and you can still post your questions regarding game design right in here - since this is my 'official answer the fans' week!!
(i'll answer as far as my NDA or the Tyr... err Project Lead allows )

How'd you Europeans get the ROTK DVD so quick? Me and my mom aren't expecting it till next week......
hmmm - must be that we live on the 'good' side of the pond
but seriously - i've endured the 4 hour long EE last night (prior to our GD meeting) and i'm still ambivalent about RotK. Atleast it isn't as rushed and butchered as the theatrical version and it beautifully adds to the characters but there are still some unnecessary deviations from the book (IMO worse than in the theatrical version - e.g. Saruman's fireball spell, the skull-avalanche in the 'city' of the dead ...) that still leave me undecided. one thing though - the confrontation between the Witch-king and Gandalf (although changed from the book) is a welcome addition - and i wonder why they left that out initially ...
still - i'd definately recommend this to to everyone who's a fan of the series.

we shall see ...

my spousal overunit (aka the ultimate authority)
-
very true - i'll head out to my trustworthy dvd store and buy it ... in say ~ 2 hours ... and then i'll watch it tonight
hope my mood is and not afterwards .... (shudders at the thought of that fireball-throwing Saruman at the top of Orthanc - as seen in the EE previews)
-
rofl ... ok i'll tell him well - he'll be at my place tomorrow evening watching RotK SEE - but after that it's GD meeting time ... so no boardgame
-
@mikael
will try once i can coax my b-i-l (brother in law) to a match

@mikael - i'm sure you'll like it as well - it requires some effort first if you are not really familiar with strategic board games (like me - who comes from a solely digital gaming background) but it's not too difficult to get into.
the design is excellent - and the game mechanics look pretty solid. i especially like the details that were put into it like 'activating' the Free Peoples and gear them towards war - as well as the 'Corruption' meter of the Fellowship. Those are nice little touches that make this game unique against e.g. the LotR Risk 'Mod'
also the playboard is HUGE! - good thing we do have a large table in our 'dining room' or else we'd have to play that on the floor !
you might check out the game instructions that can be found at the site that Veldrin posted a few posts above (in the download section) that will give you a nice overview on how it's played.

yep - atleast for Nexus' bank account
-
it has arrived last friday - and so on saturday (instead of doing some work for TLA) i couldn't restrain myself and had to open it (hey atleast i bought it myself for xmas )
whoa ... what a flurry of figures and stuff - luckily no figure was missing - i instantly counted all of them - it seems i do have one regular Mordor Orc too many and one Southron regular Archer too few ... but i guess this won't hurt the gameplay
now i'll have to wade thru the manual and then try my first match against my brother-in-law
-
ahem - HoI isnt turn based - it's real time (meaning the clock is ticking permanently) - but its on another scale than your typical RTS
-
Mae govannen, Silrenil!
I hope you'll like your stay at WFG - and i'd like to encourage you to post any concept drawings you might have regarding costumes and clothing.

you could also check out Hearts of Iron 2 at http://www.paradoxplaza.com ... it is no freeware title though - but you won't get any better WW2 game on a global scale than this 8)
-
oh yes ... Randy - please include our Administrative Dark Lord of the Boards in your poll!

Black Númenóreans
-
@Yiuel - thats only because they had to stick to the 'script' - a similiar trait that plagues many great movie-villains
-
i must clearly vote for the old 'Iron Crowned' one - when just one Valar can cause that much upheaval and chaos, keeps the other Valar on their secluded continent and can even introduce the 'Morgoth-Element' into the very soil of Arda (cf. HoME vol. 10) then the one Dark Lord to rule them all must clearly be Morgoth Bauglir!
and i mean - Sauron lost a confrontation against a GIRL! How's that for your business reputation?
And a honorary mention should go to our Dark Lord of the Forums - although it seems he's withdrawn a bit lately from the eyes of the Wise - maybe he's a-plotting somewhere in the shadowy regions of the East!
