1. A bronze age mod would be pretty sweet - Minoans, Mycenaeans, Egyptians, Hittites, Babylonians, Assyrians, et. al.
2. Just received my copy of "Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut" DVD in the mail. I'll let you guys know how it is this weekend when I find time to watch it.
3. Man, my city needs an IMAX theater!
4. I think Alexander would have won. Remember, the Romans of the time were still only a Regional power. They only had the middle section of Italy under their sway. All the Greek and Samnite cities south of Latium/Campania were still independent. The Gauls were still a huge threat to the Romans in the Po River valley (northern Italy) as well. This was also pre-Marian reforms - even pre-Punic Wars era Romans. I think Alexander would have adjusted his tactics accordingly. I think he would have taken Carthage, then moved on Scicily, then secured the Greek cities in Magnae Graecia (south Italy), then taken the rest of Italy, burning Rome to the ground, Thebes-style. Despite the movies, I don't think he would have moved on Gaul. At this point he probably would have made an expedition to the Pillars of Herakles to place his foot in the opposite side of the World Ocean from India. Subsequent Emperors, Alexander IV and V would have conquered Gaul and Dacia, securing the empire's northern borders. Contacts would have been made with China. Alexander VI completes the conquest of India. teehee
5. Scipii - Actually you still "research" the higher city phase, but they aren't "Ages." Sorry to disappoint.
6. Body Textures = Mythos, Wijitmaker Helmets = DNAS Shields = Irish_Stag, Mythos Meshes = Wijitmaker Showcase = Mythos
7. I don't see why not. That's one of those ideas I am sure was tossed around during design phase for 0 A.D.
8. There really arent any "Ages" in the game. The epochs are called "phases" as in the "Phase" of your city - the size of your city or civilisation. Village -> Town -> City.
9. From the news release on the front page:
10. Some scaling can be done. It's actually a pretty good idea. We plan to implement that for trees anyway. We'll see what we can do!
11. Welcome Jim! What do you think will be your favorite faction in the game?
12. The Peltast for the Greeks is Thracian, at least in Part 1.
13. You'll be able to capture female citizens.
14. Welcome bohhy. I hate the Roman Empire. Long live the Greeks! hehe
15. For April Fool's Day we've released a new showcase detailing the Hoplites in our game. Surprise! An excerpt: http://www.wildfiregames.com/~art/showcase/showcase-unit-hoplite-(thumb).jpg Click the image above to view the new showcase! You may view past showcases in our Showcase Gallery! Let us know what you think!
16. Pretty much what we're after. Pikes/Spears don't always win vs. cavalry. When hit from the rear by cavalry, a phalanx of pikemen will lose, and probably badly. However, generally, pikemen will win against cavalry.
17. Great article. I'd like one about the Greeks (misconceptions: open homosexuality, throwing babies off cliffs, the Sacred Band, "freedom" and "democracy", etc.)
18. A note on Venice: It's too bad Venice hasn't been featured in an RTS yet. Venice was the first city after the fall of Rome to take up Rome's mantle. She was the first city to recruit a home-grown professional army and had a very powerful navy. It's almost as if the Athenian Empire or Carthage was reborn in Venice. Their overseas possessions were scattered around the Mediterranean. Very interesting faction. They could have the ability to construct buildings in shallows.
19. Saw it tonight - loved it. I'd say 4 out of 5 stars. The best part (the part that made me giggle like a school girl) was when the battle first begins at the Hot Gates. It's the only time the Spartans actually use the phalanx formation and it is glorious! Better than I had imagined.
20. The movie reminds me of "Streets of Rage" for Sega Genesis (mid 1990s). Each level (read: scene) has a boss fight.
