  1. Well, to answer you I do not think it is out place to say Tolkien got it wrong (the simple fact is men did not take over until the 2nd/3rd age. But I have no question that elves were diminishing in numbers as men were increasing, this is apparant in the books. Look at Lord of the Rings, true there is a lot of elves, but the world was dominated by men. And I have no doubt eventually elves ceased to live in ME altogether sometime in the 4th age.

However, the elves would not really stop reproducing (or I don't understand what you meant) because think of the following

    Finwe

    Fingolfin (brother of Finarfin)

    Turgon

    Idril

    Earendil

    Elrond

    Arwen

Remember, Galadriel (daughter of Finarfin) is still around in Elrond's time, which actually happens to be near the end of the reign of elves. Now, assume Arwen married another elf (and assume Sauron was not around threatening the existance of Middle Earth) they would have a child, but all along Elrond and Arwen would remain there. Just like Galadriel is still around, they will remain around while the elven race continues to have new children being born.

Yes, arrows and blades kill elves, but you have to remember that elves continue to be born. Elves being born only have to replace elves who die to battle or accidents, while humans being born need to replace men who died it battle, disease, old age or accidents.

And understand that the family line above is of a house which was deep in the war against Morgoth and Sauron, as such many of the elves died. But think of Nandor, Laiquendi, Sindar and other elves who were not that deeply involved with the war, all the parents are still there... look at your family tree, now imagine if the last 7 generations were all (minus 3 or 4) still alive today. That to me is more how elven reproduction works.

Of course, Halo movie right now is more of a project than a movie. On one hand MS already invested a million into the script, on the other it hasn't even been picked up by a studio yet. The movie Alexander from last year was actually in development for almost 15 years, so just because there's plans for a Halo movie and some money has been put into it yet, it doesn't mean it will happen (but I'm guessing, if a studio picked up Doom, someone's bound to pick up Halo).

  3. @pink:

What similar games are you talking about?

Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Escape from Butcher Bay, TimeSplitters 2, Battlefield 2, Area-51, Call of Duty, Far Cry, Star Wars: Battlefront, SWAT 4, Unreal Tournament 2004...?

I've played all of those, except for Area 51 and Butchet Bay. And I can say Halo 2 is the best there, tied with Half Life 2.

If you ask me which was better between Halo 2 and Half Life 2, I would have to say the single player in Half Life 2 was better. Between Halo 2 multiplayer and CS:S I would not be able to pick out a winner.

I can admit that Half Life 2 is better than Halo 2, combined with CS:S. But the fact is, Halo 2 is on Xbox and Half Life 2 is on PC.

And if you ask me which universe or IP is better, I'll say Halo handsdown.

  4. Yep... everything is ordered and on the way so there's no turning back. I'm short two teams as of now, which hurts but doesn't kill Haloism. Each team is paying 120 between all it's members, so two teams not showing up technically costs me 240 dollars (but due to some cutting of costs and the selling of Bawls) I think it will only cost me about 100 dollars.

And who knows, maybe I'll get some late teams (though technically, no team is officially ready as either they are missing a name, a chaperone or one member...) Hopefully everything will resolve itself this coming week.

  5. Mythos, I agree with everything you said...

5 x 10^30 estimated microscopic life on earth, that we know of now. If humans can not identify all microscopic life on our planet can you not see that maybe, just maybe, there was a tiny little flaw in intelligence gathering, that 1 little microscopic lifeform went unnoticed by the invaders?

Also, the movie hints that in all the complexity of life and the univervse, maybe this error on the side of the aliens was preordained. Maybe it was divine, it was meant to happen.

And things are not always explained in real life, maybe humanity would have never figured out why they died (or maybe not for decades to come). After all, life is full of mysteries... full of questions that go unanswered.

I was argueing with my uncle, he was claiming that the aliens would not simply attack us. That they would try to communicate and interact, because it would be more beneficial. I of course was claiming that being an alien race, light years away from our planet there is no correlation between our train of thought and theirs. Why do we assume we can put ourselves in their shoes and imagine what we would do? That doesn't work from human to human! Maybe they live to slaughter, their existance is not defined by religious beliefs or bettering of society... Heck, some humans don't live by the same principles as you and I.
