  1. This is a little off topic, but it was brought to mind as I read this thread-

The US should seriously consider using metric.

When I saw 1,80 meters, it took me a second to remember that was how all of Europe did decimals. And plus, metric makes so much more sense.

    OK, now on topic:

Zezar, each civ will have many more units than just that (er, at least the playable ones will). There will be scouts, archers, standard-bearers, and emissaries (they were called something else) and more.

Adam and Elf would know better.

  2. Never read it, but another weird book that I just thought off, even thought it is off topic... oh shoot, I forgot the name.

It's about someone in the 2D world and they visit the 3D world and the 1D world and tell their experiences. It's very interesting. Maybe someone knows what I'm talking about.

  3. BTW, as I thought about this in bed last night, I came upon a realization... not a great one, just one that clears some things up. Galileo didn't fight the system as in nature. He did actively go against the Church though.

The church in the middle ages was pretty goofed up. Just about the only good idea they had was tithing. I think that taking care of the poor should be the people's job more than the governments.

  4. Wow, a scene-by-scene analysis of Bowling for Columbine... but I might as well watch the movie to see it for myself. But if all that stuff is true, I'm sure the movie is pretty biased. I'll watch it sometime.

    Anyways, interesting site.

I just studied Feudal Japan not a month ago... but we didn't learn anythign about swords.

  5. When saying the system, I mean nature (secular) or God's plan (religious). I'm not sure exactly what you mean by Jesus fighting the system. If you mean, the Roman Empire, he really didn't put emphasis on fighting government, even corrupt government. Jesus did say when asked about taxes (I believe) "Give unto to Cesaer what is Cesaer's and give unto God what is God's". This quote applies more to obeying lawful authority, rather than fighting it. If you mean fighting the old Religion (Judaism) which I doubt you do, but if you do, I don't think that would apply either. Jesus celebrated all of the Jewish calendar feasts with proper reverence. The last supper took place on passover. Their are some times that it appears he didn't obey Jewish law, but they aren't many. The only example I can think of is his apostles picking grain in a field to eat on the Sabbath.

As for Galileo, you have a good arguement, I don't know much about the subject, but I believe that the Copernican model was rejected by the Church and they arrested or excommunicated him or something. I'd have to look into it more to argue the point.

  6. Just a note: I thought the Delian League contained both Athens and Sparta, and was Greece's unification when Alexander the Great tried to conquer them, but maybe I'm wrong.

People of Hellas: you know of the situation at hand. Athens and Sparta gather their allies for the upcoming war. Emissaries from both have been sent to my court. They remain here still because I have not given them answer to whose side our city will fight with. You know that our long history has remained with Sparta. They have been our friend for many ages. But also you know our ties with Athens. Their new form of government lets the people rule the people. A future with them would look very promising. But if we are to take a side, we must deny our longtime friend and ally, Sparta. In order to be decided who our city will side with, I have ordered that every man and woman of age in the city cast ballot. I will let the people decide whom our future lies with. If you want to side with a new future, Athens is there. If you want to side with our powerful longtime friends, Sparta is there. You the people should decide what we should do.

OK tried to keep it short, which it isn't, but oh well :P!

Also I'd expect that some people would prefer not to take sides, as taking the winning side would mean riches, but the losing side would mean death. If I wasn't so nice, I'd pick Sparta on the basis of them having a much larger and well trained army.

  7. When you look at the differences between men and women you can basically gather some ideas about how we were made. First of all, women give birth and nurse. You'd think that logically they would be the ones that take care of the children. Men are built bigger and are more aggressive (for the most part). You'd think that they would be the one's fighting.

Now I have nothing against women working or anything, but I think their first duty is to take care of the children (which that's what my Mom does, so that really affects my opinion). I think Men should be the ones bringing in money for the family, and doing the fighting if need be. Now with all this technology, a women could be able to do fighting in war, but people haven't changed since it was neccessary for men to fight (ie until just a little while ago).

and if someone says that women fought back then, oh please... It was 99 percent men.

So anyways, changing the roles of men and women is just fighting the system, that's the way it is.

I really don't have anything against women, I just don't think their role is in the military. But I think they can take jobs if they're still able to raise the kids properly.

I have my views on men too, but I'll save that for another time. :P
