Thanks! Now that's interesting, is that a netbook? The AMD C series is apparently CPU with integrated GPU, so I think concerns of performance are valid, integrated Intel graphics for instance tends to perform relatively poorly (and worse, has buggy drivers). I would still suspect drivers or overheating (especially with it causing shut down), but you could test both by trying other strenuous 3D games on the same hardware on Linux.

The C-50 is one of AMD's system on a chip units - CPU and GPU on the same die, what they're now calling an APU. They tend to be better at 3D graphics than Intel's integrated graphics.

It's a low-powered one, though. Reviews I found describe its performance as netbook-level. Some of AMD's newer APUs are quite powerful, but the C-50 isn't one of those.

As the CPU and GPU are on the same chip, the temperatures would be much the same. Using conky, I find the CPU temperature doesnt get above about 65 degrees

Is that while playing the game, or idle? For reference the C-50 thermal maximum is 90C (reference).

  • 4 months later...

I now have the updated version of my old notebook, and have now got the 12.10 distro of Xubuntu instead of the 11.10 that i had on the old one, I have installed 0AD, and it works fine, just a bit laggy (but thats due to lack of proscessing power in my computer not the game). Thoroughly enjoying the game, loving the graphics, and its providing me with more of a challenge than Rise of Rome did. Thanks to everyone that helped with this :)

Sorry, did have Xubuntu 12.04, not 11.10
