US lost less than 300,000 men, very few of whom were civilians ...

you can find good websites with sources on google.

here is an example: death tool of WW2

I hope it is a good read ...

stop saying things without knowing. Look on the Internet at least. It's a great means of learning. :axeman:

hoh hoh hoh .... calm down ... look, my posts were not aggressive, and once again, I am the only French here. Others criticized the US, and who gets all the ranting? me. :axeman:

    Besides, you say:

    You insult Arab traditions.

oh yes, sorry, I forgot that in France, we didn't desacralize the Quran, we didn't emprison illegally hundreds of Muslim people, we didn't humiliate them in front of cameras, etc ...

Come on, I am not saying the EU is perfect. On the contrary, there are many many things that are not correct, and you pointed some of them (Africa is a good example), but don't be aggressive when somebody is trying to say that the US is not Heaven on Earth either ... Try to be critical a little on yourself and not on others all the time ...

Next time you rant like that, I will perform a :torch:

    that's my € 0.016361 (US$ 0.02 ;) )

    great work, Anco!

About Farmer Maggot's name, Tolkien uses names which have an English conotation. Samwise (Sam-Wise => refers to his wisdom?), Hamfast (Ham-Fast), Bamfurlong (Bam-Furlong) ...

Those names have to have roots in English language since Hobbits are supposed to be "Middle Class English people". Actually, my cousin's name would really be Tolkienish since her family name is Morkham (Ham of Mork) ... etc ...

And no, they're not wannabe communists, Putin is a fascist nationalist. Communism means collectivism, it means that everything is owned by the state, that there's social security, free education, free hospitals, pensions, etc. But now these things are gone in Russia; there's nearly no social security, decent education is very expensive, hospitals aren't free anymore and old people hardly get a pension. That's not communism, it's capitalism.

Exactly, Putin is a wannbe Stalinist, not a Communist.

Klaas, agreed on all points ;)

    :axeman:

[quot€]I said find a WAR that was bloodier then the Civil War.

    WW1? WW2? :axeman:

Can you beat WW2 in number of civilians and military? I don't think so ... in a few days, the French and the English lost more than 100,000 men in the Battle of Dunkerque ...

I am willing to bet that if we were more like Europe, we would not be so anti the Patriot Act...

that's true, because our politicians wouldn't even think of passing such a law !!!! the people would be so much against it that there would be demonstrations in the streets ... and the government would have to repell it ...

The Europeans think that the Patriot Act is an Anti-Freedom law ... you are not the only people who believe in individual rights and Freedoms. Having gun control in Europe doesn't mean we are Stalinists !!!

On another note, the US have spent $486 billion in 2004 for military spendings ... that represents 47% of the overall military spendings in the world. Those $486 billion represent $76 per person in the whole world ...

those figures are simply amazing ...

this amount is nearly similar to what the military spendings were during the Cold War peak as for military spendings (1987-88) ...

Among those $486 billion, $238 billion were funded on top of the regular budget ... $238 billion represents more than military spendings of Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle-East all together (the entire developing world) ...

All these figures can be found here.

  11. (:)

Besides, if I remember correctly, Japan is not allowed to send troops abroad, thanks to its Constitution, except for humanitarian reasons ...

Between all people of the world, the only ones I can think that really agreed (majority) is the Unitedstaters, the Israelians and a few middleastern people.

which Middle Eastern people? Syrian :P? Lebanese? Iranian? Egyptian? I can't think of any ... :)
