connloyalist
Hi All,I have been playing 0AD on and off for a while now (it's addictive), and have been lurking here for a while. This is my first post.I was wondering... you can garrison units in defensive towers to increase the number of arrows fired from the tower. But do those garrisoned units need to be ranged units? Or to put it differently, if I garrison a melee unit in a tower, will that have the same effect as a ranged unit with respect to arrows fired?Regards, Christine
Peregriino
Yes, any units incrised arrows fired.
connloyalist
Yes, any units incrised arrows fired.I assume that only applies to fighting units? If it is in fact all units then it might be useful to garrison women in defensive towers.Regards, Christine

So that answers my question.
sanderd17
Read the tooltips (hold your mouse over the shield icon), then you see how many arrows a tower fires. It's updated when you garrison soldiers, or when you research techs. Edited December 5, 2014 by feneur expanded the "hoover" into "hold your mouse over", hope that's ok

The classes list here do not work like other lists. Edited December 5, 2014 by wowgetoffyourcellphone
Peregriino
Sorry, I was not precise.Units, your read soldiers.
sanderd17
It was meant as it's in the template. Ranged or Infantry. But just read the tooltips and find out (I hope I implemented those tooltips for some purpose).

Would make sense to have only ranged soldiers counting to arrow output.Atm ranged cav does increase arrow rate (fortress), but melee cav does not, while melee inf does. Should be changed:<GarrisonArrowClasses>Ranged</GarrisonArrowClasses> Edited December 6, 2014 by zzippy
connloyalist
To remove all doubt, I just did a sandbox to test this (on Alpha 17). Adding ranged or melee infantry makes no difference, you get 1 extra arrow every 2 seconds for each infantry garrisoned in the tower. If you add the "sentries" and "crenelations" tech, plus the maximum of 5 garrisoned infantry gives a maximum of 9 arrows every 2 seconds. However, it seems to me that logically only ranged infantry ought to add arrows.Perhaps a way could be devised to have non-ranged units (possibly including females) be helpful to the effort if they are garrisoned in a tower together with ranged units. I am thinking something along the lines of logistics inside a tower, making sure of a steady supply of arrows. Something like that. Each non-ranged unit might reduce cycle time (the 2 seconds) by 10%? But still with a max of 5 units in the tower of course (the tower is only so big).Regards, Christine
greenknight32
Bows and arrows could have been stored in the towers, so that anyone could use them. I don't know that it was ever done, but it's not totally illogical.
