Traits

Traits are random characteristics for individual soldiers. For example Soldier x is a swordsman and has the trait 'strength' so his attack power is stronger then normal. Or maybe he is 'fast' so his attack speed and movement is faster. Other traits could be 'quick learner' or 'poucher'. Maybe rare traits could give large advantages eg 'Heroic', 'Tactical Genius', 'Strength of an Boar'

Trait could be random when you first create the unit or Traits could be given to unit that are particulary effective.

The idea is to have variety in one type of unit which would also be helped of there was a random name generator :)

The main negative effect of randomization of statistics would be this: a "lucky" player could end up with a series of strong or well-hitpointed units, while a more unfortunate opponent would end up with increased values in speed or other lesser statistics. Perhaps if there could be percentage limits on it, it might work. But for random maps, it could make units of too unreliable or unpredictable strength for fair play for all players.

I think it'd be a really cool idea, though, if it could be implemented. Keep the ideas coming, Stevo. We love to see new people with new ideas to add into the game!

When it comes to units with titles, remember that you'll have actual Hero units to build! :)

Maybe some form of general slider could do this.

You can set the slider (located somewhere in the screen) from 'Fast' to 'Good'. When set to fast, units will output faster, but perform slightly worse than units built with the slider on 'Good'.

Maybe the amount of time you can change the slider can be regulated by points (when starting a game you get 100 and can use them at will).

or, you could use that to your advantage by making a worse player have a handicap so that that player would get more strong units instead of speedy units to even up the game

your post had something to do with something i have been thinking about. what if in some point of the game you are given the choice to chose between light soldiers or heavy soldiers. If you choose light armor your units will be faster and be able to attack quiker this could suport your strat very wellacording to what your aponet is using.the defect to light armor would be your armor would be low so they get killed faster and they arent as powerfullwhen they are attacking.and the exact opisite for heavy units.anyway its just an idea to ad more variety to the gameplay and some strategic depth.yall can think about this alot more than I did to make it better .also i kinda got this idea from The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivian .

:):P:D
