The Carolingian timeframe seems better to focus at (at least to me) when you pick the zenith of each faction (like 0 A.D. does it)(just like we pick the Viking Age for the Norse rather than also covering the centuries before it)1 point

I prefer slow development speed. If we suddenly get masses of contributors, it becomes very difficult for us to review those patches. With a steady growth, we can guide new contributors, and make them team members when they stick around and give good contributions. As it is now, there are enough changes between versions to give a "new" feel every time people have to update.1 point

I was thinking more along the line of a Player vassalization. If you capture their leader, they are forced to 'ally' with you, and give you tribute.1 point
