They could serve as a means to implement formations (same system as in the cossacks games). It also give a real addition in terms of immersion in the battles. I think the greek musicians could use the double flute: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aulos Here is an example of roman battle standards: I really think it would benefit the game, if it's feasible.
