  1. Bonjour Maxoen, ce post est absolument incompréhensible, tu ne devrais pas utiliser google traduction :)

Peux-tu modifier ton texte pour écrire en français, je pourrai traduire ensuite. Merci !

Hi Maxoen, this post is absolutely impossible to understand, you shouldn't use google translate :)

Could you edit your text to write in French, I can translate then. Thanks!

Indeed, we are using an old version of the forum (and the upgrade is planned), but as for many other systems than the game itself, we lack time for having everything up-to-date.

Anyway, the version 4 is still under development, so we're not going to upgrade now.

I can only recommend using another browser, because you'll experience many problems with IE on the Internet ;)

Thanks for finding a way to solve the problem, which may occur to other people in the future. Have fun playing 0A.D.!

  3. Thanks for this information about your unusual text size, that must be the actual root of your problems. I don't know if this is something we should fix or if there is something you can do, I'll discuss this with other devs.

(en realidad resulta que la falta de ese información fue el verdadero problema, por no ser perfecto tu inglés es bastante comprensible, pero comprobamos que tu IP era de España y pensamos que a lo mejor pudiéramos entendernos mejor así.)

(actually it seems that this lack of information was the real problem, even if your English isn't perfect it is rather understandable, but we saw that your IP was from Spain and we thought that, maybe, we would understand better each other)

  4. Custom settings are in "local.cfg" not user.cfg (that's used for settings the game changes). local.cfg might need to be created, see default.cfg for the location.

Normalmente, si tienes xres=0 y yres=0 en tu default.cfg (y nada en el local/user.cfg), el juego utilizará tu resolución habitual cuando lo abras. ¿Es lo que quieres conseguir?

Normally, if you have xres=0 and yres=0 in your default.cfg (and nothing in local/user.cfg), the game will use your usual resolution when you open it. Is this what you want to achieve?

  5. Hola tomoco, resulta un poco difícil entender tus problemas, pues si quieres no vaciles en explicarlo todo en español (que parece ser tu idioma).

Para resumir, lo que pasa es que cuando tú intentas pasar en fullscreen pierdes la resolución de pantalla que tenías antes, ¿me equivoco?

Hi tomoco, it's a bit difficult to understand your problems, so if you want don't hesitate to explain everything in Spanish (which seems to be your language).

Summing it up, what happens is that when you try to change to full screen, you loose the previous resolution, am I wrong?

  6. Hi Yorgos, thanks for these voices!

I have a doubt about the words you used, they seem to be modern Greek (especially επουλούμαι, I'm almost sure this is a modern conjugation). The idea would be to keep the ancient words, but in order to fit more "modern" factions such as Macedonians or Seleucids, we could choose to pronounce them in a modern way.

For instance, females in the game use a kind of modern pronunciation, rather different from the commonly accepted ancient one.

  7. Hi Gronvik, as you might already know, making a video game is something difficult and you'll definitely need help and luck to find people to manage realizing your idea. However, it's still possible to achieve it and you're right to give it a try.

By reading your post, I think you should consider gathering all your ideas/drafts and a robust game design document at some place on the Internet, to attract people able to help you. You absolutely need something to make them feel they really want to see the project finished, and unfortunately saying "it will be a great sequel to Caesar IV" is not enough!

I am personally rather curious about your project and I'd like to know more about this :) But I think it will be easier for you to put all your interesting ideas somewhere than to post it in every forum where someone asks you.

  8. Flavius: I think everyone here (at least me, you and GunCheloc) agrees on the pronunciation. However, some vowel sounds do not correspond to anything existing in English, due to the shift. This is the reason why 'ae', pronounced [ae], is very close to 'I' [aǝ].

To solve this Babel problem, I suggest you make remarks directly about the recordings, so I have a precise idea of possible mistakes!

And by the way, I just updated the voices in the first post. :)

  9. I'm no Latin expert, but 2 thing struck me here:

Wouldn't it make sense that "ae" is an diphthong?

The English pronunciation of the letters "i" an "e" are an aberration, because of the great vowel shift some centuries ago. Better pronounce them as in any Romance language I guess, as and [e].

Yes you're right, and being French I don't have this vowel problem :)

But Flavius had to use English words to explain what sounds he talked about. Can you confirm the recorded voices sound good to you?

EDIT: sorry, actually I dońt agree at all with Flavius on 'i', because I made a mistake in my English pronunciation!

And about 'ae' linguists tend to think it was actually not a dipthong.

  10. Can't listen to the voices so not criticizing you guys here, but here is proper Latin pronunciation in "Classical Latin" according to my Latin Teacher with a PHD in Roman culture.

v - pronounced like a w (So Flavius is pronunced Flawius)

    a - pronounced like "ah"

e - pronounced like the Fonz ("Eh!")

ae - pronounced like the word "I"

    u - pronnounced like a double O (So Flawioos)

i - pronounced like the long way (like the word "I")

ii - pronounced like the letter E (So Gladii is Glad-eey-eey)

    c - pronounced like a K

o - pronounced normally, just depends on the letter usage

y - pronounced like in the word "I" "So Lekythos is Lek - aye - thos)

    Thanks Flavius!

I use this pronunciation, so no problem!

I just disagree for 'y', because it's a letter that doesn't exist in Latin. Many Latin words taken for Greek have a 'y', therefore they are pronounced like the French 'u' (this sound doesn't exist in English, if I'm not mistaken). This is not a problem because there is no 'y' in the recorded voices :)

  11. Hello! As I said in this topic, I wanted to work on unit voices and remarked that current voices (created for Hellenes) use a modern pronunciation. However, I don't want to replace them, please read the other topic and give me input if you have some :)

In the meantime, I recorded voices. I used http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/Audio_Voice_List.

    1) I recorded voices using the current, modern pronunciation. Theses records may be useful because for the moment, for male voices, we just have 4 sentences recorded...

Update (20/05): They can be found here.

    2) I also recorded voices with ancient (commonly accepted) pronunciation.

Update (20/05): They can be found here.

    Please share your thoughts!

    Many thanks,

    Itms
