Whales and Elephants

Can someone explain how to

1. capture and herd elephants

2. hunt whales?

I've tried all sorts of things, none work.

You can't currently capture or herd elephants; you can only collect food from them. I think with fishing ships you can collect food from whales, but I am not sure how difficult that is considering they move a lot.

Haven't been able to hunt whales, even with manned ships.

Fishing boats are generally not strong or fast enough to kill whales (or you may need a complete fleet of fishing boats).

But war ships are normally strong enough, but you still need a fishing boat afterwards to collect the food. Manning the war ships doesn't make a difference though, as the auto-arrows won't target the neutral whale. And there's also the issue with the infinite-chase bug, where the ship will stop to aim, and the whale will have moved out-of-range by the time the shot can be fired.

So all-in-all it's generally not worth to hunt whales for the moment.

Sigh. That would be the bug that says five cavalry have to (and will) chase a single giraffe all the way across the map....

I tried herding animals to my safe side of territory but so far I tried and did very well with boars and lions. Though I sacrifice women. If the behavior of elephants tend to fight back as in the case of boars and lions and will chase the unit who whipped them then you can herd it on your or close to desired spot. I am certain that herding bigger animals are not hard but just need patience.
