  2. Huh. I've just tested it again and its seems to be working; its never done that before. It looks great when enemy units suddenly slow down when reaching the pikes, resulting in bunching up of enemy units trying to make it through the pikes. However, since the aura seems to be circular, enemy units slow down even when running around pikemen; its there a way to make auras directional? Thanks for the helpful comments! @niektb: I was worried about the auras applying outside of formation, but a unit spacing of 0.3 never seems to happen outside of testudo formation out of all the tests I've tried with my brother, so it seems alright.

  3. The Carolingian timeframe seems better to focus at (at least to me) when you pick the zenith of each faction (like 0 A.D. does it)(just like we pick the Viking Age for the Norse rather than also covering the centuries before it)

  4. I prefer slow development speed. If we suddenly get masses of contributors, it becomes very difficult for us to review those patches. With a steady growth, we can guide new contributors, and make them team members when they stick around and give good contributions. As it is now, there are enough changes between versions to give a "new" feel every time people have to update.

  5. The formation process is actually: first move the formation center along the pre-calculated route, then let all units walk to their new formation position. But the biggest issue with the formations is that the pathfinder doesn't understand that formations have a size that's bigger than their obstruction. So if a formation walls along an obstacle (like along a shore), then the pathfinder keeps the formation center next to the shore, which causes half of the units trying to reach unreachable positions. If units can stay in their formation positions, calculating their next position is a rather simple calculation, and would be even faster than without formation, as the long-range calculation only needs to be done once for the formation. So the pathfinder should estimate the width of a formation, and see how it can avoid most obstacles for a certain route.
