  1. Any hacky way to make the game at least somewhat playable though, even if the game is less balanced and runs out of room fast. I kind of find the prospect of fighting otherworldly enemies as the romans an interesting gameplay.

  2. Hello hello everybody! It's me, back again, from Alpha21 and a long overview series of 0AD Alpha22, to bring to you the next revolution in 0AD entertainment! Regular MP streams! (I hope...) I played about 6 months ago in Alpha21 and had a huge amount of fun in 0AD. But due to life stuff I had to drop it for sometime, but now I've finished all my current running youtube series, I thought I best get back into streaming, and with the teaser for Age of Empires 4 we got at Gamescom, I thought, why not, I should stream some 0AD to celebrate! So my first live stream on twitch for 0AD will be... today! Later this evening, probably around 6pm GMT. I may be a bit late (or early, hopefully early), whilst I sort out my OBS and streaming options. Should be good to go though! I'd love to see you guys hanging out in the chat, so I can reacquaint myself with the community and get some quality games going tonight. On the side, I'll be doing commentaries of the recorded games that I play, observe, or people send in for me to do commentaries on. Looking forward to it! https://www.twitch.tv/chaffcommandercoffey

  3. The rank of a soldier appears as a chevron on the unit portrait, and the unit itself will dawn more visually impressive armor each time its rank increases. Some players overlook that a unit's resource-gathering rates decrease as its rank increases (I don't completely understand the justification). Armor and attack increases are more intuitive. Part of me doesn't want to encourage garrisoning units, when they could otherwise be out on the map forcing the player to make decisions with them. This garrisoning tactic also doesn't give the opponent any chance to counter it, short of destroying the barracks where the units are being trained, and counterability is an important characteristic in games like this. Perhaps in the future some mod could introduce a mobile unit that either temporarily increases the ranks of the units around it, or slowly increments the experience of those units. This sort of unit would both keep more units active on the map and allow opponents to counter the play by "sniping" the aura-bearing unit.

  5. Play smart, and choose what buildings, and skills you need first to make your army strong, and than you can control the map first. Yes you can play relaxed if you have the control, and are prepared for an attack or if you want to attack first. Don't let them tame you,you are the wolf that can't be tamed I usually start with one cavalry scouting to my enemies baseline, and marking that path with guard towers {the one's with the dove} so I can keep any eye on them. I can see every move they make once they leave their base. While I am marking that path I will gather any treasure I come across so while my workers are gathering, chopping, andmining I will have more than enough resources to start building what I need to start a great economy, and train an army. I also make sure my farms and food producing is hidden away from where my enemy will attack first, and if I need to garrison my workers I will. I will make sure I produce a lot of food so I can use it as my currency to purchase what I need at the market to advance my culture fast. I will also set up a trader so I can get even more resources. As far as skills go when choosing to start I will decided if my army is going to be more range or more melee, and if I decide to have a lot of range I will start with the weapon skills over the armour. Once you get the market going you will have most the skills fast. If I am in a area where there is a big river with a lot of fish I will build a dock asap, and use it for my drop off sight while getting massive food. So many ways where you can relax and build a big empire while your enemy is trying to rush you.

  6. What if we make the movement speed of heroes much slower, that way they can't raid very efficiently, but are still good in combat

  7. @macemen For games like 0 ad my personal preference is more of a relaxed, build right to the last age kind of gameplay. For rushing and extreme micro, I love games like battle realms! Battle realms was a great quick game with in depth micro and abilities If you like rushing and more interesting micro, then I would highly recommend battle realms, I think you can get it on gog.

  8. I guess it's crashing because you don't have the _default.xml map, that atlas loads by default.
