  1. A further improvement could be some popup "unstickable" stickies that explain what a link is intended for, or someting like that.

    Example:

    Link: The WFG Community

Popup: Here is were everyone should go at least once, when he logs in to the forums!

But maybe this is too much, or too confusing (relying on a 33.6 bps line, i'm one of the "light site" promoters :) )

  2. Well, i think a direct link to the Wfg community, placed were you can't ignore it (e.g. on top of all others) can be a solution.

Another one can be a estension of the "links directory" to comprehend WFG community even in the 0AD and TLA forums i try to make a sort of example here, for istance from the Green Dragon you should be able to see this URL chain:

Wfg Community Forums-> TLA Community Forums -> The Last Alliance->The Green Dragon.

If something is easily accessible, it should be prolly more frequented, imho.

  3. Indeed, probably the most "Latin" country in Europe ... even over Italy, in my high opinion.

Many thinkers of the Enlightment period were inspired by the Romans and our present system descends directly from them.

Oh, well, this depends: do you have any example for us to consider?

  4. Well, because they are wraiths and are bound to the One Ring, they won't be able to "die" I think. Maybe they will be reïncarnated with zero experience and after a short period of penalty time (to give their spirits time to travel back to their master).

Caedus, you're wrong on this: the Witch King was actually killed by Eowyn (with a little help from her friend Merry :brow: )

So Nazguls can be killed, but not by common weapons welded by common people.

  5. To illustrate rohirwine's point, if you take a look at Europe's map you'll notice that the only lands where Latin survived were those where the Goths established their kingdoms.

Well, not to stress that point too much, Sukkit.

In fact even the Franks, after a brief period of social conflict, got "romanized", and thus France is now a land with a strong "latin" heritage. Moreover, Visigots had a different history from Goths, even if they were closely related.

Also in the nowadays land of Romania there is a neolatin language, even if that land experienced a different history. There are too many factors involved in what has happened after the fall of some romano-barbaric kingdoms. My point was only to underline that we should not look at the fall of the Western Roman Empire as it had necessarily been a catastroph for the contemporary populations. We should not make the mistake to read the past with modern criteria or, even worse, morality.

  6. Yelmo de Elfo? lol

Also in the italian translation there were changes. Like Mirkwood becoming something like Black Wood (Bosco Atro) and other funny translations. The fact is that the first translator of LotR had a precise vision and purpose in translating the book and followed that one sometimes without much respect for the opera (even if the final outcome is not outrageous).

From the firts italian edition till the last one (2003) as istance, the editor decided to omit JRRT foreword, only because that one collided with his own and his personal analysis of the books (not without political connotations).

The fact is that translating a text is never a "neutral" operation, if i don't recall it wrong, in Spain it is said that "translating is always a little bit betraying" (translater=tradidor?).

  7. Moreover, many "barbarian tribes" were actually welcomed into the empire lands as a valuable military force against other invaders.

"Roman" citizens frequently viewed them with favour, an example is the strong Goth reign founded in Italy. The link with "italian" society was so strong that the forces of Bisantium were bleeded to exhaustion before they could win the Gothic resistance (it took more than 20 years, and after that the Eastern Empire was so weakened that it's reconquering of the Western Part was put to an end). This cannot be explained without imagining a strong Goth-Latin bond. Put in simply words, the population of Italy was strongly loyal to it's Gothic rulers.

  8. I just want to point out that the downfall of nations is rarely due only to a military one or to corruption. Those are only the surface reasons: th eproblem is if a nation satisfies his society needs (social and economic security and so on). A tipical example is the Roman Empire (Western and later Eastern). Their downfall began centuries befor their actual final crisis, and that was due to an economic and social crisis beyond any repair. I won't enter in detail here (no desire to write an essay), but one thing for sure is that the Western Roman Empire citizens did't percieve the final "disaster" as such, we think of the fall of that empire as a disaster, only because in the Medieval and Reinassance period Scholars used to refer at the High Middle Ages as a obscure and barbaric period.

  9. The problem with 'friendly fire' is that it makes archers almost useless. As soon as the hand-to-hand combat starts, the player would have to make sure they don't shoot.

I propose that archers have two fire modes instead: direct and parabollic. Direct fire would be the standard option, and it wouldn't cause damage to friendly units because the archer would aim for individual targets (he could still miss the target, but wouldn't hurt friendly units, for gameplay reasons). Then, parabollic would be a special mode, it would grant the archer much more range, and perhaps a small attack bonus, but it could harm friendly units, as the archer wouldn't choose an individual target but aim for a general area. Maybe this parabollic shot would be available only for archer formations.

    What do you think?

Hmm, i feel that we should discuss in the design department with all others...

Anyway, my 2 cents: no bonus and less precision for parabolic fire.

And yes: parabolic fire should be avaible only to bows.
