I try to only release an "official" screenshot every month or every other month.

Well, for a game of this scale and in order for us to finish it before 2012, we have to make compromises and boil down the game to its essential elements. We can always (and will) add things later after the game is released.
-
Don't forget, the mouth pain will cause -1 attack until you use coin to see a dental hygienist. Anesthesia costs extra.
-
Yes. We'll have player scores.
-
I was lazy. I also had orientation the next morning for a new job.
-
No. If we include Sulla, Caesar, and the Marian Reform they'll come in a 1.5 patch or something of that nature. There are plans for post-release patches including additional content to hold people over until Part 2 is released, but nothing definite. Part 2 will have Pax Romana legions, with Lorica Segmentata armour.
-
Correct. Also, the Marian Legionnaire you have pictured there is outside the timeline of the Romans even for Part 1, as we are depicting the Romans as they were for the 2nd Punic War - the Camillian Legions.
-
We'll probably give them a Manipular formation in Part 1, instead of Testudo, which would come in Part 2.
-
Something like that wouldn't come until Part 2.
-
Different units cost different "garrison" amounts. So, a big unit, such as a siege engine, takes up more garrison room than a single infantryman.
-
Well, I know there are Japanese swords with shorter blades, I am just ignorant of their names. Perhaps she can use Sais instead? And about "realism"... is it realistic to have UFOs, Minotaurs, and Giant Ants? They're cheat units. Mucho fun. Perhaps male and female ninjas.
-
I think the main weakness of heroes will be arrows. However, they will tear up the competition in a melee. That's just how I see them. We havent balanced them yet, so....
-
1.) You're probably looking at anywhere from 10-20 units garrisonable per ship. Not sure. 2.) You will not be able to move your units on deck. At least not in 0 A.D. Part 1. However, they will be there and archers can fire from the decks at enemy ships. 3.) Nah, in this period of time ships were very shallow draft and even a lot of times were pulled up onto a beach. I don't think we'll show this aspect though.
-
Not really. That's something we talked about, but what will happen in our game is that the farther the target is, the more inaccurate the arrows. Arrows will be very deadly.
-
Mildly amusing, I must admit, but be nice.
-
Actually, your source is incorrect. There's also a difference between Homosexuality, Pederasty, and Pedophilia. The first and third were against the law in most, if not all city-states. The 2nd is what is applicable to some cities and in some cases. It may or may not have been officially sanctioned. I suggest reading more about it at Roman Army Talk (google it ).

As far as modded cheats and stuff like that: We can't control what is modded into the game. That's up to you guys and other modding teams. But as far as what I, as the Art Dept Lead will allow be put into the game will be 100% original work, conceptualized and created by our staff. So, no Darth Vader cheat. No Starship Enterprise. No Godzilla. And no Hulk Hogan. @Alex, re: minotaur Very nice suggestion, m8! I think in all we'll have 10-12 cheat units. We'll also have a bunch of extra units in the editor for you guys to play with, mod, or use in your scenarios. Here are some cheat units on my short list. I will post this disclaimer: They are not finalized in the least and most of them haven't even been touched yet. Tyrannosaurus Rex (woohoo) Utahraptor (these guys ate Velociraptors for lunch) Challenger 2 Tank (Britain's main battle tank) UFO (flies around quickly, startling the puny humans) Ninja Woman (she is nimble, uses dual katana blades) Medusa (homage to Age of Mythology) Minotaur (homage to Age of Mythology) Space Shuttle Challenger OV-099 (rolls around on its giant crawler) Giant Ant (an homage to Red Alert:Counterstrike)

Well, "officially" TLA is only a mod of 0 A.D.

Persian cataphracts were among the first cavalry to actually crash into their enemies. Their heavy armour and sturdy mounts offered a great punch upon impact, but once the charge had been stopped they were at a disadvantage due to the sheer bulk and weight of their arms and armour. Charge is bonused first hit. As far as Triarius vs. Hoplite, we are making a game, first and foremost. We need to make these civs as different as possible within the framework we've worked up. Romans are known for their swordsmen, so their swordsmen will be bonused. Greeks are known for their Hoplites, so the Hoplites will be bonused. Having said that, the stats difference between a Hoplite and Triarius won't be insanely different. They'll still have the same role within the counter system.

There are no NPF in 0 A.D. Part 1 as planned. However, this may change once the art is all finished for the game and the artists have a bunch of time on their hands. I think it has less to do with the programming aspect than with the fact that it takes time away from finishing the game. However, I would count on "extras" being added, post game release, in subsequent gameplay patches. We hope to release little extra tidbits with each game patch as an incentive and reward for downloading the latest patch. This could conceivably include NPF. But don't dwell on that too much. We'll "do what we can". Can't do any more than that!

We use "soldier classes", so for instance, a Triarius and a Hoplite are both "Infantry Spearman" class. This means similar stats and bonuses (Infantry Spearmen are good vs. melee Cavalry). But when I mean "similar" stats, I mean that the Hoplite will most likely be the best Spearman in the game, with higher armour and higher attack. Consequently, the Hoplite will cost more and have a lower movement rate. Having said that, the Hoplite will still have the same bonus vs. cavalry as a Triarius and the stats difference will not be wildly different. Some standard units (units that aren't heroes or Super Units) will have wildly different stats and characteristics from their fellow classmates from other civs. For instance, the Persian Cataphract will have an immense charge bonus, but a very poor melee attack, making this unit nearly useless in a melee, but irresistible when performing a cavalry charge. So, there will be instances where civ differentiation will be stark, but most units will fit a class pattern.

What would "morale" do? You have to specify this in some way in the unit stats. If it means +10% attack or +15% speed, then yeah, some heroes do this as part of their aura.
