Wildfire Games is switching from a closed development process to open source, making the game's code available as GPL and the art content available as CC-BY-SA. People are encouraged to reuse and learn from and improve our work. We are not releasing a playable game, but we want to show what we have achieved and make it easier for more people to get involved in bringing it closer to completion.Check out our open source page for more details and info on how you can contribute.Questions? Mythos_Ruler Posted July 13, 2009 Report Share Posted July 13, 2009 Open Source developers (people who download the source of the game and code with it) who are not actually part of the Wildfire Games development team will submit patches to us. We'll evaluate them, then add the patches to the game if they are stable and helpful. We even have a task manager system called "Trac" that twe've opened to the public with over a hundred "tickets" (tasks) that Open Sourcers can immediately begin working on if they so wish.We fully intend to release a completed, full-featured game. Going Open Source is a step that could help us achieve the goal of delivering an enjoyable video game into the hands of our long-suffering fan base. Ykkrosh Posted July 13, 2009 Report Share Posted July 13, 2009 Currently the game isn't really suitable for packaging for users - there isn't much of a playable game, and the code isn't particularly clean or stable or well-tested, and the idea is primarily to make it available for developers who can compile and debug it themselves.
