Phalanx
I'm trying to come up with a channel cover, and possibly eventually, a channel intro, but I have a distinct lack of creative talent. Does any Blender user or artsy person have any advice to make this better as a channel cover?

Lion.Kanzen
I can help you with art... After all I was the creator of 0A.D Seleucid anchor. I'm 2D artist.
GunChleoc
The first one is better - the background in the second one is very noisy. You could make the background better by lowering contrast/satturation/lightness. Just play with the settings and see what happens.
Phalanx
Okay! Is there any possible particle or other effects I should use in the background to make it fancy? Or just a background texture?

Lion.Kanzen
Ok first make a concept , keeping in mind this: "Less is more" is the basic concept of design. think what is you want? what is that define you and your channel?

It is a gaming channel, mostly on historical games, but a few sci-fi and others. What I'm looking for is something dramatic, but yeah, I guess less is more.... I'll fiddle around a bit.. Lion.Kanzen
Ok, I'm subscribed to a lot of that, the best are the logo is simply without effects ( a gradient) but isn't great thing) for me is the best you can have a example. But the voice sometimes is annoying. The image in presentation is great. Spirit of Law have veri quality content but poor image or wrong... Specially with their logo. The editing is fine. Not perfect. his voice is very perfect. Unlike Sergiu. And ZeroEmpires is same Sergiu great image but the voice... But the content is better than Sergiu I mean, is very expressive as speaker. in my own language Mayorcette is good with many of those attributes. But is missing his own concept, now play anything....
Phalanx
Okay! Simplicity. Any tips for a simple, but impressive lighting or background? Edited March 24, 2016 by SeleucidKing

Left it in green texture, though...
Phalanx
I fixed the background colouring, but now that border looks weird...
Lion.Kanzen
Remove the effects, is about using the logo/ Avatar more simple, like your avatar. Less is more

Less is more so, remove the metal texture? Make it a solid colour? I think a texture would give it more depth... other than that, there are no effects on it. Phalanx
I rotated the Seleucid logo a tad to make it seem 3d, because the name being 3d, and the logo not, looked a tad off.... Phalanx
Without the metal texture:
Lion.Kanzen
Just now, SeleucidKing said: so, remove the metal texture? Make it a solid colour? I think a texture would give it more depth... other than that, there are no effects on it. Give it more complex to the eye... Is more easy start to avoid effects, and get it one by one. I show you how... i started, with simple symbol made by myself. And I added effect in this is the final result.
Phalanx
So, I should try to texture the gray space in the logo? Right now it is just empty space, and the only effect is on the green parts of the picture.
Lion.Kanzen
Try to imitate the art made by total war, the avatar that you are using was made by that concept be simple but attractive( minimalistic) I will try to found materials to help you.

Lion.Kanzen
With color are better....but... to give more realist effect use scratch effects or splatters effects. this better way and have a concept, a used, old, dirty, ancient... History.
Phalanx
okay, scratches.... Same for the text? I went ahead and added a better border, and did the same background for the text as I did for the logo. Or should the text be different> Gosh. I'm hopeless at this
Lion.Kanzen
Keep Hellenistic concept, you need absorb art, see amphorae, Hellenistic art, shields. Is hard to explain easily and quick. when I created the Mauryan shields I used the mostly symbols, I was inspired by Indian art by that time, specially in coins and the art by others. Phalanx
Okay. whew, So this is what I have now. And you are suggesting that I try to find a more ancient/greek theme for the textures, instead of straight up metal? A more organic feel?
